She took it on to start a new life in that house (Ooh, ooh, ooh)
Be the token coin in its mouth (Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh)
Maybe, with enough time tending to that ground (Ooh-ooh)
She can heal the heart of her house (Ooh)
Feeding all the hounds at its mouth (Ooh)
And this world is bad theater
The third act is on
And it’s falling apart
Til the curtain draws
There’s a light i can’t see
But it shines on the stage
And i’m sewn to my seat
Like i’m part of the play
the first rule you learn is this: that coin can’t flip in the air forever. one day it’ll land, heads or tails, and there isn’t a damn thing you can do about it. it isn’t fair, and it isn’t just. it isn’t right. you can’t thread that needle, though, between duty and devotion. you could never have the necessary grit.
So what cause Morty to join the Faith of SHulpe, and what monster does he want to eat the most?
So, Morton Wells belongs to my GM, @arsarcane , but let me pop the explanations under a readmore because I LOVE this character
So, the campaign is very horror-movie inspired, starting off at a summer camp. The cast was decently extensive, but for this, all you need to know about is Minerva, Morty, Morty's Best Friend/secret hookup Quill, and surprisingly, Minnie's dad Killian, who belongs to my friend @systematic-shark
The camp, of course, had a serial killer aaaall up in it. Also a secret government facility. And one of the formless werewolf creatures from the moon. It was ALSO inescapable. Cool! First night, there's a big argument between several characters; it ended in Quill and Morty storming off in separate directions, and Minerva following Morty due to, uh, a huge crush that they had on him. And that's when Minerva found the body. Quill had been murdered via axe. Fast forward, serial killer shenanigans, we learn it wasn't one of the campers, which was great. Especially because Morton was a suspect due to coming back covered in blood (in his grief, he tried to scoop Quill's intestines back into his body. Didn't work very well.)
Quill got resurrected at least two different ways, we got a radio signal out to VASCU, we were saved. Sometimes, though, your parents are sometimes-christians, and only pray in crisis. Morty's family was like that. They promised their boy to god if only he would be returned. He was. He kissed Minerva once before they split for the night, and promised to call in the morning. Minnie never got that call.
Turned out, Morton was shipped to Montana to live with his great uncle--and Minerva, who is VERY psychic for reasons I will explain in a paragraph or so--started having strange erotic/horrifying dreams about Morty Doing An Cannibalism. Minnie being Minnie, these turned out to actually be true. Morty's uncle was the God of a sect of Faithful in Montana. Around this time, Minnie's dad also started acting cagey--he knew something.
They met up at the water tower two weeks later, and Morton confessed everything, along with the line 'your dad has killed and eaten way more people than I have', along with 'i have to go be God now" and a refusal to allow Minnie to give him a promise ring.
(Minnie's powers are moooostly due to the fact that her dad ate people. He was part of an Irish sect, the Church of Saint Luke, and, well. A lot of that is Systematic-Shark's to explain but suffice it to say that you are what you eat, and that does breed true.)
As to what he wants to eat the most, God I'm hoping the answer is Minnie. I like the drama of that.
Late birthday gift for my friend @systematic-shark , of their kitsune cleric of Urgatoa. He's our Emissary in our Kingmaker game and he is a mythic bitch 💚
and TODAY'S tumbleweed of a thought that blew through my desert of a brain was 'hey the cofd campaign I am in started in a camp. now wouldn't it be great if--"
this is very much a shitpost and so I totes don't have to be mad that the lines aren't my best, It Is Fine
