“So, you sure can handle yourself?”
“Oh, I’ll manage.”

✵ when the dust finally settled and the uneasiness faded from the air, cass genuinely had no idea anything even happened. magic folk moving into the area meant more weird events happened and who was she to question something that seemed sooooo harmless. guess you could say the jokes on her because it isn’t until she’s accidentally taking her work locker off the hinge that she realizes maybe things are completely fine in rome pines after all.
✵ she isn’t exactly sure how to take her enhanced strength, and honestly is very concerned about hurting someone accidentally and for someone who would rather choke than call out of work- she does. multiple days in a row.
✵ mostly because a) she doesn’t know how to get it under control and one second she’ll think things are fine and the next she’s yanking the handle off the fridge and b) despite her absolutely lack of care for people, if she were to accidentally hurt someone because she couldn’t control her own body she’d be completely devastated.

“ AH – SO YOU walk here a lot, i suppose ? “, the young man reasoned, still smiling warmly at her. when she shared the book she had been reading, helia nodded slowly. “ i don’t think i read that one – what is it about ? “, he wondered, genuinely interested. “ oh – just, this. “, the guy smiled as he pointed at the scenery in front of them.
sometimes it really blew her mind that strangers were just nice. she nodded a bit as she gave him a small smile, “i jog through here a lot and they’re pretty safe trails and they’re beautiful at any timing” she said before looking down at the book, trying to find the right words to describe it. “very dystopian layout, basically books are banned and these people go around burning books they find to basically prevent people from having their own, i recommend it if you enjoy reading” cass smiled at him again as she looked between the paper and their surroundings, “this is seriously incredible, you’ve got serious art skill.”

“ A THORN IN your side is a talent to me. “, he teased, laughing. there was nothing more fun to him than riling up the people who already thought he was annoying – like cassandra. flynn did not plan on giving the necklace if the waiter would answer negatively – he tried, right ? – but of course cassandra had to chime in. the man groaned, rolling his eyes as he took out the necklace upon hearing her elbow nudge him. “ if you cannot find the owner – i’ll just keep it safe, alright ? “, the man tried to do damange control, offering the guy a charming smile. but the waiter simply took the necklace, said he would find the owner and disappeared agian, leaving flynn to sigh deeply. “ happy now ? “.
it was hard to hide the smug feeling that was bubbling up, she was completely aware he defiantly wasn’t happy- but that only made her more pleased. when the necklace was safely in the waiters hands she felt a bit of the stress she felt building leave her, and she beamed at flynn when he finally addressed her. “this is the happiest you’ve ever made me and that should be rewarding enough” she teased before giving him a small smile. “don’t worry, won’t tell anyone you did a good deed today. wouldn’t want to ruin all your street cred”

“yeah, me too,” violet replied as she nodded in agreement. why she thought things would change was beyond her. apparently she did not learn from her experiences. “well, at least midnight will be here soon and we can leave.” she could at least say she stayed till the ball dropped, but thinking of the time did make her pull out her phone to check, having her own plans in mind. “so… you came alone?,” she asked, brows lifting as she looked toward the woman, sort of wondering aloud.
“parties are never different, so i’m never exactly sure why i try” she confessed as she watched the other. they seemed to connect in an outsider way, and it was nice to hear someone else shared the same thought process as her. cass raised an eyebrow at the other girl as she laughed a bit, “always, you come alone you can leave whenever. what about you?”

a sigh leaves megara’s lips when cass in uncooperative, take a few steps closer. “right. well… i guess i’ll have to look into this on my own, then. however…,” her brows lifted, eyes one the other woman, “you have heard the saying ‘if you scratch my back, i’ll scratch yours’ right? just… food for thought.” megara’s ex was of the unsavory crowd, she even had her own bounds to some bad people ( though no one knew of that arrangement ), and she planned on using these facts to her advantage. though she didn’t particularly want to work with cassandra, it wouldn’t hurt to have someone with access to more information on her side.
as meg continued on cass couldn’t stop the blank stare she gave the other girl, and couldn’t stop herself from huffing out a laugh as she laid out the conditions. she nodded a bit before using her finger to draw the other brunette closer to her. “meg” she started softly before smiling, “absolutely not i could lose my job”. sharing things before they were ready to be out was one of those things she was always taught was wrong. “besides, there isn’t much to tell yet, so even if i wanted to share some big grand scoop, i have nothing”

