I Play Dirty on the Playground

Name's Arizona. I may seem sweet and apparently "peppy", but I'm pretty kickass. I save tiny humans for a living. Mess with me, and I might just smash your face in with a brick. Currently the proud owner of one real leg and one prosthetic one. Happily married to my ortho beauty, Callie Torres. We have a four-year-old daughter, Sofia, and two month old twins Tabitha and Sebastian.

Those two are going to be quite heart breaker. Sebastian just making girls scream by his charming smile and Tabi’s gonna have that smile that she doesn’t give to just anyone.

Getting into the hang of things, that’s something that should happen for us too, soon.

Thanks so much. [laughs lightly] I don't mean to boast, but I agree. I have such cute kids. Tabitha has already proven with the smiling, she took two months to actually give me one. And so far, it's only been me. Sebastian smiles at everyone, he's just happy all the time.

Tilting her head slightly, Meredith smiled, watching Arizona cuddling with her son. Babies have that power to just make everything better. Of course, when you’re the parent, even though when you hold them, you love the feeling, it just isn’t as easy as just holding them here and there just for the fun of holding them. Putting her hands on her hips, Meredith nodded, still smiling at Arizona’s comment about her son. Her eyebrows raised both at the same time, and she sighed, shrugging as she went all the way to the couch to join Arizona, sitting beside her. “Well,” she said, sitting down, “it’s given a different dynamic to the family, but Derek’s sure happy he’s not the only man in the house.” she smiled, laughing slightly. “It’s great. I’d jus forgotten just how much energy and attention a baby his age requires. With all the diaper changing and feedings… Plus I’ve still got Lilly’s diapers to change, and she’s only two so she requires a lot of time and attention as well, but we’re getting there.” She looked down at her son and smiled, then looked back up at Arizona to ask, “How about you? How’s Callie? And the kids?”

Arizona smiled as Meredith sat down next to her, still holding Jamie comfortably in her arms. It was strange, she had two babies of her own at home, yet she loved holding Meredith's, too. She loved holding all babies, really, which made sense since she was in pediatrics. Kids had always been her thing, and she loved that she could have both a work life and a home life with them. "Yeah, I understand," Arizona replied, nodding as Meredith talked. "The twins kind of threw Callie and I into an uproar, but we're adjusting. Although, it's getting hard again now that I'm back at work.." She sighed, hoping she wasn't talking too much about herself and not seeming like she wasn't paying attention to Meredith. "I bet Derek's glad! How are Lilly and Zola feeling about their little brother?"

Getting back to short nights and lots of crying had been harsh, mostly in the beginning. It still was at times, when Derek would be so tired that he wouldn’t wake up to the cries, or when he would be on call and she would be the only one left to wake up and get the baby. There wasn’t anything easy about being a parent. Though there were great moments, lots of great moments. It made it all worth it. Nodding, she grinned at Arizona’s comment. “Oh yeah, he’s calm. At least when he’s not crying.” she laughed a little. She nodded and sighed, responding, “Yeah.” Arizona was right, being a parent is great, and spending time with her kids was something Meredith enjoyed doing more than anything. But there comes a point where you just need a break and you need to take it easy, think for yourself a little bit. Seeing Arizona’s excitement, she passed Jamie over. “There you go…” she whispered, putting him carefully in her arms, seeing as he was half awake, half asleep.

"Hi there little one," Arizona cooed, taking Jamie into her arms. He was so tiny, still brand new, so he was smaller than the babies she had at home. She stroked his cheek with her thumb softly, smiling down at the little boy. "He's beautiful, Meredith. Just gorgeous." She moved to sit on the edge of the couch, snuggling Jamie closer to herself as she held him. He really did remind her of Sebastian, with how quiet and serene he was. Then again, like Meredith said, it could just be because he was tired. But many babies were fussy when they were tired, her own children for example. Arizona looked up at Meredith, shooting her a soft smile. "How's everything going now that this little dude's joined the family?"

That's so cute! Congrats, Mommy. Sebastian smiles all the time, he's so peaceful. Tabitha, not so much yet. We're good, though! Finally getting into the hang of things.

Smiling, Meredith took a glance at her son and nodded. “Yeah,” she says, bouncing him still, “he’s a good baby.” She looks up and steps back. “But come on in,” she gestures, taking her coat and hanging it on the pole, then turning back to her, she smiles. “Really, thanks for stopping by. I could really use that right now.” she sighs, “Derek works a lot, it’s actually a surprise that he’s here today and can take a look on the girls,” she grins, “but yeah, thanks.” She looks down at her son and then back up at Arizona, asking, “Do you want to hold him?”

