GameDevEntry#10 - Swordigo

Swordigo is a side-scrolling action-adventure game in which the player can run, jump, swing their sword, and use magic spells. By defeating enemies, the player will gain experience; upon levelling up, they can choose to upgrade one of their attributes (health, attack power, or magic.) They will also find new items and equipment that will make them more powerful and grant new abilities (bombs blow up walls, lightning hits far-away switches, etc.), additionally being able to buy items from shops using money reaped from defeated enemies. The player can bring up a map at any time, which keeps track of their location and the areas they have already visited; they will also find portals that will allow them to quickly backtrack to previous areas.

From the images above, the player can upgrade his health (increasing his maximum hp), attack (increasing his overall damage (magic and physical), and magic (increasing his maximum mana). In the second image, There have three slots in the inventory, one for the sword, armor and spell. At the start of the game, you only have a wooden sword to use with an average of 4-7 attack damage. You can replace a stronger sword by defeating dungeon boss (level boss). There have also trinkets(magic orbs) that can be attach on your items, it gives buff or effect on your item. Example in your sword, if you attach fire orb/ trinket, any enemies you hit will be ignited and takes damage per second. If ice trinket is attached, any enemies you hit will be slowed. And if it is a shadow trinket, it will increase your sword damage that can make a devastating attack on the enemy.

The story of the Swordigo is about the vengeance of the main protagonist (don’t have a name ) or the player to “The Corruptors” who killed his master. On the story, in order for the player to defeat the main root of the “The Corruptors” he need a magic sword named “Mage Blade”. However, he need to find the scattered pieces/parts of the sword and reforge it. The shattered pieces of the sword can be obtained after defeating a “boss” in a dungeon or level.

GameDevEntry#9 - World Conqueror 2

World Conqueror 2 was released in 2012 by Easytech. In World Conqueror II you will be a general to accomplish a lot of important campaigns during World War II and Cold War. It’s your choice to be a part of the Axis or Allies in WWII, but only after that can Cold War scenarios be unlocked. As campaigns go on, different equipments of each nation would come on the stage.

On this game, you need to manage all your units in order to annihilate all the enemy units.The size/number and the type of units you have in every campaign is fixed. You need a wise strategy to win this game.

Every campaign have a story that really happens in the time of World War II. Like what stated in the first paragraph, it’s your choice if you are part of the Axis or Allies, however you can still play both even you have a progress on the other.

To understand the game story further, Axis Power or Alliance includes the country of Germany, Italy and Japan while Allies or Allied powers includes the Britain, France, U.S, and China. The story line on Axis campaign follows the moves or strategy of the Axis Power that really happens on the time of war, on so to the Allies campaign for the strategy of Allied Powers.

At the image above, you can see the type of units that the game have. Each type of units have their own number of movement (including the attack). The very objective of this game is not only to annihilate all the enemy units but also to conquer all the land/city/territory of the enemy. You can conquer a territory if one of your units passed or stayed on it, and of course, you can only do it if there’s no other unit there (allied or enemy units). However you can’t dispatch any units in the conquered territory unless it have a city(white circle in the image) or industry (red circle).

In every territory, you can only have 4 units stayed there. In the conquered territory, you can build city or industry that gives resources every round for you to dispatch units. You can upgrade the level of the cities and industries for you to dispatch stronger units such as rocket launcher and tanks. You can also build defenses on the conquered territory such as entrenchment(makes movement of the enemy units lessen if you attack the territory having it) and forts (can counter to the artillaries and ships).

In the game you can also upgrade the might of your general by exchanging your victory stars by some abilities/command powers . Every medal and promotion gives you a buff in every campaign you’ll played.

For me, it is a great game for players that doesn’t want a very intense game but a simple mind game.

Robbery Bob is a video game released by Chillingon on May 3, 2012 , owned by Electronic Arts. The objective of the game is to plunder different houses with Bob's thief. The player passes the level if he succeeds in finding the treasure in the house without getting caught and still manages to escape from the house. Additional points can also be obtained from other items in the house. The game has ten different chapters, each with 15 levels. The game has a total of 150 levels. Of the ten fields, seven are so called. bonus stages. Bob's features can be developed in the game's own store and can also be used to buy goods that ease looting.

On this game, you play the character of Bob. Bob is a thief that intents to change his life. However, he’s going to be forced into a few final jobs before he is allowed to escape into the criminal life.

In the start of the story, Bob was freed from jail from a strange dealer who deals with Bob to get and steal money because he had a deal. Bob robs houses and in the last second-to-last level of Suburbs, it is revealed that the strange dealer is evil as he traps Bob in a high-security mansion but Bob is able to escape. After escaping, Bob tricks the police into imprisoning the dealer while Bob gets away with all the loot he robbed for him. But the story doesn’t end there as Bob met some people that forced him to rob because of some reasons but at the end is still outsmarting them by our protagonist.

