In Marvel's Voices: Avengers Academy #23, we get a flashback scene where on Arnie Roth's death bed, Arnie tells Steve, "I...I love you, Steve Rogers". Steve replies by kissing Arnie on the forehead and says, "I loved you too, Arnie Roth. I always will." This follows a few previous issues in the series giving us a glimpse of Steve and Arnie's childhood where it's made clear that Arnie has had romantic feelings for Steve since they were young, but it's not made explicit if Steve's feelings were ever reciprocated..........until now...........the rest of the issue has Steve bonding with Aaron Fischer, a gay Jewish teen who has also taken up the Captain America mantle.

i love love love my deranged best friend buck buckley!!!!!! he has big giant muscles and a gymbro phenotype but he hates and is bad at sports. he tells the guy he’s dating that he’s doing keto :( but then immediately turns around and makes 14 trays of lasagna to be consumed by his husband and child in an elimination-style tournament. he has a quadruple digit body count but all he ever really wants is to be loved and held and listened to. he has never heard of rambo or tlc but could identify a rhinoceros beetle from a hundred feet away and then tell you sixteen different facts about it including its scientific name and the date of its classification. he struggles with authority but will literally kill himself and then you (in that order) if you try to deviate from his plan when he’s the one in charge. he tried to become a navy seal because he wanted to be a badass but then self-selected out because he realized his heart was too big and squishy to do the job. just :( and also :)

am i the only one who doesn’t like when fics put a lot of emphasis on physical appearance to make clear the sex dynamics? i find it really weird when the bottom in mlm is described almost as a woman (or worse, a child) or when the top in wlw would very much be a man if you changed up a couple of pronouns

nothing wrong with feminine men and masculine women (and this post is not taking into account nb people, but it’s very weird that when it’s a nb and cis couple the nb person is always the bottom ngl), that’s not what the post is about, i just find it weird we’re still pushing heteronormative dynamics in 2024

anyway i get kinks and everything but it’s very tiring because it almost seems like all queer fics are like this but maybe i just don’t have luck finding good ones ☹️☹️☹️

one thing i see often about movie cherik specifically is people assuming erik is staunchly anti-telepathy but this is simply not true. there are multiple times when erik tells charles to stay out of his head, yes, but these are all moments when he is exceptionally angry. we know erik likes that charles thinks there’s good in him, and we also know he disagrees. he tells charles to stay out when he believes his anger will make charles see his true nature.

but there are also moments where he welcomes charles inside his mind. when they train in first class, charles asks “may i” and wiggles his fingers, and erik agrees without hesitation despite having no idea what charles plans to do. he trusts him. multiple times throughout the prequel movies, when he is without his helmet, he brings up the fact that charles could make him do whatever he wishes. he is joking, but the fact that he can joke about it at all shows just how deeply he trusts him. he never shows disgust or mistrust towards charles ability- in fact his whole fight is that no one should have to hide their mutation

even when he puts the helmet on the first time, he says “sorry charles, it’s not that i don’t trust you” he simply knows that he is disappointing him- knows that without the helmet, charles would be able to stop him, but also knows he wouldn’t, and is therefore saving them both from the what ifs when he chooses to wear it

tldr; erik never actually had a problem with charles inside his head! and it drives me crazy when that’s the whole basis of fics even though erik trusts charles more than he has ever trusted anyone else from the very moment they meet

(maybe she didn’t mind in fc and becore, but once she’s joined the brotherhood you can clearly see how much she doesn’t like it!! she literally storms off when he speaks to her telepathically - meaning he wasn’t even reading her mind)
