Last night/early this morning I was sitting on our stoop when a kind of drunk man stopped at the end of our sidewalk and said, “Whenever I walk by here I always see you reading something. What are you reading?” Since it was like two in the morning I guess I just looked at him skeptically, so he gestured down the road and mumbled something about his girlfriend waiting at home. Then asked me if I had any favorite two line poems that I could recite from memory. I told him I liked poetry but didn’t read it enough to have anything memorized.

He said, “my favorite goes like this:

‘The ball I threw while playing in the park

Has not yet reached the ground’

It’s by Dylan Thomas. You should check it out.”

Then he turned and continued on his way.