This game is fun and interesting because of the story it provides in every level. And this game also makes your logical thinking works in solving every level. When I played this game, I don’t see any flaws or any things that makes me pissed of. I finish this game after five days of installing it that makes my little brother amuse of because they are the one who introduced this game to me and I am the one first to finish this game than him.

For those who want to play this game, I recommend to invest for the ninja suit as it makes the whole game easier compare to the other items in the store.

Superstar JYPNation was a score-based, note-matching music game developed by Dalcomsoft Inc. that was released in July 2016. The game features songs by artists of the entertainment company, JYP Entertainment Corporation, such as 2PM, Suzy, JJ Project, Baek A-yeon, 15&, Got7, Day6, Twice, and formerly to artists like Park Ji-yoon, Hyuna, Wonder Girls, 2AM, and Miss A.

The concept and game play of this game is based to “Music Hero”. However, what makes it different is the “star cards”. Star cards are cards that feature the solo artists and individual group members of JYP Entertainment. These cards are earned after completing a song, although a player may purchase them from the game's store in packs. When equipped, cards enable the player to gain more points, with an even bigger advantage if the player collects all the cards that corresponds to the theme of the group or artist.

These cards can also be used to enhance/upgrade other cards to gain more bonus. In the start of your progress, you will be given 10 random cards with random card’s grade. The highest grade the card is R then lowers to S, A, B, and C.

For the player to play one song, he/she needs a “headphone” that players gradually gain after twenty minutes or after completing a challenge or mission. Challenge/mission is randomly appear on a random song. To complete a challenge, you need to achieve the score that was specified and you will gain new card, rhythm points (game currency to upgrade a card) and one headphone.

There have three difficulty in every song: Easy, Normal and Hard. And from my experience, Easy is very easy ; Normal is not normal (I can’t achieve a perfect score here) ; and Hard is very haaarrrrrddd!!! (I don’t play with this difficulty as I will only waste a headphone here, you’ll know what I mean when you try this game ^_^)

From my experience to the game, there have so many flaws in these game.

At the very start of the game after installing, you need to download the content of the game including background for every song, cards and etc. On my case, downloading all the game content took me almost 2 hrs (maybe because of the internet connection) and makes the application from 65 mb to 250 mb.

Aside from downloading all the game content, you need to download every song in the game before you can play it in any difficulty. Therefore, I recommend to play it on area having a free wifi because it really consumed a large mb of data.(Biruin nyo from 1gb of data naging 645 mb na lang yung data pagkatapos kong idownload at laruin mga 20 na kanta neto ^_^)

The game is slow. Slow in terms of the loading screens and when you press a button (e.g inventory, start etc.) it always display a loading symbol that consumes some seconds that for me is slow compare to the other app that I’m playing/using.

However I still play this game because I listen to the songs of some JYP Entertainment artists such as TWICE, GOT7 and 2PM. And I think people who will appreciate this app despite of these flaws are also JYP Entertainment’s artist fans.

Right now, my current rank on this game is Bronze II. I forgot to mention the ranking system while ago but to make it simple, you will be promoted to a new league if you are included in the top 5 player of the week. This will be determined by the sum of your top 5 highscore in every artist or group.

And also there’s an attendance everyday that gives different rewards.And one more thing, there’s also other version of this game that also created by the DalcomSoft, Superstar SMTOWN and Superstar BTS.

GameDevEntry#6 - Clash Royale

Clash Royale is a freemium mobile tower rush video game developed and published by Supercell. The game combines elements from collectible card games, tower defense, and multiplayer online battle arena. The game was released globally on March 2, 2016.

Here in Clash Royale, players are ranked by their trophy count. Players level up by gaining experience points through donating and/or upgrading cards and completing achievements. The highest possible level is level thirteen.Trophies are won or lost through multiplayer battles - a player wins a battle by destroying more towers than the opponent (each destroyed tower being represented as a 'crown'), or by destroying the opponent's King's Tower, resulting in an automatic "three-crown" victory.

When a player wins a multiplayer battle, they will obtain a 'chest' unless the player's chest slots are full. Chests takes a certain amount of time to unlock, depending on the rarity of the chest;

Silver Chests take three hours to unlock,

Golden Chests take eight hours,

Giant, Magical, and Epic Chests take 12 hours,

and Super Magical and Legendary Chests take 24 hours.

There are 12 playing arenas in total: Goblin Stadium, Bone Pit, Barbarian Bowl, P.E.K.K.A's Playhouse, Spell Valley, Builder's Workshop, Royal Arena, Frozen Peak, Jungle Arena, Hog Mountain, Electro Valley, and Legendary Arena, with each arena corresponding to a certain trophy count range.

