(Open) Day After the Trial
Soda awoke in his room, his vision bleary and his mind fuzzy.
He was still alive.
Letting out a low groan, Soda stepped out of bed and stumbled through the door, squinting at how bright the hallway lights were.
“Fuck.” He mumbled out, sighing a little bit before shakily making his way down the hall, his heart like a rock in his chest.
“Shoulda been me.. Fuckin’ bastards, rather kill a kid than let me die.” He practically yelled. He was only half concious really, so he was stumbling all over as he spoke.
Floating slowly and listlessly through the mansion, Snow Sugar hung its head, finding itself utterly exhausted from its outbursts earlier. What… horrible things it had said. It was still mad, but the grief that clouded its thoughts overshadowed everything else, settling like a thick fog over its entire self.
In its clouded state, it nearly bumped into someone, stumbling a bit and stepping off to the side. Soda?… Could he hear ghosts?
It shrugged. It was worth a shot… Cupping its hands around its mouth, it leaned foward a bit, calling out to him.
“H-Hey, Soda, are you okay?…”
Soda looked around, concerned.
“Who was..?”
He groaned and shook his head, continuing his stumbling.
“Great. Now the ghosts are gonna tell me I can’t be happy either. Who’s talking?”
Soda wobbled a bit midstep and fell against a wall, slumping against it tiredly. Standing had been too difficult.
“If you’re Devil, i’m sorry, okay? I tried to save you.” He sounded bitter.
“Uh, i-it’s Snow Sugar.” It spoke, sliding down to sit up against the wall he was slumped on, pulling its knees up to its chest and resting its chin on top of its knees. It was a little scared of what Soda would say in response to this, considering the fight they almost had at Blackberry’s party, but Snow no longer harbored any ill intentions towards him.
“I, uh… I get what you’re going through here with all this. I’ve felt the same shit.”
Soda squinted, trying to think.
“You.. You lost Gumball, right. You.. You understand why I did what I did, right?”
He was obviously desperate for any sort of emotional encouragement or reassurance.
“I.. I don’t care about seeing the outside world anymore, Snow Sugar. I.. I want to see him, and that’s.. That’s worth lying to everyone about, right?”
He sounded fragile. Broken.
“Yeah… Yeah, I did. I understand why you did what you did… I probably would’ve done the same had I had enough time and had known he did it, but I guess voting for myself is similar enough.”
It paused, mulling over its words.
“Soda… I haven’t spoken to Wizard yet, but I can tell you he almost certainly wants nothing more than for you to get out of here alive. Gumball wanted that for me, and I failed him. I don’t want to see you let Wizard down.”
Soda looked in the direction he thought Snow was. “I.. But, why? I mean, Wizard actually had a family, and.. People who would miss him!”
He sighed and crossed his arms, digging his nails into his forearms.
“I don’t. I never did. I’ve spent my whole damn life being a casual friend to everyone and never anything more.”
He bit his lip and shook a little.
“I just want to be with him. I was so fucking happy with him and.. I’m not gonna feel that happy ever again. If there’s any way I can be with him again..”
He looked at Snow Sugar, almost begging it to take back what it said.
“He’ll have to forgive me. Even if I let him down by dying, that’s okay. I let Blackberry down because Devil died. I let everyone else down because I wanted to hide the truth.”
“I’m used to being disappointing. But this time i’ll be happy about it.”
“…“ It stared down at the floor, unsure of what to say.
“…I’ve been alone too, you know. I lived in solitude in snowy wasteland for years, and even after I found something to get social interaction out of, it wasn’t another cookie. Loneliness is second nature for me.” It sighed softly, closing its eyes “What I’m trying to say is, I get where you’re coming from.”
“I… I don’t want you to end up like me. I was too weak, I couldn’t handle what had happened.” Funny, it thought to itself. My motive was to be strong in death, and here I am, feeling like a weakling once again “You still have life ahead of you, you could make it out of here. I know it’s tempting to join Wizard on whatever side I’m existing on right now, but… You gotta keep going. For his sake.”
He remained silent for several moments.
Then Soda frowned.
“..I hate it, but you’re.. Probably right. I don’t know.”
He buried his face in his arms, and suddenly remembered something.
He laughed a bit, then peeked out at Snow.
“By the way. I never apologized for almost kicking your ass that one time. During the party. Sorry about that.”
At least he was smiling, even if it was slightly sad.
It shrugged “I’m just tellin’ the truth. He’d want you to live.”
Raising its eyebrows, it gave a slight chuckle, resting a hand on the back of its neck “A-Ah, shit, I forgot about that.” A lie, but it wasn’t about to let him know it was wary at the beginning of this conversation “S’ fine, I kinda provoked it anyways. Y’all should’ve cut me off, I am the worst drunk.”
"I'm not much better drunk, let's be honest. I was gonna try and seduce Balckberry at one point, how fucked up would that have been?"
He laughed to himself, the first genuine happy laugh that had come from him since Wizard died.
"Man, I think everyone got fucked up during that party. I mean.. Damn, getting all the cookies drunk was a bad idea."
He ran a hand through his liquid hair, smiling now.
"Funny in perspective, though."
