Marcus rolled his eyes and pulled away from Aiden. “I know it’s unexpected but at the same time, isn’t it kind of expected? I mean, all of the fights with him and being so competitive with each other. I already knew there had to be a reason for all of it. Now I know. And besides, now the fourth of us can hang out and it won’t be weird. Right?”

“Are you pulling the whole kids in the sandbox picking on each other thing right now?” he asked, arching an eyebrow. “It’s just weird. BUt... fuck, whatever. As long as you don’t bitch about me hanging out with Quinn anymore,” he said with a nod. “Hopefully,” he said, frowning. Thinking it’d still be odd to see Marcus and Charlie dating.

It was supremely awkward to be talking to Aiden about Marcus, but if Aiden wasn’t scared off by any of the other bits of awkwardness, Declan supposed this one wouldn’t hurt, either. “Did it take you a long time to get over the first guy you fell in love with, or am I just special because… You know.“ Because Marcus would be the last one. He knew that. Falling in love was too much of a risk.

“Wait, what?” Declan drew back in surprise. He’d been sure they were on the same page; was it possible that he’d just thrown that one at Aiden with absolutely no context? Shit. “I thought… I mean, you’re… hugging me, and being nice to me, and… Wasn’t that the whole point?”

Marcus was such an odd subject to talk about with Declan, especially after he had learned about this whole relationship he’d had with Declan. “Ugh... yeah, sort of,” he said with a small shrug. “It was a long time ago and I was younger and it was just..,” Aiden paused. “Yeah, I was a mess and it was horrible,” he smiled softly.

“Yeah, no, that’s not what this is about,” he said, frowning. “I mean, I’m totally down for sex again at another time. But not when you’re sad or anything like this,” Aiden said, furrowing his brows. “Yeah, I’m being nice,” he said. “Because I like being nice and I like you,”

“It’s complicated,” Marcus said quickly, feeling like he had to explain and defend his relationship. “I kind of think maybe the reason we always fought and got on each other nerves was because this was meant to happen. And, to be honest, I could really use my best friend because it’s not…when I say complicated I mean things are really complicated. I could use some advice.” Hearing Aiden say they were friends again, that he wanted to be friends again made Marcus grin from ear to ear. He nodded, reaching forward and wrapping Aiden up in a tight hug. “Friends.”

“Yeah well... I’m still going to give you shit for it. Because for all these years you’re like, watch out for Quinn and then now you’re dating Charlie,” he pointed out, with a small smirk on his lips. Aiden may have still been a little salty about that. But he hugged his friend back anyway and gave him a squeeze. “Good,” he said with a nod. “I missed you,”

Quinn paused, turning to look at Aiden, and shook his head. “You know not everything is about Quidditch and Declan Bouchard. And also Aiden, my brother is probably going to be in your life for a little while given that he’s tied to me, your bestfriend, and current fling.”he huffed out, tired by Aiden’s awkward behaviour of Charlie. “One day you’ll have to treat him like he’s part of the group.”

Aiden blinked, brows furrowed and thoroughly confused. “What are you talking about? And I don’t have anything against Charlie. That was Marcus remember? Charlie and I just had a Quidditch rivalry. So... yeah. I don’t know what that was about,”

“I know,” Declan said softly. He stiffened as Aiden hugged him, but after a moment, he relaxed, resting his forehead on Aiden’s shoulder. “I’m always gonna care what he thinks. I love–I loved him. It’s always gonna bloody be him. Fuck.” He could see it now: married to Aurelia, too scared of being found out to actually meet somebody he could love, still stuck on the boy he loved when he was fifteen. He was pathetic.

Aiden was warm, and Declan stayed in his arms for as long as he could, sighing at the touch. But this wasn’t a good idea, and he knew it. “Aiden, I… I can’t sleep with you again. You know that, right?” Because why else would Aiden be nice to him? Why else would Aiden try to comfort him like this?

Aiden was glad that Declan didn’t resist the hug; he had a strong feeling that he would. “Yeah, he was your first love right? That’s...,” he began but stopped. He didn’t really know. Aiden had never really been in love before. Crushes, yes, but not love. “It’s hard to get over your first love,” he said simply, with a small shrug.

