when matsuda brings up the possibility of cameras, soichiro feels a flash of muted panic. as if he hasn’t already checked for cameras, as if he hasn’t already discreetly turned them off for this area. but he will reassure matsuda with a white lie. “i already checked.”

but he can’t deny that he and his coworker have similar feelings on this new task force. as efficient as l is, his methods are unorthodox, and he carries a sense of perversion. he looks like a deviant, with his hunched back and his wide eyes. soichiro doesn’t trust him, and yet it is his job to trust him. for the innocents that kira has killed. for the officers that must hunt him down. for justice, he must trust l.

a hand moves to hold matsuda’s hip with a gentle grip. a part of him is afraid that he will get distracted by something else ( though the lamplight only touches the two of them ) or someone else ( despite being totally alone ). is soichiro so desperate to be wanted, that he’d resort to such deviant behaviour?

he wonders: what would light say, if he walked in on this? when light was young, he used to look to soichiro and say, father, i want to be just like you when i grow up! and how much has soichiro done, to be sure that this ideal is never broken? how much has soichiro hidden from his son, to ensure that he will never have to worry, never have to falter. he will always have his father.

and yet his father is here, letting out a soft grunt as he moves his hips to meet matsuda’s, his hand stuttering on his hip, squeezing, just to feel a shred of humanity.

his voice comes out low, desirous in a way that doesn’t match the words he says. “i don’t know about that l. he has a strange way of investigating.”

the whole thing was terrifying. knowing that mello could have been dead, seeing the scarring on his face, his body mangled. the leather had burnt itself onto him in places. if matt hadn’t shown up when he did... if he hadn’t been watching...

well, he doesn’t want to think about that possibility, even though mello is a walking kill switch. it’s just part and parcel of falling in love with the wrong people for the wrong reasons. honestly... matt’s an idiot for leaving wammy’s to find him, but there’s nowhere else he’d rather be.

mello needs him, as much as he doesn’t want to admit it.

he carefully starts to unbutton mello’s tight clothing — honestly, he shouldn’t even be wearing this shit right now — and carefully begins to pull it off, mindful of the injuries. he’s never wanted to hurt mello. “just lean on my hand and i’ll get this shirt on. you mind just stripping down to your skivvies? i can give you a pair of my pants. whatever’s more comfortable, just not this nightmare. your legs can’t breathe with these on.” matt pauses, and his voice goes soft, almost uncertain. “i won’t... it’ll just be me that sees.”
