[text] Carlo darling, they have opened the ice rink for the season. I have not been skating in ages. Will you come with me?
[text] Absolutely.
[text] I need to get out and do something fun anyway. When were you thinking?

[text] Wonderful! Between you and I, I did fear falling flat on my bottom. [text] Does Saturday work for you?
[text] If you fall, does it make things better if I fall too? I’ll try my best to lend you a strong arm so that you don’t fall, however.
[text] Saturday works fine. What time?

“The medication is very effective,” she assured him with a soft smile although she had done enough research to know the limitations of the medication. Megan watched him as he responded, feeling a longing for the company that they gave each other. “Is work busy just now?” she asked to avoid the obvious question of was he spending time with anyone else.
He breathed out a sigh of relief. “Good, that’s good to hear.” At her smile, Carlo tried to give her one in return, although it was almost halfhearted. The question she asked had him pause for a moment. “It’s busy enough, not too much busier than I normally am. I think things with everything else are just... slow at the moment.” He hadn’t really spent much time with people, but there was no rush, not yet although his family might have felt otherwise.

She felt like she should give some further protestation at that, but she couldn’t deny that she felt a persistent warmth at hearing him speak about her that way. Especially since it seemed like he really meant it. “You have a such a smooth tongue, I can hardly keep up.”
Adelaide thought it over for a moment before deciding to give him an abbreviated version of what he had missed. “I don’t know if anyone remembers how it started between the Capulets and the Montagues. There are a lot of reasons for it, and at least some of it comes down to sheer differences in mental and cultural attitudes. But once the fighting between them got bad enough, it continued because each side was taking revenge for the harm and the blood spilled by the other side. Over the years, it became more entrenched and violet, which meant it also became bigger. That was the reason for the decree a few years ago. Innocent people had died in the crossfire, and the resulting outcry made the Prince decide enough was enough. They needed to make peace or they needed to leave. They fulfilled the requirements at the time, but the peace is new enough to still be uneasy. So a Capulet judge ruling over a Montague trial that goes against him…its going to remind a lot of people of before.”
Was he…blushing? Because of her compliments? It was the closest to flustered she had ever seen him. It gave her a strange feeling of power to know that she was capable of causing that kind of reaction in him for just speaking what she thought of as the truth. “You do realize you’re changing your story? One moment you say you have no skill, the next that it’s because you were with your brother. Something tells me you’re being modest and I won’t stand for it.”
A warm smile spread over his face, and he chuckled at her comment. “So I’ve been told. Although, I mean what I say. But... I think you might be the first person that has thought that about me since I got into this city. You should’ve seen me in Ragusa. You might not even recognize me between who I was there and who I am here.”
Carlo listened to her explanation and then he let out a huff. “Whew, if that’s not a story then I don’t know what is. Honestly, the history of the city sounds like something I would’ve read about in a novel. Something nice and dramatic, with all sorts of twists, turns, drama, death, and conflict.” If he was being honest, he was pretty glad that he’d missed all of that. Granted, he knew things like this happened, he knew people who had done plenty of questionable things, but having missed the Verona drama of the past was a relief. “Were you here for any of that?”
Letting out a sigh he shrugged and let out a nervous laugh. “It’s just that... I don’t know... I don’t feel like I did anything terribly important. Even you did more than I did that night, i think. What’s throwing a few punches, and pushing people around?”
Concern || Megan & Carlo
megcapulet:
Megan gave his hand a squeeze, a reassuring smile on her lips. “It takes a few days for the medication to work properly so they won’t release me yet but my doctor doesn’t see any reason that it won’t work. I’ve always known that there was a chance at some point I would need surgery but I try not to think about it if I’m honest. There’s no real way of knowing when, I just have to hope that the medication can control it for a long time.” Of course with stress being such a major trigger for her condition she knew that she needed to find better ways to manage her stress or she was going to end up back in hospital soon. “How have you been?” she asked, changing the subject.
