“Okay, so, I guess I’m taking her to target later to buy black shorts and fishnets.” Whatever would help her grandchild shed some of the layers in the god forsaken heat. “I don’t mind the black, but I draw the lines at letting her get corsets and chains. She’s still a child.” Evie did her best to be supportive, but their were some instances where she had to be the bad cop. “Ouch…” Evie’s face scrunched up in discontent as she reached over to pat cassidy’s arm. “I’m sorry honey. I know it hurts, but I’m sure he’ll come around.. He’s been through a lot, and he’s at that age..” Evie had been there with Danny, though Aiden’s issues seemed to be more with trusting that his dad would stay clean and not mess up again. Evie hated how strained they were. “I’ll see if I can get them to stop by for a few minutes.” Evie could usually convince Aiden if she played the sad grandma card, or mentioned Lily. “What?? I’m just.. making sure he knows how to be safe. Clearly the talk Jack gave you didn’t sink in so..” Evie threw her hands up. “ i’m glad Jordan talked to him, maybe I should’ve talk to you..”
“I think your hair looks cute when it’s curly, I bet Marcia would find it cute too.” She winked. “As much as theI adore uncle Danny, I’m sure they prefer you getting out there with them sometimes too. ” She scolded him lightly, wishing he would get out there a little more. “I understand, I’m just saying I’d like to see more of her. You should bring her to Sunday dinners.” She innocently remarked, ignoring his pleas not to overdo it. “How is giving her a little card and a small gift over doing- it?” Evie scoffed. “It’s called being polite, sweetheart. I only want her to feel welcome.” She shrugged, a smile forming when Lily’s toy began to sing again after she’d replaced a couple of wires. “Of course, honey. I want this to work out for you, after everything you’ve been through with Riley, you deserve a good woman. Lily seems to really like Marcia, she talks about her a lot.” She smiled triumphantly when the toy began to sing again. “Well, no wonder it wasn’t working. The wiring was shot, They connected it wrong and it blew., Who’s approving these things to leave the factory?”
“Do what you want, hopefully she will go with you and pick out a few things.” Cassidy shrugged, “mom, she isn’t a child anymore. She is thirteen and in junior high. I think she is going to wear what she wants.” He wasn’t exactly thrilled, but he knew better than to tell a young woman what she could and could not wear within reason. If she wanted chains and corsets, he didn’t see an issue with it. Sucking in a breath of air, he nodded. “It is rough.” And, he knew it was his fault. Long ago, he broke that trust with his son and it was hard to fix. “Sounds good.” Not that he thought Aiden would fall for it, but maybe he would get lucky if the sixteen year old dropped by. Cassidy turned to her about the mention of the talk not working on him and gave an unamused expression.
Cassidy rolled his eyes, “mom stop.” Of course, he loved it when his mother or well anyone complimented him. “I get out there on occasion, but I’m on my feet all day at the diner and I got your Irish side skin where I freckle and burn easily.” He said laying down the excuses as to why he wanted to remain seated. “Maybe, we will see. I don’t want to scare her off.” He shrugged, “I dunno.” It was hard making excuses, he wasn’t trying to keep Marcia from the family. Mostly, he was nervous things about his past would be brought up. Even though Marcia knew he was an addict, it still scared him that she could learn some of the stories and be completely turned off by him. He softly smiled, “Lily really likes her and she is super good with her. They watch Disney movies and play out scenes. It is actually adorable.” It was always amusing to watch his mother at work, “I dunno mom. At least we got you to fix it.”