Arizona smiled widely, stepping into Meredith's house and shutting the door behind herself. "He seems like it!" She stroked Jamie's cheek softly, just melting at the sight of the adorable little boy in front of her. He looked like such a perfect combination of his parents, with Derek's dark hair and Meredith's pink lips, and both of their smiles. He really was an adorable little boy. "He reminds me of Sebastian, with how calm he is. They have that in common, our little boys." Arizona nodded, helping Meredith hang up her coat. "I needed it, too! Believe me. I love my kids, but I needed some time with a friend. Same with Callie, I can't believe we're all off." She chuckled softly. "Thank you too, Mer." Meredith offered to have her hold Jamie, and Arizona nodded eagerly, grinning. "I'd love to! C'mere, little munchkin."

She’s already going to be 3 months old. Before I know it she’ll be lying to me to go to cinema with her boyfriend.

Being a mother, Meredith would never get tired of. She loved her children, she’d become a real family person. Her family was her priority, no matter how important work was to her. But then no matter how much she loved spending time with her children and being a mother, being away from work for so long was starting to really kick in. Heck, when the kids would all be napping, it wasn’t rare for Meredith to grab a banana and stitch it up, just so she felt as though she was doing some kind of surgical stuff. And her social life had decreased a bit. Between barbie talks and bedtime princess stories, she didn’t have much more of a social life than that. She barely saw Derek who worked a lot, and she wasn’t going out of the house all that much because it was constantly raining, and the streets were covered with ice and the last thing she wanted was to slip while taking the kids out, or for them to get hurt in any way. So when Arizona had told her she would come over, Meredith was over the moon about it. Derek was home for the rest of the day and had promised he would look after the girls to let Meredith spend some time with Arizona. Of course, she would look after Jamie because she figured Arizona would want to see him, and since she was breast-feeding, even though she could have pumped some milk, she’d decided to keep him close and take care of him for the night. As the doorbell rang, Meredith walked up to the door and smiled. “Hey, come on in.” she said, stepping back to let her in, bouncing Jamie in her arms.

Arizona pulled into Meredith's driveway only about six minutes after she had left her house, for her friend lived close. All of them lived close to each other, since they needed to be able to get to the hospital quickly if they were needed. So, it was helpful, since they could see each other easily if they wanted to. And it helped out for the kids, too. They could have playdates easily, and even be on close call if one of them needed to be taken home early from a sleepover. So Arizona was grateful for the short drive as she pulled into Meredith's driveway and shut off the car, grabbing her purse and hopping out. She went up to ring Meredith's doorbell, not having to wait a while until her friend opened the door. Arizona grinned widely, stepping into Meredith's house. "Hi!" she greeted, waving a tiny little wave to the baby in Meredith's arms. "Oh my goodness, look at that little boy! He's gorgeous, Mer."

"Purse, check. Phone, check. Keys, ..check." Arizona counted everything off on her fingers as she glanced into the backseat, trying to make sure she had every thing she needed before she left for Meredith's. It was something she did often with the twins and Sofia when they were traveling somewhere, and it had become a habit of hers when she went anywhere now. She had promised to stop by and visit her friend while Callie and Derek and the kids were occupied, so she could have some alone time with Meredith. As much as she loved her children, it would be nice to spend some time around other adults. Smiling to herself at how happy she was that she had achieved this accomplishment, Arizona pulled out of the driveway and began to make her way towards Meredith's house.

Oh, they’ll love it in daycare. For a change, the new staff there is rather talented with children, plus your munchkins can become friends with all of our children.

That sounds great, I'll have a little bit less worry keeping them there, then. If you all trust it, then I will. [smiles] My twins still need to meet your twins! That'll be great for them, always having another set of twins to play with.

Soon? Please? Honestly, I’m dying in here. I love my baby, but being stuck at home all day and doing nothing but sleeping, watching tv and breast-feeding… I need adult-cheer up.

How about tomorrow afternoon? I get off pretty early, and Callie will stay home with the twins while Sofia's at preschool, so I'll be perfectly free. [smiles, laughing] I feel ya, definitely. Mommy needs some time away from her babies.

Oh, I know. I always hate those times I’m not able to spend my time in this hospital, it feels like home. No matter the dramas and stuff, I still feel comfortable around here. Yet, of course, the last time I took care about the kiddos and that’s a pretty great excuse.

Don't get me wrong, I love being home with my kids and Callie, but I've really missed the hospital. Surgery is my passion, and it's hard to live without your passion, even if it's only for a few months. I actually can't wait to bring the twins to daycare so they can have a peek of the place I love so much.
