Part of my ADHD symptoms are that the first time I read a book I miss lots of details — especailly regarding appearance! It’s okay to be like me in that way and to have missed the acknowledgements of a POC character’s identity, but make sure you accept it once you are educated! Never be afraid to ask questions and look for clarification :)

There is definitely a difference between participating in the conversation/ being curious and needing ‘proof’ (this anon in my opinion was doing the positive thing!)

However, if you’re the person ignoring the claims and/or arguing about it... then you’re actually just being racist. Sorry, I don’t make the rules

This is a list of Iron Gold supporting characters who I hope make it out of Dark Age

This list excludes characters introduced in the Red Rising series. Also please do not spoil any of their fates because I know it’s unlikely that they live but I just gotta SAY IT!!!

I wanted to make this list even but the only other person I can think of is the Duke of Hands and he seemed sorta dead dead

You know, after finishing Iron Gold, I think I understand the problems some people have with it.

The book is a giant. But, assuming the four POVs were split evenly, each character only got about 150 pages of screen time. Also note that the four storylines don’t have much overlap, meaning that one POV doesn’t add much depth to the next (besides Lyria and Ephraim but that’s a whole different thing) Because of this, there was no possible way for any of the characters to complete a full journey. Therefore, we essentially got a 600 page exposition.

This doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy the book! It also doesn’t mean that the characters or story are bad! It’s just different and didn’t lead to the same sort of ‘satisfying’ conclusion the other books have. You know... Red Rising finishes when Darrow completes the institute. Then, at the end of Golden Son, the war for Mars dies with Augustus. Thirdly, Darrow defeats Octavia at the end of Morning Star. Each book effectively ends with the conclusion of plot’s main driving force. Yes, the end of Iron Gold gives us a defeated Ash Lord and a dead Romulus, but we still haven’t even stratched the surface of our character’s goals and ambitions. Similarly, the war isn’t very much closer to being won than it was 600 pages ago. With Iron Gold, Pierce maticulously builds characters and rips away the facade of the war, but makes readers wait until Dark Age to see the true conflict be amped up! Which is why I’m excited to jump into it whenever my copy arrives in the mail! :)

P.S. I still don’t believe Cassius is dead

Iron Gold walked so that Dark Age could run - that's Pierce Brown's opinion - he said that on twitter and in skme interviews. He laid the groundwork here so that we can have the most epic rollercoaster carnage. I think that once book 6 makes an appearance, the entire trilogy will make sense more as a whole story. From IG to the end, everything will be smoother in one go. And I understand why Pierce chose to do it this way, instead of doing what worked previously.

That being said, be careful with Dark Age, it is Adult rated (or should be). A lot of explicit gore, brutality and violence. No torture porn, but this is where the story hits rock bottom.
