Cheer reflection
Starting cheer and being the captain of the squad has taught me responsibility (achieving learning outcome 7 as I had to be held accountable for my own actions and choices) and compromise, having worked with people of different skill levels, helping me achieve the learning outcomes 1 and 2, as I developed new skills and found areas of personal growth. Since I also continued it to the next year, it showed my commitment and perseverance, which shows the learning outcome 4. Furthermore, it aided in giving me a healthier and more active lifestyle, whilst having fun and being creative with it. It was also the first time I designed clothes before, which was a challenge as I had to work with so many people and get all their opinions (showing learning outcome 5, for working collaboratively) for , but it all worked out in the end and it was an experience I loved and would definitely want to pursue in the future.
SFX reflection
I’ve definitely grown as an amateur SFX make up artist. I’m improved my use of face paint and have started to play around with professional SFX products. I’ve also become more creative in terms of the looks I do, and am able to create new characters as opposed to just copying an existing one. This aided in me achieving both learning outcomes 1 and 2, as I grew as an artist and discovered my own strengths and weaknesses through the learning trail-and-error process.
Winston reflection
Winston has been a great experience. It’s given me more opportunities to creatively express my thoughts through writing and aided me in practicing my photoshop skills, which makes me achieve both learning outcomes 1 and 2 as I found rooms for development and improved my skills, whilst also discovering where my strengths and weaknesses lie. I’ve been doing Winston for 3 years now, which shows my commitment to the activity and therefore achieving learning outcome 4. Furthermore, it pushed my creative limits through the layouting of the issues, and also helped me in becoming less of a creative control freak, and to collaborate with other workers and to find a compromise for all issues, which is learning outcome 5 of working collaboratively. Moreover, having to consider ethical global issues in terms of writing articles and the appropriateness of the graphics, finding a balance of both fun and sensitivity to certain issues, helps me achieve learning outcome 7.
Head of VPA reflection
Being head of VPA has taught me so much. It’s definitely given me more opportunities to collaborate with others (showing learning outcome 5) and to be more involved with the arts. It made me a better leader, from having to lead the prefects, and has also strengthened by bond with the other VPA heads because of all the work and time we’ve spent together. It’s also taught me responsibility, and how sometimes you can’t always be the “good cop” because you have to do what’s right and what’s for the benefit of everyone (i learned this mostly through giving out strikes and having to fire some prefects for not doing their duties numerous times), achieving learning outcomes 1 and 2, as I discovered strengths and weaknesses as well as developed new skills. Planning new events also helped in making me in achieving learning outcome 3, as it gave me opportunities to initiate experiences for both myself and the community. Having done this for almost over a year, it shows my commitment to the role, and therefore achieving learning outcome 4. Finally, being held accountable for my own actions and finding the most ethical way to create new events, spread out the prefect duties fairly, and in the promotion of the events, I’ve achieved learning outcome 7. It’s definitely been stressful, but it’s been one of the most rewarding experiences in my high school life.
