Jane Austen’s ‘Love & Friendship’ Comes To Screen, And It’s An Absolute Treat
Fresh Air film critic David Edelstein reviews Love & Friendship, adapted from Jane Austen’s novella Lady Susan, which published after her death:
“I don’t care for [director Whit] Stillman’s dullish title, Love & Friendship. I even prefer the ones suggested with tongue-in-cheek by author Leo Rockas, who adapted Lady Susan into a novel: Flirtation and Forbearance or Coquetry and Caution. But by any title, the movie is an absolute treat.”
Aww I love this!! 😍😍

Marquette President John P. Raynor, S.J., with Keith Haring
In 1955, the Marquette University Committee on the Fine Arts was formed to oversee the university’s growing art collection and to develop a plan for the preservation and expansion of it. The committee began sponsoring exhibitions, lectures, and other art activities.
By the late 1970s, it had become apparent that Marquette needed a permanent facility to house the collection, and the Marquette University Women’s Council sprang into action to raise the funds that would make this possible. Women’s Council President Pat Apple led the successful building campaign which was capped by the naming gift provided by Beatrice and Patrick Haggerty.
Groundbreaking for the Haggerty Museum of Art took place in April 1983. During the early construction phase, New York graffiti artist Keith Haring painted a mural on the wooden walls that lined the construction site.
The finished painting is now an iconic piece in the museum’s permanent collection, as well as a significant early work in Haring’s career.
The Haggerty Museum of Art opened on November 11, 1984, and the Marquette University art collection had a space of its own.
Keith Haring was born this day in 1958.
Michelle McNamara, writer and wife of comedian Patton Oswalt, died at the age of 46 last month. In addition to the hearbreaking tweet above, Oswalt has written an emotional tribute to the “blast crater” she has left behind.