“oh, good to know!” danny was new to this area, not really sure what was around here and still learning his way around, but he appreciated the idea. “bet they will have something. thanks!” he took her hand with a smile, “officer cass,” he said back, “nice to meet you. i’m danny. i uh.. normally am not this inept, i swear.”
the brunette gave him a small smile as he talked, growing up she memorized where everything was just so she could always know where she was, and years later it was finally paying off. “hey i’m off duty” she pointed out gesturing for him to follow her. “nice to meet you, it’s okay, happens to the best of us sometimes”

“I didn’t say you were,” Tessa replied, more confused after all. The dark haired girl seemed to be sort of talking circles around herself i her exhausted stupor, which Tessa did sort of understand. One too many all-nighters at the new job would do that to anyone, “You’ve heard right. But whatever, it’s better than getting stuck in some dead-end job for the rest of my life. At least there’s some variety,” They shrugged, making an effort to be nicer, “Where do you work?”
the brunette rubbed her temple softly, knowing full well her lack of sleep was making her grumpier and incoherent. she nodded a bit in understanding, she remembers the coffee runs she’d do for the other officers when she first started. “i’m an police officer, i just did an overnight so that’s why i’m all..” she trailed off waving her hands a bit, “disorientated. do you like the company you intern for? I know that can make a giant difference”

CASSANDRA’S QUESTION CAUSED a loud laugh to fall from flynn’s lips. he sure took pride in it – at least when cass was around. “ it’s a talent. “, was the man’s simple reply, offering her a wink. watching how the waiter was making his way over to them, flynn simply rolled his eyes at her comment – he couldn’t believe she had actually gotten him to give up a fancy piece of jewelry. he could have made good money off this. “ right – that’s exactly what i was waiting for. to be someone’s hero. “, he mumbled with clear sarcasm in his voice. “ hey – do you per chance know whether someone has lost some jewelry ? any complaints ? “, he asked the waiter as soon as he had joined them.
“it’s a thorn in my side, not a talent” she mumbled as she flipped him off as he winked at her. when the waiter came over and actually was in ear shot she smiled at him, making sure all irritation had vanished from her. “he just found this necklace and wanted to make sure it found it’s owner” cass said as she gave flynn a giant smile before nudging him with her elbow, “give him the necklace” she said through gritted teeth, as her smile never faded. she knew full well that if no one did report it, he’d surely try to keep it.

WHEN THE GIRL agreed, helia simply nodded and smiled, eyes still fixed on her. “ these moments are the best to come down to the park, if you want to find some peace. not too many people are around. “, he gave away his little secret, regardless of whether she already was aware herself or not. “ what are you reading ? “, the young man continued, eyes falling to the book in her hands.
cass smiled softly as she nodded in agreement, “theres a couple paths and if you like walking they’re serene” she said as she looked down at her book, “Fahrenheit 451, brutal classic but i’ve loved it for years” she admitted before looking down at his own book. “what are you drawing?”

“ THAT WOULD BE correct. “, flynn replied, nodding once firmly before offering cassandra a charming smile, as if she had just guessed something cute about him. when she reminded him that all the bystanders were the sole reason for her not hitting him, flynn could not help but laugh amusedly, head rolling back in his neck as he did so. “ oh – i know. i should make some good use of the situation then, shouldn’t i ? “, he teased her, eyebrow raising him in a challenging number. as she kept pressing on, flynn let out a loud groan, head falling back as he closed his eyes. “ fine ! f i n e. but i’m not doing this for you and definitely not for whoever this necklace belongs to – i’m doing this for myself, because i know you won’t stop complaining about it. “, he groaned as he motioned for one of the waiters to come over.
cass hated how absolutely smug he always was, but she knew it was all part of the ‘charm’ he spoke highly about. “how did you grow to be so annoying?” she asked as he laughed, sending a glare his way. looking around the party, she tried to see if maybe she could spot the person, maybe someone would be freaking out and would be noticeable. her own smug smile appear on her lips as she watched him wave over a waiter, “look at you, so nice, bet the lady you return this to will just fawn over how heroic you are” she teased as she watched the waiter shuffle over to them.