“What?” Aiden asked, frowning. Why did he even ask about sleeping with him? He had just been teasing him before. “That’s not... what does that have to do with anything?” he asked, keeping Declan in his arms but looking at him curiously.

“What, you’ve got a thing for virgins?” Declan tried to smile, but it was a half-hearted, bitter thing. “Hate to break it to you, but…” He gestured toward himself. “That ship sailed a long bloody time ago.” He flinched when Aiden touched his arm, but he didn’t have the energy to fight Aiden about this, so he let Aiden touch him. “Everyone already knows what changed about me,” he said. “My parents were both dead. Gabe… he was…” He bit his lip; he didn’t want to talk about Gabe. “What am I supposed to say if someone asks, that being a Coventry made me… you know, like blokes? I think Marcus’d kill me.”

“Oh c’mon. That’s not what I meant. “The whole innocent thing,” he said. He was joking mostly. Aiden looked around, glad that no one was around because he pulled Declan into a hug. “There were so many things that were different there okay? What’s to say that wasn’t one too?” he asked, softly. Obviously it wasn’t, but other people wouldn’t know that. “Since when do you care what Marcus thinks anyway. I’m sure he wouldn’t be that pissed off. I mean, he’s gay too. So it’s technically not wrong or anything,”

“I’m not so sure I share the same sentiment.”he whispered honestly, there was something oddly secure with how the other world was, and this world aligned somethings that felt off. One being that in the other world Quinn was a Quidditch Captain, fearless, and very confident. “Anyway Aiden, I should probably go find Charlie.”

“Really?” Aiden asked, furrowing his brows as he looked at Quinn. The other world was pretty shitty in his opinion. Well... maybe not that bad for other people. But for him it was bad. “Yeah, he was... dead there so. Yeah he probably needs to talk,”

“I want nothing more than to get rid of this tension between us. It’s weird not being able to talk to you and see you. I really miss you. And I think Charlie might be a little sick of me too. So yeah, I want to the weirdness to be over. I’m sorry for being a twat about it all.”

“Yeah it sucks. I hate it. And I miss you,” he said with a soft sigh. “Yeah well. Charlie,” he mumbled, rolling his eyes. Aiden was still a little annoyed about that honestly. After all the shit he’d gotten from Marcus about being friends with Quinn because of Charlie and now they were dating. “Yeah, I’m sorry too. Friends again?”

“There was some ups to the very dramatic downs.”he suggested, his eyes blinking, as he went back to the moment with the boy on the Quidditch field. “It makes me wonder though a lot about… this worlds …this reality.”

Aiden cocked his head to the side and frowned. “Yeah I guess it was. I was kind of... well, very depressed,” he said with a slight pout. “What about this reality?” Aiden asked with a frown. “I mean, I’m glad things are back to normal,”

“You know what happened. I know what happened. Do we really have to talk about it?” Declan stuck his hands in his pockets and shrugged. “They’re gonna know, now. Everybody’s gonna know.” It wasn’t just that. There were a whole lot of feelings he wasn’t quite sure how to grapple with, but that was the closest one he could grab, and it slipped out before he could stop himself. “Shit,” he muttered, biting his lip.

“Aw, c’mon it was kind of cute. You being all innocent like that,” he teased, leaning in a little bit. “Kind of hot actually,” Aiden laughed, before frowning. “Hey, c’mon. No they aren’t. It was all... whatever it was. Things were different. I wasn’t in Quidditch. I’m sure everyone will just think that was the different part about you,” he said with a small smile. He reached out and pu a hand on Declan’s arm, trying to reassure him.

“Look, I don’t want to talk about it, all right?” Declan put on his best scowl. It probably wouldn’t deter anything, but it was worth a shot.

“So we’re not gonna talk about how you were a blushing virgin and we were practically fucking in the lake?”

“Yeah... I was pretty shit...,” he mumbled, before glancing up at Marcus. “Listen... about before that whole... thing. Can we just go back to being best mates?”

Aiden blinked before smiling, flushing slightly. He couldn’t believe he’d missed someone flirting with him. “Oh, shit, sorry,” he said, flying a little bit closer. He’d been so excited to actually fly again. “I ugh... Kinda missed that. I got excited,” he said sheepishly.
