âCanât say that I missed the food, but itâs good to be back.â
She could say yes. It would be very easy. Just another lie in a lifetime of lies. All she had to do is say yes, she was fine, she was just worried about him and blah blah. Heâd never have to know the truth. But even though she wants to lie with all her might, she knows she has to tell the truth. "No." she says, shaking her head. Her hand grips her thigh to keep from shaking. "No itâs not. Wolffe, Iâm pregnant."
It takes him all of a second to process what she just said before he inhales sharply and just as quickly he's leaning in towards the comm as if that's going to do something. His stomach turns and his throat is squeezing shut but he clears it and sits up straighter.
"Oh."
"I.... when did you find out? And I suppose.. congratulations are in order?"
Heâs halfway asleep when his comm goes off on the small table next to his bed. Itâs been a long day of getting the boys in order for the next mission with Master Plo and all he wanted was a place to fall into.Â
Namely his bed.
With a mumble and a heavy hand rubbing heavy eyes, Wolffe manages to fumble around and answer the call. His, âIâm awake, no really, completely alertâ, face fades back into a yawn when he sees the familiar face staring back at him.
"Commande- Ah. Juno. Iâm sorry, I wasnât expecting a ring."
She barely manages not to burst into laughter at the irony of his words. Now is really not the time for such things, and she keeps her face calm, even looks into those beautiful, mismatched eyes âWolffe, are you busy? We really need to talkâ
Her tone rings wrong with him and he's alert, completely awake now and sitting up immediately. He pulls a hand over his face, as if wiping away the last of sleep before dragging his feet onto the cold floor. "Of course, of course, what's the matter? Is everything is okay on your end?"
The clicking of her heels echo in the hall, at this late hour. She holds her coat around her, tight, as she keys in the code to her door. Scurrying inside, like a thief, she takes out the data pad and reads it, one more time. Her legs are trembling too much to support her and she sinks to the couch, shaking violently, gasping for air, making inhuman whimpering noises. Itâs a long moment before she is able to move again, and  as soon as she can, she punches the number sheâs memorized into the comm. She takes the moment before the answer to closer her eyes and breath and force herself to smile.Â

No, no, itâs fine. Just making sure you didnât want to kill me.
Youâre an annoyance at best; I have more important things to worry about.
Well, then, thatâs great; maybe you can work on your attitude.
Iâll be sure to get right on that then.
They have books ad everything, if you were wondering.
Iâm actually surprised you know what a book is.
Color me impressed.
Something needs to die.
Are you taking applications orrrr?
Absolutely. I won't even charge you more then getting rid of this kink in my neck.
No, no, itâs fine. Just making sure you didnât want to kill me.

Hope thatâs not me.
Not everything is about you, unless youâd like it to be?

Osik, you SLEEP sarcastic.
I haven't the foggiest what you're talking about.Â
'Are you always a smartass?' 'Nope. Sometimes I'm asleep.'

Seeing the subtle smile form on the commanderâs face, Junoâs own omnipresent smile relaxes and she moves to sit beside him. âwell, not quite a hunch, more like a tip off. Iâve been informed that you might have had an encounter that might not have gone so well.â
[Just that one simple sentence causes the ever-near frown to reemerge, complete with the always famous eyeroll. With another slow sip, he glances over at Juno, side-eyeing her openly.] "Yes, thank you for that. It was truly thrilling to open my door and find... that standing on the other side."
"That was sarcasm, by the way. I wasn't sure I was laying it on thick enough for you to notice."
" Call it a hunch." *extends the caf towards him again.* "Do you want this or am I to be forced to make my insulin levels weep in terror by drinking it?"
"A hunch hmm?" [He takes the caf, more then grateful of course, but unwilling to show it. Not now at least. Not after the osik he's had to put up with. There's a small sip, his eyes flutter shut and he can feel the anger begin to drain away, if only a little. Wolffe lifts his gaze to Juno and smiles, -a small one- but a smile nonetheless.] "Thank you Juno. I do appreciate it."
*rolls eyes*
"Things not going well for you, darling?" *Gives him a gentle smile and holds out a caf for him*
"What gave it away?"
*rolls eyes*
(Bliz) "How old are you?"
[Thereâs a slow blink and then an exaggerated eye roll from the otherwise motionless commander.]Â "Old enough to be too old to put up with you."
"Thatâs because sheâs competent. "
"You just havenât seen my good side yet, what with constantly calling me childish. It seems a bit childish of you to contiguously insult me when it would much simpler to a: ignore me, or b: simply not rise to the bait.â
"Iâm thoroughly competent, just not around you- and that is because of your own doing."
"And yet here you are, standing in my doorway, bothering me."
"My own doing? Which part? The part where I let you kindly know that if you ever put to work your threats against my men that I would end you slowly? Or the one where I threatened to have you court marshaled for insubordination? Both of those are still an option, should you choose."
"Now, if weâre quite done here, I have better things to waste my time with then your blathering."
He shrugs. âHey, you made the same threats I did- and you didnât say that very kindly. Whoâs to say âhow old are youâ wasnât just an honest question? And the insubordination accusation would just be ignored because weâre both the same rank.â
"I would enjoy at least one intellectual or maybe even friendly conversation, but thatâs obviously out of your power.â His comm beeps, and he answers with a fake tone of joviality. âSee you late, I guess.â
"Quite."
"Enjoy your evening soldier. "
