The Birth Control Rune
I just want to know how the clave even allowed the birth control rune to be created considering the toll of loss from the dark war. you’d think that they’d want shadowhunters to start bearing more children so that they can steadily build up their ranks again?
I think the Clave cared less about Shadowhunter children being born/creating more Shadowhunters, than the fact that Birth Control is viewed as a mundane medicinal practice.
I would imagine that not only is it used by sexually active Shadowhunters like Clary and Emma, but by other Shadowhunter women/young girls who struggle with reproductive health issues or hormonal imbalances, assuming that Shadowhunters can experience these kinds of ailments. (Can they? Can't they? Does anyone know?)
Also, Clary is viewed as a hero & leader in the shadow world following the Dark War, and now that she's head of the New York Institute and has ties to the Inquisitor, I would imagine that the Clave respects her immensely. While the more conservative members of the Clave disagreed with the Birth Control rune, I don't think they would have had much of a choice or that their arguments were taken seriously. Disagreeing with Clary Fairchild and Jace Lightwood Herondale is probably the most unpopular opinion one can have.
Julian Blackthorn Aesthetic
Manipulations, betrayals or whatever
It’s really bothering me the fact that some people are comparing what the Blackthorns did to kieran (not telling him about the memory loss so he could testify) and what kieran did through the books as it was the same thing. It’s okay to like characters and wanting to “defend” them, but let me remind you of some things :
Mark went to Faerie to save kieran even tho he knew that he was still not “accepted” among the rest of the shadowhuners (the awful ones ofc) and was going to get in trouble with the clave.
Julian, emma and cristina went there to help him save the guy despite not being really “fond”of him (for obvious reasons).
Julian confronted the Unseelie king to SAVE the life of a guy that betrayed his brother, tried to take him away from them AND who got Emma and him whipped (almost killing her).
Emma fought the Unseelie king’s knight, even when she was at a disadvantage, to save this guy´s life.
Cristina helped him get over the fence when they were being chased by the riders (then being attacked several times by them through the book, and because of what? saving Kieran). They carried him even when he was unconscious.
If it wasn’t for all these things, he would be DEAD by now.
And in that moment there was NO bargain made with the Seelie Queen yet, there was nothing beneficial that they could get by helping kieran, but they still risked their lives and safety for him. That’s seems pretty selfless to me.
They didn´t know about the memory loss, except for Mark, then he tells Cristina about it when they are in the seelie court taking care of him, Emma and Julian still didn´t know about it.
Their initial idea was to brought him back to the hunt, but the seelie queen made them bargain with her, she decided to make him, Kieran, her envoy, it was her idea to make him testify. They didn’t want it. Mark tells Kieran that it was going to be his choice if he accepted or not, and HE agreed to it. Not them.
When they arrived at the London Institute it’s when most of them are informed about kieran´s memory loss and we constantly see Mark feeling really bad about having to lie, he tried to talk to him many times and make him realize that they needed some time to rethink about their relationship, but kieran was the one who didn´t want to listen, it wasn´t like Mark was acting all lovey dovey with him pretending everything was okay between them. Also, it’s important to remember that there is much more at stake than the blackthorns well-being with kieran´s testimony, there´s the downworlders safety too (especially faeries), the Seelie Queen´s plan to kill the Unseelie king (which is obviously beneficial to kieran since the king wants him dead), AND, the most important thing, the end of the Cold Peace. By not telling him the “truth” about the situation and what he did, he gained the protection of the shadowhunters, protection that he didn´t deserve (I assume there´s no need to explain why) he gained not to own and suffer for the consequences of his previous acts, he gained time to make up for the things he did (even tho at the end he still didn´t make up for anything), etc. so, If we are being honest, we can admit that he benefited the most from all of this. He was not doing them a favour out of kindness, he was doing what he agreed to do in the Seelie Court, he was doing what, in some way, owed to the blackthorns, and yet after all that the sahdowhunters NEVER pushed or pressured him to it. Cristina never wanted to “order” him to do something, even tho she could have done it. Mark tells him that he didn´t have to testify if he didn´t want it, knowing that it would signify not only being threatened by the Unseelie king, but by The Clave and now the Seelie Queen too for breaking their deal… How manipulative of them, right?
And finally, at the end of the book when it´s supposed that kieran has to testify and accomplish his “task” (and the reason he was in the book for) guess what happened? He didn´t do it. Nothing. At all (and cc knew from the beginning that he would not be able to make it, so why include him if his prescence in the book was going to be pointless? if he was not going to, sort of, pay his debt to the blackthorns? just to further the triad arc?), But somehow, he still ended up protected by the shadowhunters and taken to the Scholomance. So, excuse me, if I think that comparing the blackthorn´s actions and kieran´s ones, that were mostly for his personal benefit and interest, a huge, HUGE, ~reach~.
YES and the fact that they were willing to risk their lives to save Kieran in Faerie even though they hadn't forgiven him for the whipping which was obviously extremely traumatic...
AND the fact that even Kieran addressed/accepted that Julian and Emma hadn't forgiven him yet...
Can we as a fandom PLEASE stop pretending that there isn't a problem/tension between Kieran and the Blackthorns that is valid? It's great that Kieran was willing to testify on the Blackthorns behalf as the Seelie Queen's envoy (even though he didn't have a choice) and that he showed loyalty to the Blackthorns throughout Lord of Shadows.... but Emma and Jules still have not forgotten his betrayal, and they should not be criticized for not having forgiven him.

livvy & dru
oh god but imagine the relationship that livvy and dru could’ve had like -livvy, the more conventionally pretty, helping dru accept her body and literally destroying anyone who made snide comments about it -dru opening up to her about how she feels excluded from the older blackthorns and livvy making a point to include her too in her and Ty’s games rather than only Kit -babysitting tavvy together -being close in age talking about boys and braiding hair bc neither could have that sort of relationship with ty or tavvy or Julian or mark or Helen or Emma -dru loving to watch horror movies with her bc livvy always laughed at the goriest parts -spying on kit and ty talking to each other from the rafters - familiarizing themselves with Helen again and becoming the female blackthorns trio -the two of them going on missions together when kit and ty were elsewhere -bonding and getting to know each other like I don’t think they ever did and now never will
((I’ll add more to this as I get more emotional))

Livvy stared at Diego for most of the meal, probably thinking about their plan to stop Zara, but it was clearly making Diego nervous, since he tried twice to cut his steak with his spoon.

We didn't deserve Livia Blackthorn.
yay! finished :)
Poor Will and Emma, both suffering for the ones they love; hopefully Emma’s struggles will pay off as well as Will’s did;)
miap*pkin: I think it is unrealistic for that many LBGTQ+ people to be in the same place in a story.
Thanks for the heads-up. Once you decide how many LBGTQ+ people are realistically allowed to be in the same place at the same time, please let me know. Is it more than three? Less than six? Is the situation affected by major celestial events or the presence of Ian McKellen? If you could also let me know how many straight people can be in the same place at the same time — oh, an infinite amount? Most of them should be straight? Ideally all of them, you know, like in most books?
I’ll make a note.
