@cascadiian ♡ for a mr. green oak !
it isn’t often that he gets to visit the gym leaders back in kanto, not when he’s traveling the world so much. there are many pokemon out there for him to see ——— almost too many, and he can’t possibly have all the time to research on each one of them. but kanto is his HOME, the one place he can visit over and over to rid himself of the homesickness.
there’s one gym leader in particular that he wants to check up on today. he often calls her MERMAID, if he’s in a good mood, or QWILFISH, if he’s looking to annoy her. unfortunately, right now, he has this massive urge to annoy her.
❝ hey, QWILFISH, you’ll get a stroke swimming under this heat, ❞ he snickers out, once he’s reached the edge of the pool, careful not to accidentally slide into the water. he’s too lazy to change clothes, and being soaked isn’t exactly under his agenda right now. ❝ have some water before you faint, little mermaid, or you’re going to leave me worried. ❞
with a grin, he hands her a bottle of water he bought before he arrived at the gym. ❝ how’s life treating ya, misty ? good, i hope. are you taking a vacation every now and then ? you look a little stressed. are those WRINKLES i see ? ❞
She was busy. Of course she was, she was a gym leader. The morning was filled with back to back battles. New trainers seemed to be popping out of the woodwork left and right, one right after the other. Usually, Misty didn’t mind because it kept her occupied and perfectly distracted, but today... well, they created some technical difficulties in the gym. After the last battle (a particularly fierce trainer with an all electric team), the lights in the pool had cracked, and thus created an unsafe arena. So now she had to fix them before the next battle.
Breaking the surface after being underwater for way too long, Misty took in the biggest breath she’d ever taken before before swimming to the edge of the pool and resting her arms on the deck. She was feeling lightheaded, but at least she was done. For a minute, all she could hear was the water moving gently behind her in the wake she’d left as she’d surfaced. It was nice. It was quiet. It was peaceful, but then. But then.
She could feel her eye physically twitch --- she almost didn’t want to turn around.
It wasn’t so much that it was him, just the words coming out of his mouth. She watched him through narrowed eyes as he approached oh so nonchalantly. The redhead stared up at Green holding out a bottle of water.
“Tch, thanks.” She took the water from him, uncapping it and practically inhaling the liquid. “We can’t all be as carefree as you, Green.”
Misty crushed the bottle --- easier to recycle --- and popped herself out of the pool, perching right on the edge. Legs still dangled in the water as she leaned back on her hands.
“I’ll let those comments slide just because I haven’t seen you in a minute. What have you been up to, kid?”