when told not to start, a chuckle left max’s lips, rolling his eyes in a playful manner. “are you sure? cause it’s not a good look for us, having you walking around, practically running people over.” of course, he was still teasing, despite the serious facade he put on. “at least sit for a bit, enjoy your coffee and pastry with me,” he offered, motioning to an empty table. “give the caffeine a chance to kick in a bit.”
taking a bit from her scone she gave the man a small glare, “you’re annoying in the morning” she said before as she looked at the empty table. cass knew he was just teasing her and she was almost too tired to care at this point, “fine, i’ll sit down but you tell no one i’m a mess when im exhausted i’ll never recover from the gossip at the station” she said gesturing for them to take a seat, as she nursed her coffee close to her. “one normally doesn’t wake me up, this is just normally enough for me to walk home so i can make another pot”

normally, drug busts happened more so in the bald mountain area. rome pines wasn’t the type of place for things like that to be happening anywhere. that’s why when megara got wind of it happening near poppy fields, she quickly made her way over there to see what she could snoop up. seeing cassandra there, megara knew this could either work in her favor or it could crash and burn; she chose to believe the former. “any leads officer?,” she asked, walking over to the woman, smirk on her face. “none of these fancy schmancy people are going to the bad parts of town for drugs. gotta be local to the area,” she mused aloud, hoping to bait cassandra into talking to her more. ( @cass-gothel )
things this big never happened around here, and she’d never admit it but she was genuinely excited. this was the part of the job she enjoyed so much, experiencing the unexpected, and as she watched the detectives come in and out of the building, each time holding more and more evidence, she wanted nothing more than to join them. standing by the police tape, she was watching the crowd, someone around here had to know more than they were letting on. she tried not to outwardly groan as she heard the familiar voice come up next to her. raising an eyebrow at the other she couldn’t stop her eyes from rolling, of course meg would be here. “you know i can’t discuss things regarding an ongoing investigation” she mused as she rubbed her temple a bit. “you’ll find out just like the rest of the community when they do a press conference.”

IT WAS A beautiful day – the sun was high up in the air, her warmth ( all though a little weak due to the season ) comforting, the sky a bright shade of blue that filled whoever was looking up at it with a positive mindset, helia was convinced of it. he was seated on one of the benches in the park, one of his favorite places, sketchbook on his legs as he was trying to capture the way the sun shined through the trees, falling on the lake in a perfect angle. “ don’t you love days like these ? “, the young man wondered at the person sitting next to him, turning his head to offer them a smile. “ the sun is shining, the sky is blue, the park is calm… “. { @fantasiafallsstarters }
her days off were precious to her, as much as she loved working, a day off with nice weather only happened so randomly- she had to enjoy it while she could. her worn out book sat in her lap as she let the sun warm her skin, she never grew out of her trying to learn everything phase from school and it was nice to be able to take the time to read like she used to. her head snapped up as the other talked to her, and she gave the other man a small smile as she nodded in agreement. “yeah it’s peaceful here, it’s beautiful”

when cassandra paused before taking violet’s hand, vi could feel her cheeks burn a little, easing when she wasn’t left there like an idiot. “cass. cool,” she said with a nod, her eyes moving back to watch the crowd in front of them. “we can regret our life’s decisions together,” vi added with a laugh, taking another sip of her drink. it was nice to know she wasn’t alone in finding the party a bust.
the brunette gave the other girl an easier smile as her own eyes shifted to the crowd in front of them. she was glad violet and her were both feeling the same, a lot of the time she felt like she was the only one miserable at an event and it was comforting to know others felt the same. “every event i attend i always hope i feel different but i always just feel out of place and regret my choices” cass said as she laughed a bit taking another sip of her drink.

Tessa just looked at the dark haired girl with a blank, yet calculating expression. Was she really just… handing them money? Her logic seemed flawed, “I’m a person you don’t even know,” They replied, staring down at the ten dollar bill being offered. On a second thought though, it was wrong to turn down a gift, so the temp took the money cautiously, “You would tell me if his was counterfeit, right?” They raised an eyebrow, before noting the line had moved up one person, so they could each take a step closer, “Jeez, I should let people bump into me more often if they’re all gonna give me cash. What am I even temping for?”
“yeah i’m aware with what i’m doing, i’m exhausted not stupid” she said giving a blank stare back at them. “i don’t want to buy the rest of your office coffee, and i bumped into you so you get the tenner” she said shrugging as she shifted in line with the other, why did there always have to be a line? “its not fake, promise” cass said as she smiled at them. “you’re a temp? i wish you luck, i always hear those jobs kinda stink”