And right now after continuing my current progress last year, my current arena is “Hog Mountain”, third to the last arena with a trophy of 3030.

Last year, I was so addicted to this game as I make my daytime a night time, and night time to daytime, literally. As the game is online and real time, a very good connection is the greatest weapon you need that I’ve only experience at night time, therefore I play at night time and sleeps at daytime (well, that time is vacation so there’s no class to attend to ^_^). I uninstalled this game when the school days came together with the other games I’m playing that are also online (mobile legends, clash of clans) because of the tight schedule on that time. And also one reason I uninstalled this game is because of the difficulty in enemy players on my current arena (as that time Hog Mountain is the last arena). Because of my frustration in every defeat to the stronger enemy and also to my schedule, I delete this game.

However, if I will rate this game from 1-10, I will give 9 for this from the concept, gameplay, graphics and continually updates. This is the best strategy game for me next to Clash of Clans.

GameDevEntry#5 - Half Life

Half Life is as a science-fiction first person shooter game that plays the role of a scientist named Gordon Freeman. Based on the story, Gordon Freeman is a MIT graduate in theoretical physics and he was recently hired by the Black Mesa Research Facility assigned in “Anomalous Materials Department” doing nuclear, subatomic and quantum research. By the way, Black Mesa Research Facility is a fictional organization that resembles or based on the Area 51, where captured extraterrestrial species is believed to be secretly studied and hid.

Turning back to the story line, the game begins by arriving of Gordon Freeman (player) to the facility to assist on an experiment conducted by the scientists there. However, the said experiment go awry that cause the whole facility partly devastated. And also because of the experiment, it created dimensional seams (portal) that can make the creatures/species from the another world --namely Xen-- to teleport in the facility.

The first main objective of the game is to escape the alien - infested facility to call a help for the injured scientists and personnel of the facility. However, the main objective has been changed at the middle of the game wherein Gordon Freeman also encounters a Special Force Unit sent by the government to eradicate the whole facility and all the people involved on it including Gordon Freeman, together with the aliens infesting there. It is to prevent the public leakage of the existence of the secret facility that conducting these kind of research and experiments. From the objective of escaping to the facility and call help, Gordon Freeman is decided to destroy the main root of the problem, it is to destroy the thing or can we said the creature who makes the dimensional seams(portal) that keeps sending creature from another world. And this creature will be, of course, found on that another world --Xen--.

What makes this game difficult for me(and makes me pissed off) is there was no player’s guide or instruction, map and even a subtitle whenever you are interacting in the AI on the game such as the scientists and facility personnel. Because of these, I can’t identify what I am gonna do or where I am going to, to get on the next chapter (stage/level). And one more thing that I annoyed off is because of the graphics of some important “little interface” in the game such as the buttons for the elevator, door, etc. It is so plain that make it looks only like a part of a wall or an equipment, to be simple, you can’t easily recognize what is clickable/interactive to not. Because of this flaws, i restart my progress up to the beginning because I don’t really know what the next thing I will do to get on the next chapter. On that time, I thought that I need a grenade to destroy a wall that I lack of as I used all of it in previous battle. So I decided to restart my whole progress and reserve a grenade for that chapter (I think it is Chapter 6 or 7). And when I got on that chapter again with a grenade in my inventory, I try to do what I think I need to do. I blow up the wall and door with the grenades but it doesn’t work, and I was like “what the fuq !!! , anong gagawin dito ?!!!”. Sa inis ko, letter e ako ng letter e sa bawat sulok ng kwartong yun (e=interaction, scientists, buttons, etc.). And then suddenly, the door opens ^_^. And I realized that there was a button there, a button that does not look like a button but only looks like a red circle in a wall.

It took me 6 days to finished this game. And honestly, I browsed some tips and what need to do for me to proceed on the next chapter because like I said there is no guide/map that will tell the player’s current objective and location. You may only know what your objectives are, through the interactions to scientist or facility personnel in the game, however the conversation doesn’t have subtitle so you need to listen carefully what these AIs will say.

Maybe the reason why this game doesn’t have this kind of guides and map is to portray a real life perspective wherein the only thing you need to survive is your capability to understand and act for a certain situation.

And last thing to say, the background sound of the game creeps me out.

Criminal Case is an adventure, hidden object and puzzle video game developed and published by Pretty Simple.

