Yeah, I know it looks bad for my case. I wasn’t in the best state when I wrote my original reply. I’m sorry.Isn’t Keith just one of the Paladins, though? And I did say may be sixteen or seventeen, because I know at least one of the other Paladins is given as either sixteen or seventeen. I didn’t assume you shipped any of that. What I was just trying to say, the core of what I was saying, is that when antis get especially flared up over age gaps/other unhealthy power imbalances, there are often valid reasons. Yes, a lot of antis are shitty. I just don’t think that ones who just have an issue with the grown adult being shipped with the teenagers are probably mostly acting on baseless malice. I won’t talk down on you because we might just be the same or similar age, but I’ve spent years being a “What about peace and politeness?” fan. The thing is that ignoring or dismissing the ones who do feel harmed or hurt by inherently problematic media (I recognize your experiences but there are, again, other victims who feel really offended by stuff like this) because they aren’t perfectly civil frequently leads to victims getting silenced or fandom being an unsafe space for them and adults being complicit in a culture that fails to protect teenagers from predators. That’s from my experience, and I’ve seen a lot of anti-Sh@ladin people and identify the same drive. I’ve probably quickly gone past the point of redemption in the V/ltron fandom circles so I don’t know why I even answer. I think it’s because I really do not think that I deserve to go down in some asshole hall of fame for being yet another young stupid firebrand. I was acting out from a sincere place of pain and I got my trauma minimized (“disgust”; “How precious.”).The OP I was reacting to made valid points. as a fellow survivor, i completely understand where you’re coming from. but how does shipping ships such as shaladin widely harm children? do you mean 10yo or 15yo? major difference. what does more harm is telling teenager shippers that their ship is a pedo ship, when really its just a 17yo and a 24yo. or telling them they are a pedo. what actually helps is informing them how to recognize that predators, that they aren’t terrible for shipping what they do, and giving them coping techniques.

Safe Space for Children

You know, I was an anti once, a very hateful one, but I realized that my role did more harm than good. And I’ll write this out with clean English.

I’m addressing my confusion about the goals of antis. “We’re trying to make a safe space for children to avoid ‘pedophilic’ content”. What do you mean. Weird concern but hear me out.

First of all, antis were the one who started the whole fuss. Shaladins merely shipped something, and someone with so-called morals said “Shaladin is pedophilia because Shiro is a grown ass man and the rest of the paladins are just children!”. The one who made a ruckus about it were antis. They were the ones to point out Shaladins and their ships.

Relating to this, antis can defend themselves by saying “I have morals, that’s why I don’t ship Shaladin. You do, so you’re doing something immoral.” What do you mean, antis? Did you never know what your fellow antis said? Harassing people? Send death threats? Call people ‘pedophiles’ when they’re probably just 15?

This is why I don’t think that antis should concern that much about Shaladin ships. Some children probably still have “common sense” that Shaladin is — according to their opinion — wrong. They still can get away from the “icky” stuff and block things they hate. Antis can tell them more about the block button, the tag blacklist, etc. This is allowed, of course. Some content just isn’t for all eyes and we should accept that.

I’m saying that the main concern of antis should be about what they’ve been doing. Especially the toxic ones. The people who harassed VAs and other people. Children normalize that easier than the so-called “nasty Shaladin”. And soon, they follow what the toxic antis say and do. I don’t think that those toxic people would tell children to not do so. The more people who join their “alliance”, the better.

And soon those little kids they mention all the time will be influenced by how they act. The antis will think it’s okay, since those kids are a part of the community, which thinks that Shaladins should be eradicated and morals should be replenished.

Let’s face it — the way we communicate to people, the way we talk to them in real life and on the Internet is, undeniably, influenced by the people we meet and befriend.

No hiding now, antis. There are priorities. I don’t care about you teaching children about those “nasty Shaladin ships which is mentally abusive and very unhealthy”. What I care about is if you can just take a break and teach yourselves how to be more mature. See things from other people’s shoes.

If you’re still stubborn, please don’t be part of this community. You’ll do more harm than good. You’ll be loathed by many. Some people are just beyond help, I guess.

I’m seventeen, a minor. I hope this grants me even a bit of patience. I was sexually assaulted several times when I was in elementary school. “Several” might not sound like a lot, but when a high school student is trapping you and growling at you to give him more than he’s forcibly taking, once is more than enough.

I know little about this series, apart from the Klance, apart from the anti-Shaladin business. No, I’ve never sent death threats or harassed anyone over ships that triggered me; but there were plenty.

I felt this way at fourteen, OP. The burden of my trauma haunted me since I was first assaulted. It doesn’t end. I felt anger and misery at fifteen. Flashbacks at fourteen and fifteen and sixteen. Until now.

Your ships are not harmless. They are violent. I didn’t know it when Zendaya was 14, Bella Thorne was 13, and I was 10 and stumbling upon smutty fanfiction of them written by adults. I thought I was homophobic. People like you made me feel I was simply ignorant or intolerant for not liking what I found.

There are some antis who are truly toxic, but this narrative you’re presenting is manipulative. Are most antis who speak out against pedophilic ships really like this? Blindly targeting minors? Harassing innocent cast members? The majority? Is that something the majority of us do?

Or for you, is all anger the same? Because people like us have the right to be angry. I have, for what felt like infinite periods of time, tried to contain my anger, but all it’s done to me is make me implode.

Widespread shipping like this has never, ever, ever been harmless to children. The children should be protected, and the adults should be stopped. You should know better.

I said the toxic antis are shitty. I didn't defend them. I found this post on @theassholeantiarchive because I wanted to educate myself on the rapist, Ollie. I know that Shaladin = shipping teenagers with an adult. I get triggered by any ship with such age gaps, and I know — I damn well know — I am not the only one.

I didn't say no one could enjoy this stuff. I didn't say everyone else's opinion is invalid. I said that adults shipping teenager/adult or teenager/teenager ships (if sexualised) widespread harms children.

Don't minimise how I react. I wish trauma was just disgust. I really do.
