my body is less of a “temple” and more of a rotting 19th century mansion rumored to be haunted by several wicked and vengeful spirits
The creature in the woods: screams at me
Me: screams back

FORGEDASSET.
Ears are still ringing, lungs continuing to suffer the consequences of how much icy water he had swallowed. Soaked and on the snow ; with blood pooling and staining white. Logic and reasoning is weighed out by the desperation, fear and pain he felt. Everything in him was aware that he should be dead, should have immediately died on impact. By now, he should feel the threat of hypothermia beginning to loom. Oh, but the dangers of one’s own body shutting itself down from the cold, blood loss and trauma from the fall? The evident dangers of nature itself, of the relentless winter that could easily claim a life…
Was the least of his concerns. Scarier things existed out here, ones that might not be as merciful as mother nature could sometimes be.
Gasps are forced from bloodied lips, eyes hardly able to focus in on his surroundings. Everything is a blur, and most of the time he’s out like a light. The pain is unbearable, the cold is too much… the lull of slumber keeps pulling him in. The terror of being pulled isn’t enough to kick start his adrenaline, believing that if he closed his eyes one more time, he would never reopen them. He can’t see, can’t make out the steps. He assumes it’s a predator, something that’s going to eat him while he’s out. Ah, how close to the truth he was.
How long has it been?
Bucky wakes, startled and in pain. What remains of a torn ( and unknowingly devoured ) arm is pounding, burning - still bleeding. Trickles of blood that causes droplets to collect around the cavern floor, but not enough that it will define his death being blood loss. Without his knowledge, the newly introduced serum in his system is keeping him alive. For how long? He does not know. And when he realizes the horrors of his situation, he will wish it hadn’t worked its miracle. Panicked and hazy eyes are flicking around the dark surroundings, trying to figure out where he was ; how he got here. What else was here with him.
Until realization comes that the searing white pain coming from his left, is because there’s no longer a limb. Finger tips pushing and pressing against exposed veins, muscles, bone and soiled tissue. Blood squelching, sticking and staining his hands. “Fuck…” Voice is strained, a wince. Heart rate elevates, and he feels as though he can no longer catch his breath. Positioning damp combat boots against the floor, knowing he’ll have to balance himself before fully standing. Should he call out? Did someone help him? So many questions, and so many doubts. A terrible feeling in the back of his mind, in his gut.
humans are strange. their anatomy, their bodies, how they function -- odd. they’d always thought so. spending countless hours holed in the cavern while the elements whipped and roared through the forest, making the ground tremble with howling winds. they’d even laid near the mouth of the rocky ledge, mass protecting the injured human from said elements, not allowing the snow and ice and sharp wind in to harm them any further. it was rare for them to feel pity toward one of his breed -- humans were prey, they’d branded themselves as such when the tribe he’d protected centuries ago turned on them.
there was a fleeting thought that this one would inevitably turn on them as well. hollowed eye sockets were focused on the bleeding male, skull rested heavily against the rocky floor. strange.
had it been anytime other than the dead of winter, hunting for medicinal herbs to help the human’s condition would’ve been much easier. milling about now, it was much more difficult, using the tip of their skull to push aside snow and ice, searching and searching for something to pack the injury with. every plant was familiar to them, every piece of green had its hidden pros and cons, though now ... finding anything was difficult. even animals to feast on was proving much harder then they were used to. rabbits, mice, the occasional bird. briefly wondering what the other would want to eat when they woke. not something raw, no -- they needed cooked meat. gathering what they could, even starting a fire near the mouth of the cave when the elements permitted it ... a nice little stash of disgusting cooked meat was formed. hopefully enough to satiate them when they woke from their recuperative nap.
they’d heard them stirring. heard the small curse, heard them sitting and moving. they’d been perched outside, unable to handle the maddening stench of fresh meat, blood, hearing his heart continue to pump and plow through the damage that had been done. a rough growl rumbling their chest, akin to a big cat’s purr, as they showed themselves at the mouth of the shelter -- large and threatening, though gaunt, nearly blocking out the light of the sun entirely. speaking up with a borrowed voice, a man’s, disjointed and broken as if poorly mimicked. they hadn’t heard a human’s voice in many years.

