Before I start writing, I just want to congratulate myself for letting me write something about being a young adult (yeheeey! congratulations Carl). Well, I donāt know what came to my mind why I shouldĀ write these things but Iām sure our generation of young adults (millennials?, maybe) will understand what Iām going through as a twixter.Ā
Being a young adult sucks! It is a total paradigm shift of what I see about life when I was in college. Huge differences happened after graduating because before, you only worry about exams, quizzes, and lectures. Your only goal that time is to graduate, to be a licensed Physiotherapist, to reach the end of the line, that's it! You donāt have any idea what will happen beyond that. Your attention and focus are to make your parents proud after finishing school and becoming licensed.Ā
So, what now? where will you go? what will you do now? what are your plans? Beyond that line, you are on your own. There were no classmates or friends that will have the same goal as you. (maybe few) To metaphorize it, you are stuck in an island and you need to decide what direction you will swim. Any direction will lead you to somewhere but you donāt know if your destination will be a good place or not, will it take you so long or fast to reach it.Ā Many medical professionals in my generation might think to pursue Medicine to become a medical doctor, others might continue their professions, specialize on something or take masters (like me), others think to change careers, or some might just want to settle at home. Many directions, many paths, many possibilities, and many opportunities. Where will your compass point you? I think, right now, I am already swimming in a particular direction with no assurance where will it take me. Iām alone, arenāt we all? :( Iāll just keep on swimming like Dory in Finding Nemo. I will reach the end of the line... maybe soon.
Now, like your parents, older brothers and sisters, you are already an adult. ADULTING! But you are still young, but still an adult. but young (hehehe...) Your parents are now relying on you becauseĀ āMAY TRABAHO KA NAā. You are now paying bills and giving money to your parents for your daily food. The money you use now to buy pens are your own earnings. You do not have the right now to ask for an allowance. You are on your own. Suddenly, everything changes from your perspective of life before. Totally shifted. No one dares to warn you that this will be the life after school. It is not actually bad but everything is entirely altered. Maybe, because Iām not yet prepared for this new life Iām facing but eventually, I will be used to it. Like everyone else, we are all adjusting. Adjusting to the new people we encounter, adjusting to the new environment, adjusting to anything new.
