Meet Melissa Miranda! She leads Pepsi Trademark Marketing and Commercial initiatives within PepsiCo. Ms. Miranda has been with Pepsi since 2009 and is responsible of accelerating Pepsi TM revenue and equity growth in new markets. Meet June Cohen! As Executive Producer of TED Media, June Cohen was responsible for bringing the TED Conference online, ultimately growing its audience from 1000 attendees per year to more than 2 million viewers per day. In 2006, she launched TEDTalks, the online video series, followed by TED.com (2007) and the TED Open Translation Project (2009). TEDTalks have now been viewed over 1 billion times worldwide. Meet Penny Abeywardena! She is New York City’s Commissioner for International Affairs. As the head of the Mayor's Office for International Affairs, she leads the office's mission to serve as the primary liaison between the City of New York and the diplomatic community, foreign governments, the United Nations, and the U.S. Department of State. In addition to the important formal function of the office, she is working to build a global platform through which the City can promote its equity agenda and share policies and best practices globally. Meet Deborah Jackson! Deborah is the founder and CEO of Plum Alley. She is a successful entrepreneur with an extensive background in finance. Everything Jackson does furthers two goals: to champion women to become builders of companies and to increase economic investment in female entrepreneurs for a return beyond the dollar. Plum Alley is the forefront of getting capital to women entrepreneurs. Meet Satya Twena! @satyatwena She is the CEO and Creative director of Satya Twena Fine Millinery. Satya’s first entrepreneurial endeavor started in 2010 when her mother asked for a soft hat to cover her bare head after she has lost her hair due to the effects of cancer treatment. Satya continued making hats for herself, her mother and their friends out of her apartment using a jiffy steamer and her oven. Needing to fill orders, Satya’s friend, Designer, Charles Nolan introduced her to the Makins Hat Factory (one of Manhattan’s last hat factories, in the Garment District of NYC). She worked closely with them until 2013, when the 40 year old Makins Hat Factory abruptly closed. By saving Manhattan's last hat factories Satya and her team continue to preserve the legacy of the Makins Hat factory and the craft of hand made hats in America. Meet Jess Weiner! Considered this generation's "Go to Authority" on women, girls, and confidence, Jess Weiner believes that if we want to change culture, we have to work with the media makers, marketers, and influencers who create the messaging. She is a social entrepreneur and the CEO of Talk to Jess, a consulting and strategy firm that advises global brands on the issues facing today's women and girls. Her business acumen and expertise have given her an unprecedented seat at the table among key decision makers- not only to advocate meaningfully on behalf of women and girls but to drive an actual shift in the way media and entertainment engage with them. Meet LaNeice Collins! She is a speechwriter and a communications advisor for the United Nations in NY, working on issues related to the rule of law, protection of civilians, woman's rights, and humanitarian crises. Collins has also worked for the UN in Geneva and Bangkok, focusing on multilingual and cross cultural communication on issues of international human rights law, climate change, economic development and social inclusion. Prior to working for the UN, Collins was an award winning television producer. Meet Avani Patel, Founder and CEO of TrendSeeder, a fashion accelerator structured like a mini fashion focused MBA program for emerging fashion companies! She practiced Corporate and Securities law for 6 years in NYC and Chicago at various firms. She then founded Nasaani inc., a luxury fashion company. Avani also spends her time consulting with and advising numerous fashion and fashion-tech startups. Avani is a huge trendsetter and a super influential woman! Meet Melanie Schnoll Begun who leads Morgan Stanley's Philanthropy Management and exemplifies her professional work by living a life of commited action. For over 18 years she has worked with the firms wealthiest and most influential clients. In 2000, Melanie launched Morgan Stanley GIFT, the Firm's global donor advised fund, which has received over $1 billion in contributions and made in excess of $400 million in grants. The fund's unique platform offers both individuals and nonprofit institutions cutting-edge strategies for giving and fundraising. Melanie is a thought leader and an insightful and tireless advocate. Meet Joya Dass, our next Role Model and one of the first South Asian females on US mainstream television! Joya has been a business anchor for major networks for the past 15 years, incl. CNN, ABC, and Bloomberg. She can currently be seen delivering hourly reports from the floor of the New York Stock Exchange for NY1 News and CBS. She also created a women's networking initiative called "LadyDrinks", which hosts monthly events to support the female South Asian entrepreneur. Meet Rachel Gogel! Born and raised in Paris, France. Rachel graduated from the University of Pennsylvania where she majored in Graphic Design. She has substantial graphic, web and publishing experience, and has worked on a range of projects from tablet design to branding campaigns. So far, she's worked in Fashion (Diane von Furstenberg, Peter Som, Svilu), TV/Film (Sundance, USA Network, Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry documentary) and Publishing/Media (Travel + Leisure, GQ, Mashable, The New York Times). She has a strong familiarity and passion for all aspects of graphic design (cross-platform), and is eager to learn something new every day. Rachel is currently the Creative Director, Advertising/T Brand Studio at The New York Times, and an Instructor at SVA. Meet Rebecca Kantar, an Entrepreneur in Residence at GLG, Rebecca is transforming our nation’s education system to prepare all students for the future of work. Her hybrid college program and $300M venture fund will invest in student entrepreneurs who “major” in building meaningful ventures at top colleges, validating application-based learning as complimentary to theory-based coursework at elite liberal arts institutions. Rebecca is developing a new ecosystem of game-based assessments that will eventually drive change across college admissions standards, replacing tests like the SAT Subject tests and AP exams with assessments that evaluate students’ skills and progress in developing key brain functions.
