But now I’m going to teach you how to make your own lightweight poseable arms from scratch! You wanna know how to make a second set of arms like these babies above? Follow the tutorial below and I guarantee you’ll be able to make as many arms as you could possibly want. Or legs. Either or.

Things you’ll need:

Cellophane wrap

Clear scotch tape/Packing tape

Wire (Floral wire or bigger gauge wire will work)

Polyfill or cotton filling

Thick Interfacing

White broadcloth (For once in your life)

Thick white tights/leggings

Opera length white gloves

Fishing wire

Make Some Pocket Extenders for Your Pants

So I don’t know about you, but I’m often frustrated by the ridiculous smallness of girls’ pockets. At a bare minimum, I need to be able to shove my cellphone in there - come on, pants companies! So what I started doing was making myself pocket extenders. I’ve done this several times, for pants and shorts. It’s great.

I just got this pair of jeans, so I thought I’d show you how to do it. I kind of feel like it just hasn’t occurred to some of you that this is an option, so maybe now it will. All you need is your pants, some fabric (I just took a random piece from a scrap bin), a needle, and some thread (thread doesn’t even need to match the fabric since literally no one will see it).

See? Ridiculous. Like, half a cellphone, or only 2.5″. Useless.

 So turn those inside out to expose the pockets.

Figure out how big you want your pockets to actually be. I kinda go by whatever looks like might be right. I didn’t really measure them. Fold the fabric in half, so you have a pocket, and then fold it in half again so you can have two equal ones.

Try to get the edges to line up enough, pin it in place, then sew up the sides! Are your stitches crazy uneven and wonky looking? Doesn’t matter; nobody’s going to see it. These are in the inside of your pants. The only thing that matters is that it holds up. So I double-did the corners, since those tend to get the most stress.

Cut open the bottom of the existing pockets.

Pin it in place, then sew around, joining the new pocket to the old pocket. I did this by keeping my hand on the inside, so I wouldn’t accidentally sew through the other side. Again, I reinforced the corners, and didn’t worry about what it actually looks like. Then I turned it in side out to make sure the inside was all joined properly.

Yay all done! And the pockets are so much bigger now!

Whaaaat I can fit my entire phone and entire hand and probably something else now, are girls’ pockets even allowed to do that?! Heck yeah they are.

SEWING tutorial (by AmenoKitarou (A.K. Wirru))

This is a trimming technique a friend taught me, that we like to call “Inivisible” trims. (The official name is actually called “Stitch in the Ditch”) You know those characters who have trims on their design that have NO TOP STITCH LINES?? This is a way to do them. Notes: - to make the costume neat on the inside as well, hem the strip before moving onto step 2. - use matching colour threads. For my costume I used dark green on the top thread, and had white thread for the bobbin.  - the close you can stitch to the edge of the seam, the more *invisible* it will be. - this can be done with much thinner trims too. Of course, it would become more fiddly the thinner it is

Jack Frost Staff Tutorial!

My apologies for missing a few photos! I forgot I was doing a tutorial during the process… But, this should suffice! O v O

MATERIALS NEEDED

Three or four 2’ 3/4” PVC pipe sections (you’ll have extra, that’s good!)

Two 3/4” PVC couplers

One 45-degree 3/4” PVC elbows

One 90-degree 3/4” PVC elbow

Two 3/4” PVC caps

PVC pipe cutters (i used branch cutters OTL)

PVC glue (“Red Hot Blue Glue”)

Painter’s tape (the BIG rolls! PREFERABLY TAN or BROWN)

“Rust-oleum” brown spray paint in SATIN FINISH

“Rust-oleum” Clear MATTE finish spray

“Rust-oleum” Brown Stone Texture spray paint (optional)

White paint pen (IE Sharpie thin-tip)

White acrylic paint

Light blue shimmer acrylic paint

paint brushes/paper towels

OTL My costume is like >30% from finished though. ;v; I couldn’t find plain hoodies so I had to make one myself and it’s far from being finished OTL I’m postponing everything until I finish my finals, which should be in early June. Our Cosplay Craft Room

It’s hard taking photos of your craft space when you’re constantly using it.  But with Katsucrunch finally over, we’ve finally been able to photograph some of our favorite pieces in our craft room!  We constructed this room with the goal of having lots of storage and lots of open space sewing parties with friends.  There were some really specific pieces of furniture we wanted, but at the same time we didn’t want to break the bank - much of what you see is DIY-ed together, re-painted, or reupholstered.  After many years of sewing in the middle of the living room floor, having a bright, open space to craft really makes a huge difference!  This room is 14x15ft all together, and even if you don’t have a big or dedicated space, there are still lots of things you can do to improve your own craft area.

Some tips:

Give yourself some storage space.  It’s hard to keep your craft area clean if you don’t have the space to keep your projects.  We store our scrap fabric and current projects in large square bins.  Smaller items are organized in the desk drawers, and less-used items are stacked in closet bins.  Drawers and labeled ziplock bags also make a great way to store away wigs while taking up very little space.

Hang whatever you can.  Mount your wigs!  Mount your rulers!  Mount your thread!  Anything you can fix to the wall is one less thing covering your work surfaces.

DIY the heck out of your furniture.  Unfortunately we can’t show you where to buy either our double-wide desk or the rolling cutting counter… because we made them ourselves!  Commercial “craft” labeled furniture with lots of storage can be really pricey - the Pottery Barn equivalent of our cutting island clocks in at $1,000.  We made our two big work spaces for around $200 each using pieces from Ikea, a saw, and a drill.

So according to Gail Simone it’s Cosplay Appreciation Day!  So here are some of my pics from this year.  It’s been quite the year and we’ve gone to more cons than ever with our art, our books, and our costumes.  It’s also been quite the year in spreading the message that cosplay is for everyone, and it’ll continue on into next year and years to come <3

Special thanks to my wifey (the Belle with the design on the front of the dress and pretty much the girl in every pic with me except for the group shot of Disney characters) for making these costumes and always being a supportive voice.  Also thanks to all of the cool people I’ve met at all of these conventions and online through my cosplay page, I hope we all have just as much fun, or even more fun, next year.  Thanks for all of the support in what I do, it means a lot to me :)
