The Other Problem with Carzekiel
Even if you take the fact that Carol belongs with Daryl out of the equation, there is still something fundamentally wrong with her relationship with Ezekiel.
On the latest episode of Talking Dead, KP’s response about the proposal was:
“Ezekiel was hoping for a yes, but the response he got was classic Carol”
“She’s never gonna make it easy”
“This is what makes life fun”
“You don’t climb a mountain because it’s easy…there’s great payoff when you finally get to the top and look over at the vista”
“He’s enjoying climbing that mountain”
Are you fucking serious? Carol is just a mountain to climb? It’s fun? She’s not making it easy?
It’s 2018. We all know about the #metoo movement. By now, we should all know how to treat women. So why is The Walking Dead, who took an abused housewife and transformed her into a strong, fearless survivor, now forcing her into a relationship with an MCP?
Because Ezekiel is one. He repeatedly disturbed Carol when he knew she wanted to be left alone. She saved his ass, and everyone else at the Kingdom, and he has the cheek to call her a coward because she didn’t want to look for Henry, when he couldn’t be bothered to search himself?
And now, when she’s (and God knows why) decided to enter into a relationship with this man, when she realizes that he is about to propose and tells him “don’t”, he ignores her and shows her a ring.
Don’t you see the problem? She said don’t, no, stop, and he ignores her and does it anyway. Doesn’t that sound like something else?
And when Carol reminds him that she had specifically asked him not propose to her, he just says “I know.”
Ok, Ezekiel, so you can remember that Carol asked you not to propose. So why do it? Why would you blatantly ignore her wishes if you “love her”?
He then, and this is the worst bit, fucking laughs.
It’s not some goddamn joke. Carol put up with Ed who verbally and physically abused her, and now she’s with a disrespectful jackass who thinks “no” means “go ahead”.
And after Ezekiel laughs, he puts his ring away and says “I’ll keep this till you’re ready”.
She’s not ready. She’s just fucking told you no, she’s not ready and she didn’t want you to ask anyway. She is not a “mountain to climb”. She is not playing hard to get. She said no. No means no, it does not mean not right now, or maybe, or just ignore me and do it anyway. No means no!
So what kind of message is The Walking Dead sending to its viewers by showing this scene and KP’s interview? That it’s ok to pester women and not take no for an answer? That women just want to be climbed, even if they don’t make it easy?
If you agree that this is wrong, please share this post. Let’s make the writers sit up and take notice. It’s not right to show this kind of shit and act like it’s ok. No means no.