In Criminal Case, the player acts as a detective to solve murder cases, locating relevant clues at crime scenes by clicking items in the scene. Rapid clue location is rewarded with greater scores; the player earns stars that can later be used as a type of currency for performing necessary tasks such as examining evidence and interrogating suspects. At the conclusion of every case, the player is presented with all the suspects and must arrest the one who fulfills each of the criteria gained throughout the investigation. If the decision is correct, the case is solved. To unlock the next case, however, the player is also required to complete the solved case's post-indictment chapter, enabling the player to receive reports and finally move on to the succeeding case—though this procedure does not have to be undertaken in any of the tutorial cases. There are also puzzle elements and various progression and bonus features integrated into the game.

At first, I found this game boring because of three reasons;

I thought that it is a simple game where all you need to do is to find the enlisted items in every crime scene.

You need energy to play and investigate the crime scenes. 20 energy every crime scene out of 110 energy limit in your energy bar, that makes you investigate only 5 crime scenes. Then, you need to wait almost 3 hours to fully refills your energy bar as you can gain 1 energy per 2 minutes.

Cases starting from Case#3 need a day before you unlock these cases, and you need to download it using an internet connection.

These are the reasons why I deleted this game to my phone last year. At that time, I have other 13 game applications installed in my phone.But right now, Criminal Case is the only game application installed in my phone. Maybe because I also got bored to the past games I played as I realized that other games are similar to each other in terms of game play, they only differs in characters and story line.

Now, the main reasons why I’m still playing this game is because of it’s story line. Every cases have a story and it is connected to some previous cases or will be a part of future cases.

This is my current progress in the game Criminal Case ^_^.

For those who want to play: One case may be finished or solve within 3-5 days. You need to wait for how many hours before you proceed to another clues that will solve the case (30 mins - 18 hrs).

GameDevEntry#1 - Playing with Your Squad

In every game, each player have their own reaction and attitude while playing based on a certain situation. But these reaction and attitude may change if you play with the people you really want to play with. From these activity, I chose “League of Legends” as the game to be play and give a reaction whenever I play it with myself vs. I play it with my squad.

First is my reaction and attitude towards the game whenever I play it with myself. I observed that I am the kind of player which is silent and calm whenever I play alone, I barely to shout and react loudly whenever there’s an exciting or frustrating happens while playing the game. I am not also the kind of player that turned my frustration and reaction in pounding the keyboard and mouse whenever I died or play badly (these player called “rage player”). These player are one the problems in computer shop or internet cafe as they damage some of these equipment.

However, whenever I play with my friends / squad, my reaction and attitude slightly change. From being silent, I become noisy whenever I react to something. I am that kind of player that will “trashtalk” the mistakes or epic moments made by my mate in a funny way. This makes our game more enjoyable and memorable whenever we “trashtalk” each other. Playing with your mates also makes the chance of winning the game higher because of our communication and trust to each other.

GameDevEntry#2 - Card Game

Using the normal playing cards, we are instructed to create a game out of the concept or mechanics in any card game. Me and my partner created three (3) card games through the ideas we got in an anime “ Kakegurui - Compulsive Gambler” which is a 12 episode series.

The first game we created is just a simple game wherein the players only need 15-20 cards (based on the no. of players) . The game must have 3 players (at maximum) and one arbiter. Each player have 5 cards (also to the arbiter) with all the same values. The objective is to position the player’s cards in manner of the position of the arbiter’s cards that placed face down. One exact guess equivalent to 1 point, the no. of points that will decide the winner will be based on the players’ agreement.

The second game we created have the same mechanics with the game “Matching Pairs”. On this game, the whole deck of cards is needed (or two deck of cards for more difficulty). The cards are all faced down in the floor or in a wide surface that is enough to place all the cards. Each player have the chance to flip 2 cards on his turn, if the two cards is not similar ( value and color: e.g. ace of diamond and ace of heart) he will return the cards on its original position and wait for his next turn. Memorization is the key in winning on this game, players need a good memory in remembering the cards that have been flipped and its position. The winner of the game will be decided on whose the player having the highest no. of pairs collected. We name this card game “Carpe Diem” without good reason ^_^.

The third game we created is a bit complicated as it requires pen and paper to compute the points or score for each player. The game is only have 2 players and one arbiter/dealer, the two players must state what color of the deck he wants. All the cards with a color of black will be in favor or credits to the player who chose black cards and also applies to the red card player. The player will be given two cards and one of those cards will be their “bet card” and the one card will be disregard.These “bet cards” will be subtracted/added from the “future card”, the card that arbiter holds. The subtraction/addition of the value of the “bet cards” and “future card” will be based on the color of the “bet card” and the “future card”. To understand further, I made a table like structure below:

All the statement “none” is simply adding to the current scores of the player to the value of the cards they bet.

From these activity, we show the creativity and our skill in play testing. That before we make it try to our other classmate , we refined the rules and procedure of the game to be easily understand by the others.
