A bark of laughter escaped him, her attempts at bargaining amusing him. His disgusting smile only widened, his eyes lit up with a dangerous and feral glow. âHow do I know you wonât just rrrun off and forget about grabbing someone?â he asked, his words slurred and his tone slow, as if he were attempting to talk to her as if she were of below average intelligence. âTrust isnât really my thing, darling.â For a second time he blinked hard, feeling lightheaded and unbalanced; within that, however, was the same bottled up craving for pain that heâd always felt. Except this time nothing was being held back, and he fully expected to get what he wanted, one way or another. His tongue ran along the back of his teeth, his stare startlingly focused for how intoxicated he appeared to be. âOh, I think youâre the one who needs to not do anything stupid,â he nearly purred, taking another few steps in her direction. His lips peeled back, his teeth bared in a sick grin as she screamed at him, though he stumbled back slightly at her shove. His eyes refocused on her knife, a disbelieving laugh spilling from his mouth. âYou really think thatâll do anything to me?â
Carmen rolled her eyes, although he wasnât wrong. There were many possibilities for her to get away if he were to go alone with her plan, but she was smarter than that. That would cause more of a problem for both of them, and so, she continued trying to persuade him to take her up on the offer. âI wonât. You can- you can come with me and pick âer out yourself. Just... You donât need me. Iâm no good.â She clenched her teeth together. âUnderstandable. Which is why you can come with me. If you donât want that, I can swear to you Iâll bring someone back.â She wasnât going to give up, and he wasnât making any further moves. The worst he had done so far was try to kiss her, and she had gotten past that for right now. At this very second, she wasnât being harmed in any way. âI wouldnât dare,â Carmen said, her tone mildly sarcastic and snappy. She didnât want to test him, but she was fed up with this, and she felt she could protect herself with the knife she bared before herself. She let out a small, uncomfortable laugh. She wasnât sure what he meant by that question, but it came off as a thought that he was invincible in a way, and that was what she thought to be hilarious. âOf course it will. I have to protect myself if you think youâre going to lay a hand on me.â
