where on earth is carmen sandiego?

I've been sharpening my skills and focusing on drawing Carmen, who’s randomly become my artistic muse (although I think about her constantly either way)lol. Capturing her sharp cheekbones, voluminous hair, and signature coat has been a challenge (especially the hair since how the fuck am I meant to render it), especially as I’m determined not to make her look childish. Quite the opposite.

Moving away from my old anime style, which I’ve come to really dislike, has been tough, but in true Carmen fashion, I’ve embraced the change.

I’m really trying to improve! I’m so excited for all my future projects.

Cleaned up some old doodles from when I was thinking about what My Take on Carmen Sandiego would be.

Basically: Orphan -> Kid Recruit -> Rising Star Detective -> The Burnt Out Star that destroyed everything -> Master Thief & #1 enemy of her former employer

love this scene where carm goes off on lee after he tries to literally kill ivy and zack by cutting a rope they were holding onto, like you don’t threaten or even try to hurt children when she’s around, especially not those two.

Hearing Carmen yell out, "Daddy!" As she watches her father fall from a roof knowing that in that single moment, that split second, she wasn't 'Carmen Sandiego' but whatever was left of that abandoned little girl back at the fire. 

Also understanding that him being in danger was all because of her. Because she came too close and the people against her would do anything to watch her suffer - no matter who or what came inbetween.

Watching her run to her 'father' and beg him to forgive her, for everything and anything, only for him to ask the simple but painfully final question of - "Who are you?" 

Carmen began and finished as a mere stranger, whatever remnant of what he'd thought of his baby girl left at the fire to burn. That memory lives on in peace within his mind and she didn't even try to touch it. His peace is her peace.

I know she begs for her papá every single day.

Me as latina being identificated with Carmen Sandiego. Not only for being from South America (and we're from different countries as well) is bc in the 90's cartoon her own father don't recognize her as her daughter.
