Tea service. Tibet. In the Forbidden Land. 1899.
One of my favorite photos currently at the #Getty by #hiroshihamaya- ‘Children Singing in a Snow Cave’- Niigata Prefecture, 1956. Hamaya is quoted about the photo, he says, “The village Toka-machi is famous for snow. On the night of the Lunar New Year, snow caves are made all over town. Children light candles, bring braziers, and have dinner inside. Adults are invited to be their guests. They sing bird-chasing songs to the beat of clappers. It’s the children’s kingdom all through the towns and villages.” …Is there anything more lovely than that?
Ah yes, the imagery of magical, glowing bubbles in the snow-covered Japanese landscape. Lovely.