At least her doctor didn’t seem to think there was concern with her medication. That eased Carlo a little. Although, the idea of her needing surgery eventually was an unsettling one. There was no point in dwelling on something that they didn’t need to think about then. He nodded at her explanation. “Well, let’s not worry about surgery, then. Hopefully, you’ll be able to take care of it with the medication for a long time to come.” He wasn’t sure how that worked, he was no doctor, so he didn’t go any further than that. Carlo shrugged slightly, “Alright, I suppose. Nothing really going on outside of the ordinary. I work, I drink, I read, I eat... that’s pretty much all I have going for me at the moment.”
juliet-evelyn-capulet:
At the question, Evie nodded, assuming from the man’s comments that he wasn’t indeed from Verona. “I was born here, yes. But I grew up mostly in London. My mother sent me to boarding school there.” She didn’t add that she’d only come back when her mother had passed away. “You must not be then? I’m Ev…Juliet. Juliet Capulet,” she said, extending her hand.
Her answer surprised him, London wasn’t the answer he’d been anticipating at all. “Really? London? Why there, I wonder?” Carlo asked, wondering if there was a particular reason for it. “No, I’m from Ragusa.” And he was missing it increasingly with every single day that went by and things seemed not to go his way. When she said her name, he tried to swallow down the concern. Another Capulet. He somehow always managed to meet them. “It’s a pleasure to meet you Juliet. My name’s Carlo Romano.” He replied as he reached out to take her hand with a small, friendly smile. “So, do you ever miss London?” He asked.
liana-romano:
Carlo’s hugs always filled Liana with a sense of safety, and now was no exception. “I’m okay. I was out in it too. I fell and hit my head.” She frowned and rubbed at her head without realizing what she was doing. “I ended up in the hospital with a concussion. Lord Silvius came to get me.” She didn’t like the idea of Carlo being in that chaos. If anything had happened to him… “Thank God you’re alright though.”
Seeing her rub her head had him feeling terribly about how he’d not known about her injury. He reached up to take her hand in his. Liana had been in the hospital, and Carlo had not even heard one word of it. Had he been that wrapped up in himself that he missed important information about someone in his family he cared about so much? “I wish I’d known. I could have come to the hospital for you. Were you alone? Were you with someone at least?” It seemed silly to worry about it now. “I don’t know about thanking God, but yeah... I’m alright.” He nodded over to the bench. “Why don’t we sit back down?”
luanmoretti:
“I -hic- guesh I’ve been doing parties wrong since I started going to them then,” Luan replied with a shrug as she swayed slightly from side to side. She had actually only started attending parties once she’d been accepted into the Montague family so her experiences were extremely limited. She always seemed to hear about them at the last minute or after they had passed and direct invitations to events were extremely rare despite doing her best to ‘get out there’. The shy girl smiled when he removed his mask, her own was dangling from her fingers having been removed when she had gone for her cry but being able to clearly see his face made her feel less apprehensive.
“Ish not a holiday, ish an excuse to scare people and eat too mush sugar.” Luan’s head tilted to the side in a more exaggerated manner than it normally would, she knew what it was like to feel obligated to attend family events, though they had become far less frequent recently. “I’m Lu- Luan.” She held the bottle out towards the man before her. “It’sh horrible but mu- made me feel better,” she explained with a small giggle and a hiccough. “I got kissed by two Domme’s lasht Halloween. That was my favourite,” she blurted out, her drunken state making her overshare horribly. “But -hic- they’re both gone now.”
There was a pause as he shook his head at her statement. “No, I’d say there’s no right or wrong way to do parties. However, I suppose there are plenty who would agree that this is the right way.” Carlo would likely have been among them, in particular before he had come to live in Verona. He seemed like a completely different person since arriving here, almost as if the person he had been before was someone else entirely. A party wasn’t the place to think about who he had been before, and whether it was worth trying to become that man again, or whether he just continue on the way he’d been since coming here. His luck certainly seemed to have changed since arriving, but luck was fickle and he’d had plenty of it in the past.
In truth, Carlo agreed with her assessment of Halloween. He didn’t care about dressing up, and he didn’t care about candy either. When she held the bottle out towards him, his eyes fell to it wondering if she was intending to hand it over to him. He couldn’t completely tell and he didn’t want to be rude and wrench it from her hand. “Well, Luan... My name’s Carlo.” He gave a small chuckle at her statement and moved toward her. “I’m sorry that the Dommes you kissed last Halloween are gone. It’s a shame for them.” He held his arm out to her, “Why don’t I get you to a seat? Promise not to leave you alone with all the scary and masked strangers. I can even find food, are you hungry?” He was worried she would fall over, and she definitely needed some food in her stomach if she was drinking. He was thinking of finding water too, just in case. She would likely be feeling the effects of this alcohol for a while yet, but there was no point in leaving her to end up sick. If he could prevent it, he would try.
luanmoretti:
Luan was only vaguely aware of where she was and where she was going as she staggered forward but a sense of calm and taken over and it was only the slight spinning sensation that was getting to her now. She swigged from her bottle and scowled at some bat decorations she spotted but continued on her way. She stopped when a voice addressed her and she turned towards its owner, blinking a couple of times so her vision would focus.
