Final Reflections
Final Reflections! This course had a very intriguing concept and I am very glad I decided to participate! From exploring the huge range of possibilities with paperclips to the creation of medical or dreaming technology the course has pushed us to learn and investigate subjects many of us never thought about exploring prior to STEAMStudio. STEAMStudio also pushed its students to explore other concepts such as 3D modeling.
Students were pushed to iterate and produce material on their own without being supervised too closely. Not only did this push us to be more independent, but it also put the ball in our court and let us decide exactly how much time we wanted to spend on each project. That really helped tie in the "pre-college" part of the course as it helped prepare us for the freedom you are allowed in the college environment.
Each project designed for STEAMStudio was unique but also tied together with some similarities. The paperclip project helped spark ideas for later and larger projects for some students! In my own experience Thinn's pain tracking device tied together perfectly with my idea for a bracelet that would help monitor and counteract pain!
Working together with other students was another major aspect of the course. The communication over Facebook and the feedback exchanged between students undeniably helped elevate and expand the thinking of every student, and no one was bitter or mean to one another. I heard nothing but CONSTRUCTIVE criticism.
I wish that everyone who participated in this course continues to follow this path (or not if you decided it wasn't for you) and I truly hope to see some of these designs refine and release for use in the public. If we all could make these ideas into realities we could make the world a much more advanced/healthy/empathetic/dreamy world! I wish you all luck in your future endeavors!
