Adobe Flash is the tool that everybody loves to hate, but it was a major turning point in the turn-of-the-century internet. As Jason Koebler at Motherboard says, Flash “changed the way we interact with the web.” It introduced audio and video to the primarily text-based web, and the games and animations created with it were a significant part of 2000s internet culture.
But with the rise of the iPhone, Flash is on the decline – and our current web archiving tools can’t really read the files. Should we save Homestar Runner, Newgrounds games, and other Flash files for future generations?
