how to be an organised student
and productive and successful and all the other things that students are expected to be
ORGANISATION
keep some form of notebook with you at all times whether this is a bullet journal (my personal favourite), a diary, or just a general notebook, having something with you all the time is essential to make sure that you don’t forget any homeworks or tasks that need completing
make lists use this notebook to make lists of all your tasks which need completing so that you can physically see everything that needs to be done. include dates underneath of when each piece is due in so that you don’t do all the hard work and forget to hand it in. you can also use this to prioritise tasks and I like to add a little symbol next to each one so that I can have the satisfaction of crossing them off once you’re done.
have a calendar handy again a simple calendar whether it’s part of a bullet journal, diary or just a big one of your wall, adding in both social and academic dates can help see a month in perspective and allows you to see times when you’re free as well as times when you don’t have a lot of time. this will allow for a more effective planning which is less likely to be disrupted.
find a way to organise your notes which suits you everyone’s brains work differently and everyone will have a different method which suits them. personally, I take one notebook and one folder to school so that I can take all my notes for every subject in one place and then tear them out and sort them by subject in the folder. once we have finished a topic or I know that I don’t need to take the sheets and notes for that section to school everyday, I file them into separate subject folders which are sectioned into topics or themes. this is the way that I found to reduce the risk of things going missing or me forgetting to bring things in (as you can tell I’m very forgetful).
PRODUCTIVITY
stick to you plan I know that this can be difficult, but there’e no point in taking the time to be organised if you don’t follow it through. ensure, as often as possible, that you complete every task for that set day and if you don’t, make sure to factor that in to the next day’s workload.
find out how you work best personally, I can’t listen to music when I’m writing an essay because I get too distracted but if I’m just taking notes or doing a simpler task, I like to have music or netflix on because it keeps me motivated and entertained. I know some people need complete silence, some need crazy heavy metal, some need soothing piano music. finding out what works best for you is the best way to become more productive
don’t get distracted I have the shortest attention span ever. I would rather absent mindedly scroll the internet than write that next paragraph of an essay. so, I prefer to write a paragraph and then take a little break, do another section or word count or time and then take a break. this allows me to split up my time and not get too bored by the prospect of essay writing at the same time as keeping a focus and not procrastinating so hard that nothing ever gets finished (we have all been guilty of this before)
EXTRAS
make sure you eat and keep hydrated don’t lock yourself in a room and just try and bash through everything, use your breaks to keep hydrated and eat foods which increase energy but which are also tasty and enjoyable meals.
maintain a social life school is not the be all and end all of teenage life, ensure you are still going out with friends and doing social activities - just texting over social media doesn’t count, get out of the house.
do what you enjoy wherever it’s possible, choose subjects and topics which you enjoy and save the work which is the easiest and most enjoyable for periods where you have less time or you know you will be more stressed or tired etc
I hope this was at all useful, any questions or explanations hmu and please tell me if you enjoy this style of masterpost and what else would you like to see me post. xxx
