"If you want to be happy, you have to be happy on purpose. When you wake up, you can’t just wait to see what kind of day you’ll have. You have to decide what kind of day you’ll have." Unknown
How to Receive Love
“I want to love you. I’m scared to love you.”
Trusting love will often feel scary … but the following steps might help you take that risk …
1. First, believe people when they tell you they love you. Whether it’s a partner, or a friend, or family member, it’s crucial that we trust them, and accept the words they say. For if you’re constantly doubting and pushing them away, then you’ll hamper them from proving that they really do love you.
2. Stop being terrified of loss. It’s normal, and makes sense, to hold back from trusting love if your heart has been broken, or your love has been betrayed. But if you never take a chance when you meet someone who’s kind, you’ll be running all your life, and stay captive to your fears. There are people who are safe; trust your intuition here.
3. Love yourself. For some this is the hardest step of all to take – because deep inside your heart you don’t believe you deserve love. If this is true for you, then take the time to figure out the reason why you feel that other people can’t love you. Then, look at all the evidence that shows you deserve love.
4. Begin to take down the walls, and start to risk being vulnerable. Being real can feel so scary, as it makes you vulnerable. Also, if you’ve been badly hurt before, then it feels dangerous. But you can take small steps, and start to let someone get close. And slowly you will see that it is good to share yourself.
5. Learn from young children, and the way they receive love. Young children reach out naturally; they’re not afraid to love. They don’t expect rejection, and they think people are good. And though, sometimes, we learn that we might have to guard our hearts, it’s also beautiful if we can see loving is good.
