It's the weekend, and I've gotten more used to the new UI
It's starting to grow on me, there are still a lot of improvements to be made, especially accessibility-wise, but my fear of change has mostly abated
I think some people's criticisms of the site looking too different are a little drastic. Setting the layout option to desktop and turning on Experimental to force all pages to have the options applied makes it look pretty much the same as it did. If you don't have the old layout to compare to I think you'd have a hard time picking out the differences on this page (the player info box excluded for obvious reasons)
One of the biggest issues I still have are these buttons and how low-contrast they are, they're all the same color and they all look the same to folks with vision impairments
They actually look best with Slate because of the outline applied to them, but I do think the mock-ups @thewindbloom did would be a massive improvement. Just color coding them and making sure they don't get lost in the background by adding a dark outline
My second biggest issue is this thing
This is just so bad from a design standpoint. I get what they're going for but it's ugly, the text is too small, and it could be condensed into a much cleaner-looking box. Not to mention it's so big that the bottom portion of it gets cut off if you're looking at a dragon at the bottom of the page. I mean they've done most of the work for themselves here:
Using the emojis/icons that they've specifically designed for this purpose would make it much easier to read, people like looking at pictures, not text walls. And once again I'm going to point to Hazeledpoppy's mock-ups because they did an excellent job of cleaning this up
And lastly, another accessibility issue:
They should set everything back to Verdana, that a and o look way to similar in the new font. If you look at the first 'Dragon Share' compared to the second you can see what I mean. They fixed it for usernames on the forums, they should fix it everywhere else as well. Once again vision impaired people will struggle here (I am vision impaired people)
Also I'm still mad about my forum signature but that's less important than accessibility
If anyone else has more accessibility issues they want to point out feel free to add onto this post! These are just the ones I'm having the biggest issue with personally
And once again SEND THEM FEEDBACK ON WHAT YOU WANT CHANGED! The devs had said multiple times that they can't go back due to incompatibilities between the new responsive UI and the old static UI, and that the new UI is intended for accessibility. They want the site to be accessible, please inform them when it isn't!
