this episode is honestly just insane beginning-to-end for everyone. sam inventing a reverse demon exorcism spell by saying it backwards and killing people with thee hammer of thor. linda tran punching crowley and using the power of tax law on demons and also you think this is her first tattoo? dean’s a literal serial killer now but we never talk about it. an angel in a wiener hut outfit drops the most profound line every said about castiel. kevin tries to explain why he’s been gone for the past year with “have you ever seen The Exorcist?” the angels & demons bidding alaska, the mona lisa, the real mona lisa, vatican city and The Moon at an auction. all while dean is having flashbacks to his gay shakesperian tragedy with cas in purgatory. peak sitcomnatural.

b. dean quotes 'blazing saddles', dresses up as a tacky costume party version of a cowboy, and calls himself Clint Eastwood in Frontierland; he's reciting their own mythos back to them (and they don't even recognize it)

c. in Time After Time dean quotes 'the untouchables' to actual real Elliot Ness, the guy the movie was based on, and later, when Elliot Ness chastises him for hitting a witness (played for laughs obviously), he says "what? I learned it from watching you." which is something a son says to his father in an anti-narcotics PSA in the 80s. positioning Elliot Ness as father. and furthermore. he didn't learn shit from watching Elliot Ness he learned it from watching the distorted movie parody of Elliot Ness. he's parodying a parody.

d. in In the Beginning Dean talks young John into buying the impala instead of the van he was abt to buy, bc vans are lame and gay, obviously and the Impala is cool and masc and will still be cool and masc in 40 years. "my dad taught me everything I know." he is teaching his father how to construct his own mythos in real time. dean (parody of john's masculinity) is teaching his own father how to be masculine. ouroboros. reciting his own mythos back to him. as he looks on in blank incomprehension.

last night i watched the first episode in supernatural and within 10 minutes i put it on pause because in NO way, through the 15 seasons, should anyone be happy with how dean's story ends with him dying whilst hunting

because in the 10 minutes that ive learnt about him is that he's spent his entire life fighting, and he dies FIGHTING

no satisfying narrative ends like that, especially not for one thats run for 15 years
