Opportunity: Walking student to school [paid position during the school year]

Laurie Davidson Phillips '96 is looking for a Castilleja student and/or alumna to walk her son to school twice a week during the academic year. This is a paid position.

Duties: Tuesday and Thursday morning, 8:00–8:25am, meet 6 year old at home near Rinconada Park, lock up house and walk three blocks to Walter Hays Elementary School.

Today Jill's Lithography class took a trip to Vassar College to see their litho collection in the print study room! Students got to see, up close and personal, prints ranging from the 17th century to the 1960's, including famous artists such as Redon, Kollwitz, Rauschenberg, Oldenberg, Bellows, Matisse, and many more!

Rimer's etching class also took a trip last week to see the museum's collection of etchings. 

What's really great about the print study room is that Patricia holds open study room hours every week! On Wednesdays from 3-5 pm and Fridays 2-4 pm any student can go in and request to look at work in Vassar's collection; it sounds pretty great!

In other news, we depart for SGC in exactly one week and everyone is really excited! We're all getting our prints together and amping up for the long drive to Milwaukee, it's going to be a great trip!

We also have Richard Noyce coming to visit in April and again, we're all super excited! 

Thesis students are getting into the home stretch with only six weeks until the first of four shows opens! It's nerve-wracking and a bit stressful, but everyone is fully immersed in their projects and there are going to be really great results! Keep an eye out for dates on those shows coming toward the end of April.

These are some test plates from Jill's lithography class! First image is of two pronto/polyester plates, then a stone with some tusche washes on it, and some aluminum plates with drawings in crayon, toner, and tusche.

Students in lithography are taught a variety of lithography techniques, from stone to photo, and are encouraged to explore all types of printing combinations. Some students in the current class are completely new to lithography, while others have taken the class before. We also have a mix of graduate and undergraduate students; this makes for an interesting and cultivating learning environment as we have a broad range of experiences! There are currently 18 students enrolled in the class.

At the end of the semester all students participate in a portfolio exchange and learn how to make hand-bound portfolios!
