Opportunity: Walking student to school [paid position during the school year]

Laurie Davidson Phillips '96 is looking for a Castilleja student and/or alumna to walk her son to school twice a week during the academic year. This is a paid position.

Duties: Tuesday and Thursday morning, 8:00–8:25am, meet 6 year old at home near Rinconada Park, lock up house and walk three blocks to Walter Hays Elementary School.

The Cooper Union Summer Writing Program prepares you for college by giving you the writing and thinking tools you need. This three-week course is designed for students graduating from high school in 2017 or 2018. It’s offered live on the Cooper Union campus and online in a real-time virtual class.

Designed for high-performing, motivated high-school students who want to learn about the science of accelerated learning and neuroplasticity. This Summer Institute is based on a study from UC Berkeley and Stanford on Cognitive Training that had impressive results in improving the cognitive performance of university students.

The program features scientists, instructors, and authors with leading expertise in topics that include focus training, productivity tools, memory, sleep optimization, and optimal test-taking strategies. All Pre-Collegiate Fellows will also take a comprehensive neurocognitive assessment, go on lab tours, and have demos of electroencephalography (EEG), virtual reality, and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI).

The Summer Youth Intensive Program (SYIP) is designed, organized and delivered by the College of Chemistry at UC Berkeley and is far from the traditional summer program. First launched in 2016, the program teaches students to think for themselves, learn to apply theory, communicate effectively, work in a team, and hone skills that set a UC Berkeley student apart from the others.

SYIP goes over the course of one year and is intended for the most accomplished high school students who are passionate about learning and doing scientific research in chemistry, biochemical engineering, material science, or related fields, and who are focused on maximizing their future success in college.

We are very excited to be hosting our first ever 5-day summer program at Stanford's d.school to help young people develop a sense of purpose and become meaning-makers.

Our 5-day summer program will be held at Stanford's d.school from July 8th-12th. We will immerse students our Wayfinder Navigation Toolkit and mix in experiential education from purpose learning, outdoor ed, and design thinking. This will be a FUN and exciting opportunity for students to help them figure out what is meaningful to them and begin to craft lives of purpose.

The ACLU’s Summer Advocacy Institute will bring together a diverse group of students entering their junior and senior years of high school from across the United States to participate in an advanced, firsthand learning experience for the next generation of social justice advocates. Through an intensive 8-day program, students will learn directly from lawyers, lobbyists, community activists, and other experts working to defend the civil rights and liberties critical to a free and open society.

Summer 2017 Lead Counselor in Training:

The Palo Alto Art Center is looking for their Counselors in Training for the summer of 2017. Summer Camp Counselors in Training (CIT) are volunteers (12-17 years old) who assist professional art instructors in the day-to-day running of the Children’s Fine Art summer camps. CITs offer support through classroom management, encouraging campers, prepping art supplies and more.

SIP is a summer-long (10 week) research internship program for high-school students in STEM fields. UCSC faculty, graduate students, and post-doctoral researchers provide one-on-one mentoring of these high-school interns.

High School Program

The High School Volunteer Program offers youth ages 16-18 an opportunity to volunteer in a variety of areas throughout Stanford Health Care. High school volunteers provide valuable service to patients, families, and staff, while gaining experience and self-confidence.

Open to high school freshman, sophomores, and juniors, Creek Camp is a great experience for students who are interested in studying environmental science in college, or those who simply love the outdoors.

Combine your passion for EXPLORATION, SCIENCE, and ADVENTURE in the spectacular settings of Olympic and Yosemite. • Hike through stunning wilderness • Learn basic camping, backpacking skills, and wilderness survival • Build leadership skills alongside new friends • Create an ecological research project • Strengthen college applications with hands-on research and presentation experience

Spoleto Study Abroad will be offering summer programs in vocal music, creative writing, drama, photography, instrumental music, visual arts, and filmmaking for high school students in Spoleto, Italy from July 6 – 31, 2017!

#Humanities Programs

Peninsula Bridge Summer TA

Do you have a passion for working with younger students? Would like to run your own elective for rising 5th graders? The Peninsula Bridge academic summer enrichment program run at Castilleja is looking for teaching assistants.

Applications are due March 16th and more information can be found on the Bridge homepage or stop by the ACE Center and talk to Ms. Villa who is the Site Director.

Design the Future is a week long, fully immersive design thinking summer program for rising 10th, 11th and 12th graders in which students work to solve some of the biggest challenges facing our world today. During this intensive program, created by DC Design and held in collaboration with the Stanford Institute of Design (the d.school) and K12 Lab Network, students will work to design solutions to real problems faced by individuals with physical disabilities.

i2Camp Near Peer

Castilleja is looking for 4–6 Near Peers to provide mentoring for our middle school campers, as well as teaching assistance to our i2Camp faculty. Near Peers will work in the classroom and provide supervision during the 4-week summer session running from June 19 – July 21, 2016 (we will be closed for the week of July 3rd–7th), and attend a mandatory orientation session on June 16th. Near Peers will be paid an hourly rate based on experience.

Key Qualifications: Must be at least 16 years of age and interested in STEM activities. Must enjoy mentoring and teaching middle school students. Must be mature, responsible and reliable.
