Summary: my dr is really hot and I need a physical
I sucked in a deep breath as I pushed open the glass door to the clinic. I hated this place, but I had to be here. I’d recently gotten a new job and lucky me, they required that I get medical clearance from a doctor - so here I was. I stepped up to the desk at the front, where a very tired middle-aged woman sat, clicking away at her keyboard. “Hi, um.. I have an appointment with Dr. Iero at 3.” I glanced down at my watch. It was 2:45.
The woman took my information rather quickly, and sent me off to sit in the waiting area. I sat myself down, adjusting slightly in the uncomfortable plastic chair. My heart was thumping hard in my chest, so I took a few deep breaths to try to calm myself down, though nothing was working. I sat there for the next 15 minutes, regretting my decision to be so early. Next time, I thought to myself, I’m showing up exactly on time.
And as if on cue, when the clock said ‘3:00’ I heard my name being called from the door. My head shot up and I stumbled a little as I got up from the chair, heading inside with the nurse. She showed me to a room, that had ‘exam room 4’ written on it in small black lettering. Just the words ‘exam room’ made my mouth go dry. I knew what was coming.
I took a seat on the bed, the paper crinkling under me. The nurse let me know that my doctor would be in soon, and she shut the door as she left. I took a look around the room as I waited. Pretty typical - some posters on the wall with some kind of diagrams, blood pressure cuff, and some other miscellaneous medical items scattered along the table. I could feel my pulse rising, getting faster and faster with anticipation as I waited for the doctor to arrive.
Again, as if he could hear exactly what I was thinking, the door swung open. “I’m Dr. Iero. But you knew that.” He flashed me a smile, and my heart stuttered in my chest. I’d seen him more than once, but every single time, I was taken aback by how gorgeous he was. I watched him closely as he took a seat in the chair next to me, scribbling something down on a piece of paper. “Okay, just a physical?” I nodded, and he quickly got to work.
We got through the first half rather painlessly, as it was mainly just questions like ‘do you smoke?’ and ‘how much do you sleep?’ though I was still fighting with my own body to get my heart rate down before he started. It wasn’t working.
“Alright, everything sounds good there.” He folded up the file that was in his hands before standing up in front of me. “I’m just gonna check your temperature first.” He gave me a smile, and placed the thermometer under my tongue. He did the routine things: checked my eyes, ears, throat, etc. and those were okay. It’s when he took out the blood pressure cuff that I started feeling uneasy again.
“Let me know if it’s too uncomfortable, okay?” He said, wrapping the cuff around my arm. “Should only take a second.” I watched his face as I felt it tighten around my arm, and then slowly release. He seemed focused, he was good at his job. “Little high.. nothing to worry about.” He pulled the cuff off, hanging it back where it was originally. “Okay, I’m gonna take your pulse now.” And without much of a warning, he had two fingers pressed against my neck. I felt my stomach twist and my heart thump hard when he did this, and I was fairly certain my face was bright red by now.
“A little quick. Are you nervous?” He asked softly, moving to do the same thing with my wrist. I didn’t respond for a moment, too caught up in my own head to even comprehend what he’d said to me. “Hm?” He looked up at me, writing something down on his clipboard.
“Huh? Oh, yeah.” I laughed sheepishly. “Kinda nervous. Haven’t been to a doctor in a little while.”
“Nothing to be nervous about.” He reassured, but it only seemed to make things worse. I watched as he took his stethoscope from around his neck, plugging the earpieces into his ears. “Take a deep breath for me..” he placed the diaphragm on my back, listening in a few different places. “Lungs sound good.” He mumbled, almost to himself. He pulled back, taking the earpieces out for a moment. “Would you mind taking off your t-shirt for me?”
My heart was hammering against my ribs by now, but I nodded. I pulled my t-shirt off over my head and set it down on my lap. “Thank you.” He gave me a smile. “Just gonna feel your heart first..” he placed his hand flat against the centre my chest, and I could feel my heart pounding against it. I shut my eyes, trying to will my heart to slow as he moved his hand, pushing it under my left breast. Nothing was working. I could hear it clearly in my ears.
Th-thump. Th-thump. Th-thump.
“I’m gonna give it a listen, alright? Try to relax.” He placed his stethoscope on my chest, his other hand on my back to keep me steady. He moved his stethoscope around my chest, and I could’ve sworn I felt my heart skip each time he did. I could feel the warmth between my legs, but tried to ignore it as he listened closely to my heart. His eyebrows furrowed, and he took the stethoscope off of my chest. “It sounds.. mostly healthy. Does it always beat this fast?” He asked, looking a little concerned.
“No, just.. doctors.” I breathed, mentally cringing at the fact that I could hear my own voice trembling.
“Hm.” He didn’t seem satisfied with that answer. “Want to lie down on the bed for me?” He gently pushed my shoulder, and I did as I was told.
Once I was on my back, he started listening again. He had his eyes shut, the diaphragm of the stethoscope pressed firmly against my chest. I could feel my heart pushing against the stethoscope, and I was pretty sure I could see his hand moving along with it if I looked close enough. He opened his eyes and met my gaze, causing my heart to thrash and pound in my chest. Additionally, it made my face go bright red, because I knew he could hear it.
He leaned back and took his stethoscope off, humming softly. “Looks like I’m going to need to run a couple more tests..”
