Imagine popping a dvd in to watch with Killian and the pop up of: “Piracy is not a victimless crime” comes up before the movie starts. What would his reaction be?
“Love, how do you steal something you can’t touch?” He seems genuinely confused and intrigued.
You sigh. You pause the movie. “You’re in another country…there’s no physical copy of this movie.” You hold up the physical dvd you’d put in. “You’ve no way to watch the movie, what do you do?” You answer your own question before he can answer. “You’ve go online to a shady ass site to watch it or download it for free without paying for it.”
“And that’s still…illegal?”
“Very much so but you know what? It’s not actually enforced too strictly.”
This makes him perk up. “Really? It’s not? How easy is it?”
“It’s not really that hard to watch things illegally to be honest…have a good malwa-”
“We must pirate movies now, love, it’ll be fun! Where’s that small flip magic box?”
“You mean my laptop?”
“Yes! That!”
You sigh. Maybe you should’ve just stuck to legally streaming movies when with him.
"Look, I know it sounds appealing to do forbidden things from time to time, but I thought your days of piracy were over?"
"I believe in a few things, love." He raises a brow, grinning, "Good form..."
"Yeah, well, that's debatable in this case," you answer, rolling your eyes a little in a playful manner.
"But you just said that there is practically no other way to get a hold of some of those," he's gesturing with his hand in the direction of the TV, "moving picture... you know what I mean..."
You're amused that he seems to not remember the word all of a sudden and wonder if it's out of excitement for a new 'treasure hunt'. But he clearly hadn't finished vocalizing his thoughts, yet...
"In any case, since there appear to be loads of people who do this, my other belief won't even hurt anybody — for a thief among thieves, there is honour," he winks, a big smirk plastered on his face.
"That's even more debatable," you chuckle, shaking your head at this reasoning.
"I always wanted to do a tad of piracy one day with you, love," he scoots closer, eyes drilling holes in yours, "And now you're denying me this wish that easily? I'd say that's bad form."
“Killian Jones, if you throw good or bad form at me one more time” you warn, shaking your head “…just because some people do it, or everyone does it and people don’t get caught…does not mean it’s right to do.”
“Is it really wrong if no one’s telling you it is?”
You tilt your head. “Did you not read the warning?”
“There’s warnings on alcohol too now. Doesn’t stop me.” He drinks from his seemingly ever present rum flask,
You look at him with the most concerned look.
“How are you still alive?” You ask softly.
“Devastatingly good genetics.” He smirks.
“Genetics does not save you from dying of alcohol poisoning.” You point out.
“I’ve been drinking rum for most of my life. I’m fine,” he dismisses.
“Just yesterday, I literally had to drag you to the bath-”
He cuts me off. “Ah buh buh, that’s…just…that’s…” he trails off.
“What? The price of being a scoundrel? You don’t have to be a pirate, you know. You can be anything you want to be. Because don’t tell me it’s always fun.”
“It’s plenty of fun.” He tries to defend.
“It’s fun being drunk all the time?”
“What else am I supposed to be?” He asks softly. “I don’t know how to be anything else.”
He side-eyes you skeptically, putting the rim of his leather-bound flask of rum to his lips again.
"Give that to me!" You snatch the flask out of his grasp and take a swig before you put the cork back on and put it someplace out of his reach.
"Have you been serious?" He suddenly asks after a small moment of heated silence.
"About what?"
"Finding something else for me..." He admits sheepishly.
You tilt your head, annoyed at that he's doubting your words. Doubting your determination to help him become a better man. Doubting your devotion to do whatever it takes... Well, then again, you just had drawn the line at online pirating...
"I am. There's surely many things you're good at except drinking an unholy amount of rum..."
"Does pillaging and plundering count?" He smirks playfully.
"As much as I enjoy your jokes, but let's be for real for a minute," you take his hand in both of yours, "Okay?"
He nods briefly, trailing circles on your hand with his thumb.
"I can read maps and star charts. Obviously know my way around ships and proper nutrition... My abilities in speaking Latin and Greek are decent, too..."
"Proper nutrition? Really? With all that rum intake?" You question his statement, frowning.
"I'm talking about vitamins, love. Has never been a single case of scurvy under my command, I can tell you that."
One thing about OUAT that will always blow my mind is how, in the end. Regina and Snow genuinely never stood a chance because both of their mothers were plotting, conniving, and hated each other before they were born. Snow and Regina's lives were so deeply entertwined before they were even born because Cora had Regina's life laid out all this time (and in the end, Regina and Snow were just pawns in her game to gain more power).
And I think an interesting thing between Regina and Snow and all this entenglement, is that, Eva bettered herself instead of parenting Snow the way Cora did with Regina, and we get to see that in how opposite their reaction is to their situations.
Daniel died- which was terrible, and all of Cora's fault. Regina put the blame on Snow, and granted, Rumple definitely played in her becoming evil, but as the years went by, Regina never once took accountability for the things she was doing as the Evil Queen. Snow was always her scapegoat- and this is not judgement of Regina it itself or me saying she hasn't gone through a lot, because she has, but merely an observation. She's all about pushing blame onto others (even when she's commits literal murders).
Meanwhile Snow has essentially been shouldering burdens that aren't hers since she was a child. She believed her mother's death to be her own fault, and when Regina killed her father, she sought the queen's forgiveness and accepted to be killed so no one else would be harmed- and this whole time, she did not know why Regina hated her (we can assume she thought it was because it was her fault Leopold wanted to marry Regina, but she had no idea that Daniel was dead, that Cora had killed him). Every instance of Regina harming anyone close to her made her feel deeply responsible, even though she had no part in it.
(And I think their upbringing paid a huge role in it because Eva likely taught Snow about accountability (for lack of better word), whereas when it comes to Regina, things were genuinely out of her control her whole life because of Cora, who we know to be deeply controlling. I wonder how much the fact that Regina was denied the possibility to make her own choices by Cora then Leopold ties into all of this.)
(I don't know how to conclude this, I just love thinking about these two and I think it's interesting to see how opposite these two were i guess lol)