The normally incredibly shy submissive didn’t feel the rush of anxiousness that always filled her when talking to a stranger and instead she responded straight away. “Is thish what a party looks like?” Her arms moved up and down wildly to indicate herself. “I don’t know, I’m not ushually a party -hic- goer.” His follow up question did make some of her usual anxiousness rise and she combated it by taking another swig from the bottle. “Ish the costumes,” she slurred, “they remind me of… stuff. That I don’t want to think about. I’ve alwaysh hated it. It’s horrible. I should have stayed at home like lasht year.”
Listening to her speak, and watching her carefully, Carlo could tell that the alcohol she’d been drinking had definitely made an effect. Honestly, he would give just about anything to be in the same state she was in. It would dull his disappointment. That thought only made him feel even more pathetic at the fact that he had never really experienced things not particularly going his way and it had left him wholly unprepared to handle a failed attempted relationship, and watching another person he had interest in being in an arranged claim with his cousin. Yeah, he was definitely pathetic, and he definitely needed alcohol. A lot of it.
“Well, for someone who isn’t usually a party goer... heads up, this is usually what happens at a party.” Carlo gestured to her in her current state, but his comment was said in a friendly tone. Her reason for not liking Halloween left him feeling a bit sympathetic, and extremely curious, but he wasn’t the sort of person to pry. “Well, if you’re not a fan of costumes...” Carlo pulled his mask off, and shrugged, “Halloween is kind of a shit holiday anyway... is it even really a holiday? And I should’ve stayed home as well, but unfortunately it’s a family party and I don’t think they would be too happy if I didn’t show up. What’s your name?”
juliet-evelyn-capulet:
“It’s a lovely party,” Evie answered diplomatically. It was. She wasn’t sure she could say she was having a good time. But she wasn’t miserable either. “A bit crowded. Apparently all of Verona decided to descend.” Which was probably what the family hosting wanted. “And you?”
It was certainly crowded. Carlo could definitely agree with that, and he had been spending the whole party trying to avoid Silvius and trying to fly under the radar. Was he having a good time? Ah, not so much. He really needed to find the alcohol already. “Eh, I suppose... maybe? Haven’t really done much. I think I’m realizing I need to make more friends. Are you from Verona?”
luanmoretti:
Not wanting to feel left out Luan had decided to attend the Halloween party against her better judgement. She had been in the building only seconds before a vampire made her scream and a zombie lurched towards her causing her to want to run. It had been the man in a suit covered in fake blood that had caused her to actually run though, right into a hostess. Luan performed a miraculous catch as a bottle tumbled from the hostess’ tray but she didn’t stop to return it and instead ran with the bottle until she found a quiet corner to have a little cry.
The bottle went untouched at first and when Luan finally decided to try it she thought the contents tasted horrible. The bubbles gave her a strange tickling sensation though which distracted her from her dark thoughts. As the contents of the bottle disappeared Luan felt her bravery increasing and soon found herself staggering back towards the party. “I -hic- hate Halloween,” she said to the bottle before taking another swig from it.
Carlo was wondering when he had become the sort of person to hide away from the rest of the crowds at parties. Lately, it seemed as though he tried to make himself scarce. In truth, he hadn’t found very many things to celebrate. Originally, he’d thought that the party was a good idea, especially after the riots. Now that it had come, and he found himself alone, and not in the scenario that he’d imagined he would be in. Carlo had found a quiet corner, where he could watch the party, and not be noticed.
