Nichlaes wasnât one to take pleasure in parties lik this. This celebration seemed absolutely reckless, useless, even. Yet here he was, dressed sharp, doing all of it just for the appearances. After all, as long as he appeared as normal and as good as possible, people would never assume him to be the bad guy? No one would ever assume him to be a cold-blooded killer, and would just happily continue to visit his yacht club.
Making his way into the grand ballroom, Nik observed the crowd. He wasnât expecting to see the one person that remained on his mind all the time, figuring Rina would be far above some pitiful ball. Yet, here he was, picking up on her scent almost the same moment he stepped into the ballroom. Taking one of the many glasses of scotch the waiters were offering, Nik walked through the crowd, only stopping when he saw her. Despite all the people in the room, she still remained the most beautiful; not that it was ever a struggle.
But then his eyes landed on the man Catharina danced with, and Nik struggled not to smash the glass in his hands. Who the hell was he? What the hell was he doing with his wife? He watched as the manâs hand trailed down to her ass, and he growled, unable to help himself. It wasnât loud, and it wasnât anything head-turning, but if looks could kill, the man dancing with his wife wouldâve been buried five times at this point. Downing his glass, he locked eyes with Rina, his glare not disappearing as he set the empty glass down, making his way over to the couple.Â
âMind if I interfere?â It wasnât a question, however. It was a demand.Â
âI think the phrase is mind if I cut in, love,â Rina purred, amused and aroused by the fierce look in Nichlaesâ eyes. She looked up at her partner, who still had his arms around her. âBetter let him, darling,â she said. âOtherwise he might get violent.â The man seemed like he was going to protest, but thought better of it, and drew away, throwing a look back in the coupleâs direction. Rina shook her head, then looked back up at Nik. âWell are you going to dance with me now?â she asked, arching an eyebrow.