SIGRVIF.
THE LIGHT ILLUMINATES THE ARTWORK, the drawings. primitive… intriguing. hazel eyes drift upwards, scanning the symbols curiously. how easily she’s distracted in new places. and she will be sure to look again at the paintings, once the beast is well and resting.
the strange voice draws her back to them, eyes now focused on the wounds. watching the blood fall through thick, matted fur. ❝ yes, ❞ sigyn utters gently; her hand smoothing over the skull once more. ❝ we are safe here. you are safe. ❞ she would make sure of it. she down not fight often; lacks in combat skills. however she will defend the creature against those who might wish it harm.
taking the lantern in her hand, she brings it closer. needing the light to see those wounds more clearly. those deep, raw holes in their flesh. carefully, and as gently as she can, her fingers trace the wound. there is no poison — but there is something. metal? stone? her hand hovers over it again. a bullet. part of it.
humans. perhaps they can see the disdain on her face now. she so loved humans, still does, but far less so. greedy beasts that take and take. tearing down forests and killing for sport and ego.
❝ this will hurt, ❞ she warns softly. her hands falling to their fur. ❝ but i cannot heal you until the bullet it out. ❞
the cave wasn’t too familiar, but safe, marked by tribal runes that let the ground remain sacred, quiet, holy. no animals crossed into the demigod’s domain, even though feral minded, they were smart enough to stay away. the last creature to be allowed to step foot in here were themselves -- this female newcomer was standing on ritualed ground, stained in blood, tainted by humans of old. warm touch against cold bone brought an unseen gaze up from the dirt to focus on her features, curious, watching.
it wasn’t until her hands were running over matted dark fur that a groan of pain pulled from the hollow of their chest, allowing the heaviness of their skull to rest against the ground. pain wasn’t unfamiliar to them ; it was quite common actually, though letting someone help whilst they were in the midst of it was unheard of. they’d never let another close, especially when injured, though being unable to free themselves of the bullet riddled wounds left them with no alternative. they needed help.
a submissive posture is taken, more relaxed, as if nearly bracing themselves for the pain she’d aforementioned.

Barbed Wire
goretober meme / @freebcrn .[ barbed wire ] to find your muse trapped in barbed wire.
the scent of blood was heavy in the forest, tainting the air with metal, similar to the smell of old pennies. but it wasn’t that fact that set the deity on edge ( blood was an all too common scent, given the number of predators they allowed ), but knowing who it was that was bleeding out on their sacred ground. the man who had found a roost in their forest, had kept the damned away, the one who made them turn and flee. it was that fact that had the beast moving swiftly through the trees, huge yet silent, a dark shadow growing closer and closer.
a snarl vibrated their ribs as they drew close -- barbed wire. a human invention, unwelcome in their forest. a trap for animals, to keep prey in and make them easy targets. being in unfamiliar territory rendered the hunter at the mercy of others, even now watching the human struggle. unacceptable. another noise, empty and vibrating the ground around him, warning the other to stop moving as they approached. skull tilting side to side, hollow sockets taking in the mess of denim and blood and skin.
‷ STILL. ‴
clawed and long fingers moved to help as they crouched, strength enough to rip the metal, though not without effort; the hunter was trapped, wrapped tight, and it was impossible to free him without inflicting more damage. their own hands bled, what little layer of flesh they did have ripping away as the wire was intended to do. a noise of frustration, rough, damning, before they were leaning in to rip at sharp bloodied metal with sharper teeth, clipping the fencing into pieces as if their jaws were made for cutting wire. it took time, effort, but soon enough, the human was free. they could already see the deep lacerations, the showing flesh and muscle beneath the pants that had been torn to pieces. a forest god they were, but a healer, not so much. it was that thought, the sudden panic setting in that had the wendigo scooping the injured human up. they couldn’t remember the last time they’d handled something with such care or tenderness ... not for centuries. but this human -- chick, they’d gathered, needed to live.

@dovesung continued from here.
a curious type, humans, as per usual. the species claimed five senses, though that was widely untrue, even the wendigo could recognize that. they had speech, hearing, touch, taste, smell ... but they always seemed keen on when the deity was closing in. they knew they were being watched, how their steps changed, how nervous their heart rate suddenly felt. it was that curiosity and intrigue that had them observing rather than attacking; that and the simple fact that she was ... well, a she. a harbinger of death they may be, but it didn’t stop their biggest vice from taking over their thought process. the woods were eerily quiet, deathly so, the only noise coming from the female’s birds. it wasn’t until she turned that they were able to see her fully, freezing in place, cool air huffing in a cloud of breath from their snout.
and then she spoke, soft, gentle, warm -- a stark contrast to the cool winter night around them. the request is what has them tilting their skull off to the side, akin to a curious puppy, slowly allowing their gaunt, hollowed frame moving to stand fully upright from their previously crouched position. the movement was directly in her eye sight, so they knew she saw ... they wanted her to see. towering a staggering twelve feet high, a demigod in her sights, low snarl rumbling their ribs and the ground around them.
i can’t see you, the woods surrounding them seemed to echo, whispering, i can’t see you, can’t see you. huge reflective eyes stared back at her, i can’t see you. slowly, emerging from the dark treeline, a slender arm, claw dragging into the ground to create a rune in the mud. sacred. protected. i can’t see you. the claw dragged, moving as they did, encircling the small clearing she’d found herself in so that she was now standing inside of the circle. holy, holy, holy.
it was only then that they showed themselves in full, stepping out of the darkness and into the moonlight that was provided. a blessing and a curse ; she was protected from the outside world, but now entrapped with a bastard god. though ... her lack of fear was what intrigued them the most.
‷ I SEE YOU. ‴
their words are spoken to her in her own voice, though borrowed, sounding off, like a badly pieced together bit that needed more practice. they were impressed and confused by her lack of reaction, and it drew them closer, careful, cautious, huffing heavily at the air to take in her scent. perhaps she was worth the protection after all.