That was when a female appeared not too far from him, and he watched as she drank the bottle that was in her hand. Now, she’s got the right fucking idea, Carlo thought to himself. Why he hadn’t considered drinking an entire bottle of alcohol so he could find a way to forget all his stupid troubles, he didn’t know. He gave the unknown female an amused expression as she staggered past him, towards the party. “Do you really? I wouldn’t have guessed from how hard you’re partying now,” he commented, although she hadn’t particularly been speaking to him. “What do you hate about it, exactly?”
juliet-evelyn-capulet:
Evie headed toward what she believed to be the entrance of the Romano Event Center, desperately needing fresh air. She pushed open the door and stepped outside. She stood for a moment, relishing the crisp air when she heard the door open behind her.
“It’s a beautiful night.”
Carlo was wandering the event, trying to keep himself occupied so that he didn’t run into Silvius. He didn’t want to explain why he was at the family event alone, despite the fact that he’d originally thought he would be able to invite someone... that had been a fine dose of reality. The sound of an unfamiliar voice caught his attention, and he glanced over at the female, thinking he’d been alone.
Glancing up at the sky, and then back down at her he gave a nod, “Yeah... it is.” Could have been better, but what was the point in complaining. “Having a good time so far?”

adelaidelibrarymaid:
Adelaide just gave him a fond exasperated looking. “Interesting form of selfishness that has you giving gifts and buying food for someone else. But I appreciate being called good company.” Was it the pain? The medication? Or just his company that made it so easy to relax and be natural around him. She wasn’t sure, but she was enjoying it.
Her expression did sober a little at that. “I don’t know that Verona has ever had something happen on that scale before. But this is hardly the first time that kind of scary violence has erupted. I suppose that’s part of what brought so many people out. One part of us thought we could handle it from where it was at before, and the other part knew we couldn’t and needed to save anything possible. But I appreciate your concern. I promise.” She reached over and gave his hand a quick squeeze, cheeks pinking at her own boldness before she settled back in with the food sitting on her lap.
But she completely forgot it again as he started to tell his own story. “You fought your way in and out of that mess to rescue someone? But Sir, that’s incredible! You barely have any bruises. Luck might be part of it, but I’d say there was a fair amount of skill in there as well.” She’d read about how to fight or practice self defense, so she knew a little bit about how hard it actually could be. Not that she’d ever had any practical knowledge, but all the same. What he’d done seemed so heroic to her. His decision to underplay it only emphasized that fact. He hadn’t done it to be noticed, just because it was the kind of thing that needed to be done. It was, in fact, incredible.
“It’s selfish because I feel like I’m getting something out of this just as much as you. Granted, I’m not getting any gifts, but all the rest of it feels like a gift enough.” Carlo smiled softly at her with a small shrug, “You are good company. That’s just the truth of it. There’s no harm in letting you know.”
At the squeeze of her hand, his eyes fell to where her hand was on his, and then quickly back up to catch the blush on her cheeks before she moved back with her food. The small smile on his face grew slightly, but he kept any comments about it to himself, simply enjoying the sight and instead commented on what she had said. “If this isn’t the first violent thing that this city has experienced, then clearly I should have learned more about it before I moved here. Do I even want to know what else has happened here before I ever moved to this city?”
It wasn’t often that Carlo felt genuine embarrassment over compliments, or something that he’d done, but this was one of those instances. His face felt hot from the attention and he shook his head quickly. “No, no it had nothing to do with skill.” He’d been a scrappy sort of fighter growing up, getting into ridiculous fights over nothing serious, but it seemed to work in his favor the night of the riots. “It wasn’t all me... I had Arden there with me, and it’s easier to avoid getting hurt when you’ve got someone to watch your back. I had his, he had mine. That’s all. It was really nothing special, and I’m sure it all sounds far more exciting than it actually was.” He tucked his head down and stopped himself from talking by taking a bite of his food.
Run-In || Cesario & Carlo
cesarioromano:
“It’s been more annoying to commute to work,” Cesario answered. “And I have to drive my ugly car because I don’t trust them with my convertible.” He sipped his drink. “But work still goes on in the rest of the world even if Verona’s gone mad.”
Carlo laughed and shook his head, “Yeah, don’t drive your convertible out there. No point in putting it in potential danger of being damaged.” He nodded at Cesario’s comment and replied, “It seems weird, though, doesn’t it? At least I think it feels odd when the world just keeps going right on as normal after something like this happens. You would think that something would stop, slow down, something like that, but instead things pick right back up where they were left off and it almost makes you forget about everything that happened... almost.”
