Day 1 - year 3- GRG They are growing soooo fast!
End of year Christmas fun at GRG with KW friends - Conrad, James, Alex and Jordan
A few weeks ago, the Jnr Burger borrowed this book 'DUST" from his school library - he said he borrowed it because it looked cool and scary. Little did we know the profound impact this book would make on our lives.
It talks about the plight of a child who died, too young to know the world. The illustrations are amazing, and as we turned each page we were faced with a story and an image to talk about.
I was sad, that there is still such poverty in the world, I'm also sad that we don't do more. The Jnr Burger listened to my explanation about the story and what it meant, and how sometimes, when we become sad because we don't have the coolest toy, that in fact there are children in the world who have no toys. Children who's most important desire is for food, water and shelter. Children who miss out on education and who don't know what the world is like outside of their own plight.
He thought about what I said, and instantly he said "Mama, I want to get a bag and put in it a toy and some food to send it to one of the kids in Africa" I told him that would be a great idea, and off he went and assembled the 'giftpack' above - a toy, an apple, some lollies as a treat, and water. he wrote a card explaining what everything was because he thought these kids may never have seen lego, or an apple, or lollies.
I was beside myself with joy that my little boy understood the story, and more importantly found compassion and tried to solve the problem for a child. He has since wanted us to put a pack together every week to send to Africa - I think we might start looking at donations first, otherwise the post office might get confused with all the parcels labelled:

The world

Everyone should read this book! I went out and bought it to add it to our home library.
wow
Follow this link to see KW’s blue reading group acting out ‘The Gingerbread Man’
Today in literacy groups, KW created a play to act out in front of the class about a given season.
Kindergarten in Action... with the Jnr Burger as the very dramatic "Big Bad Wolf"... and superb narrator Mackenzie!
Conrad & Benny's weekend adventure - KW
The first story we created at home! I recorded him telling a story, then he drew the pictures, then we put it all together! Love these iPad apps!
Created when the jnr burger was sick from pre-school We used his hand drawings, his voice and a bit of avid magic! Enjoy!
