best left forgotten || Chris & Carter
It was nice to be ble to sit down with Carter again - even though he had forced Chris out of work. It took a lot now a days to get her out of the station, she felt better there than anywhere else especially to get her mind off all the drama that was happening around her. Her tongue glided her along her lips, shaking her head as she turned her head over towards Carter.
The two of them had been so busy lately that they hadn’t had time to really talk unless it was in a text message but a part of her was hesitant on letting him him especially because he honestly didn’t need to worry about her the way everyone else was worrying about her. She laughed, shaking her head at his words.
“The hair could mean everything - do you see how old he is now? Come on,” she laughed, turning her head over towards him. “How you been?”
Even though he knew there was a lot going on that Chris and Gannon hadn’t told him about, it was nice to just hang out with his sister. He was never the type to make her talk about things, if she wanted him to know she would tell him herself. So today wasn’t about getting anything out of her, it was about some quality time and getting her mind off whatever was bothering her.
Carter shook his head, chuckling. “My question is, why isn’t Chewie like, all grey?” he pointed out. Turning to look at her as they walked, Carter grinned. “Me? I’m great. Chris, I’m getting married. Everything is perfect.” He was still walking on air over the proposal, it was like nothing could touch him.
Or so he thought. He had no idea that something so small could bring him crashing down all over again. As they walked down the sidewalk, a car nearby must have backfired, letting out a loud bang that resonated since the street wasn’t that busy. To Carter, that bang was all it took, it sounded just like a gunshot and the memories that sound dredged up were ones Carter had been avoiding dealing with. His body locked up, his mind going back to that night, how he looked up from the floor with his vision swimming from hitting his head, to see Chris fire her gun and shoot their attacker in the head. Carter blinked, and suddenly he couldn’t breathe. “He’s dead...he’s dead.”
