It was the simplest way he could think of to explain the very complex situation he had with his brothers. It wasn’t just that they were a team, really; it wasn’t even how much they relied on one another. The team was what made them strong, and pulling out a gear served the same function as removing a vital component from a car. Without it, nothing worked as it should.

[anticlam is typing...] [anticlam] you want an outside perspective. someone who isn’t used to you always having the answers. i think, subconsciously, all of you are expecting you to know what to do to fix something that can’t be fixed. [anticlam] you need someone you can talk to without that expectation, even if none of you realized it was even there.
It sounded a lot like maybe that was the problem, to Rei. Donnie, and his brothers, were so used to Donnie fixing their problems that coming across one he couldn’t fix was straining everything and none of them seemed to know enough to put it into words to move past it.
