I’m reblogging again to ramble and gush over the different dynamics of physical comfort on display here, because it feels very true to them both and is giving me feelings. Catra held tight in Adora’s lap, letting herself be completely enveloped. Adora huddled on herself, trying to keep it contained, but accepting Catra’s comfort.

Catra has an understandably complicated relationship with touch, but Adora has always been the exception. We’ve seen since their childhood, even when Catra is feeling vulnerable and attempting to push Adora away, she still ultimately seeks out and accepts physical comfort from her. She wants it and lets herself lean into it. She doesn’t have to ask because Adora is already there offering it.

Even after everything, that’s what feels very natural to them.

Adora is generally open to touch. She doesn’t hesitate to offer physical comfort to people, and she doesn’t reject it when it’s offered to her by her friends. But she also doesn’t typically seek out any kind of comfort from others and doesn’t often let herself fully sink into it even when it’s freely given. Her first instinct is to self-soothe. Maybe it’s just because she doesn’t know how to ask for anything more.

But that’s okay. Because Catra, through Adora and Glimmer and Bow, has learned a lot about how to offer physical comfort, and she can now give it to Adora without Adora having to ask.
