The thing about Damianos Akielos is that he is a Hot Commodity. There’s probably a 30 page waiting list out there of people who want a chance to date him. The only problem is that since the age of fourteen, he’s never been single for more than a week. A week!

“He sounds great,” the bartender says, polishing a glass. Laurent realises that he’s been speaking out loud. He is drunk. He also realises that this bartender - Rick, or Mick, or Mike, or whatever his nametag says, words are a little blurry at this point - doesn’t realise the magnitude of the situation at hand.

Damen Akielos is Single, Facebook says.

“He’s single,” Laurent says.

Summary: Auguste lives AU. Instead of meeting Laurent under the guise of a slave, Damen is forced to hide his identity and become Nicaise’s tutor. In the tenuous political situation, both are willing to do what it takes to ensure that the right person ends up on the throne.

Laurent growing old and happy is the only thing that keeps me going. That and the hc that Damen gifts him a new earring every 10 years, starting at Laurent’s 30th birthday. For 30, damen gifted him a garnet (a deep orange variety), which is supposed to offer protection from nightmares. At 40 years old, the unification of Vere and Akielos finally reaches a place of stability and peace, and Damen gifts Laurent a Ruby earring: the king of all gems, meaning good fortune and prosperity. At 50 (pictured), Damen gives him a Diamond earring, as a symbol of eternal love and fidelity. [In the first picture the gem is Nicaise’s sapphire, not a gift from Damen. Sapphire is a stone of wisdom, and the ability to seek hidden truths. The reminder it serves to Laurent is humbling and motivating, but also carries a hint of guilt, and he is eventually relieved to trade it out for the Garnet on his 30th birthday.]
