neither romantic or platonic but a secret third thing (they are willing to share the burden of their sins together)
(couldn't find the artist's @ so please let me know if you have it)
The Vampire Chronicles, Anne Rice // Emma, Jane Austen
- Anne Rice: Prince Lestat and the Realms of Atlantis
- Book of Ruth 1:16
not a lestat apologist not a lestat hater but a secret third thing (louis)
I think what might be lost on some people is that louis and lestat’s relationship compels because of its toxicity and not in spite of it. the appeal here is that their obsessive love for each other is simultaneously their doom and their salvation. a wretched love that condemns them to an eternity of misery because of their inability to be together but also to let the other go. the horror element of the show comes from louis’ inability to escape a toxic situation that’s making him miserable but the tragedy of it comes from how even when he does escape, the misery follows, and the loneliness with it.
“Please don’t expect me to always be good and kind and loving. There are times when I will be cold and thoughtless and hard to understand.”
