Some of my favourite passages from Milk and Honey 🐝
“Being in love is a good thing, but it is not the best thing. There are many things below it, but there are also things above it. You cannot make it the basis of a whole life. It is a noble feeling, but it is still a feeling. Now no feeling can be relied on to last in its full intensity, or even to last at all. Knowledge can last, principles can last, habits can last; but feelings come and go.”
— C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity (via goodreadss)
John 3:16-21
16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed.21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.

whenever you don’t feel motivated to work, just imagine your future self. if you do the work when you’re supposed to, your future self will be calm, collected and be able to keep working at a steady rate (and eventually finish the task at hand, stress-free). if you don’t do the work when you’re supposed to, your future self will be rushing around, trying to complete things they should have done before, and overly anxious and stressed. be kind to your future self and do the work now.
remember: discipline is just empathy with your future self.
Im in love
I miss you, Jesus. I am sorry I’ve been doing things on my own again without thinking about you. Help my ungodliness and help me focus on you. Re-work my heart so that you become its center, now and forevermore. Amen.
“Don’t just read the Bible. The devil knows the Bible by heart. He used it against Jesus. Rather, linger in God’s word, love the truth, and plead with him to open the eyes of your heart.”
— John Piper
Exactly.
“Immediately He made His disciples get into the boat and go ahead of Him to the other side, to Bethsaida, while He dismissed the crowd.”

Mark 6:45 HCSB
We confuse getting what we want with spiritual success. But spiritual success is obedience to Jesus when he commands. There is a fear that if we do everything He commands that we will not really be happy. But the lie is to believe we are living if we get what we want even if it’s not what he wants for us. Jesus said he came to help us really live. Obedience is the key that opens up that rich spiritual life.
