fandom culture has finally reached stan culture and i didn't think stan culture could get worse but it has
okay wait i'm not done so fandom has had this problem for like years now of feeling entitled to things from creators - having a ship go canon, elevating a certain side character to a main character, seeing a plotline be resolved in a certain way - and there's been this issue of people harassing writers and actors and anyone else they can find on social media when they don't get what they feel they "deserve" in return for their support of a show/movie/whatever and for a long time that hadn't quite crossed over into stan culture but it's now officially made the move and we are all worse off for it. there's this sense of entitlement now coupled with our quick-and-endless consumption way of engaging with the world that is leading people to demand more, more, more in this never-sated cycle of receiving then going on social media to complain about not having the next thing, or not having the right thing, or not having the thing they convinced themselves they were going to get despite not having any evidence that they would get it and people are creating ai art to "replace" what they're "owed" despite it being horrifically invasive and detrimental to artists and they're threatening to not support an artist anymore just because they don't have exactly what they want and it's really gross that this has now infected every aspect of engaging with art and it's an inescapable part of being an artist or loving art and idk how to stop it except to call it out when we see it
