I made two more
I’m not sure if anyone is still checking this group but I made a new piece and included the cardboard boarder that everyone liked. This is called “Out of Reach”
“Girl with the Pearl earring living in 2020″

Artist statement..
I have been working on my artist statement, what do you all think?...
I am a fine art photographer and digital artist who creates photos who tells the stories of those who have been sexually assaulted.
This series is done through collaboration. Survivors contact me and we share our stories with each other, I propose a photo based on their personal stories and if they like it then I make it.
Frida Kahlo once said, “They thought I was a Surrealist, but I wasn't. I never painted dreams. I painted my own reality.” This is how I feel when I create my photos. I use Photoshop in my images so I can make any reality possible. The images look surreal to some but to survivors it was our reality.
In 2017, I was sexual assaulted. Afterwards, I felt completely powerless. I didn’t feel like myself. I was blocked when it came to my art and I didn’t know what to do. My partner, Ryan Sehmi asked me if he could help me create a video about what happened to me and after that I felt a weight lifted off my shoulders. I took power over what happened to me. This inspired me to help other tell their stories.

A self-portrait I made, will eventually be a triptych
So far i have a Vermeer in the bottom left and right above is the old Colt building with a fall scene on the right side. I want to represent CT/New England. Most of my family members that immigrated from Italy like my grandma for example worked at the Colt factory for a period of time, and my favorite thing about New England is the fall season with the beautiful color changing foliage. I hope this week i can make some good decisions on other images and placements so i can bring this guy together nicely.
Finally getting around to posting my pieces from pre-quarantine :)

Hello Everyone, Below is a brief interview edited and put together by the gallery staff at Montserrat College of Art in Beverly, Mass. It’s a conversation with Benjamin Cook, an Artist, educator and founder of the Social Distance Gallery. It’s quite an interesting and inspiring response to our current state of isolation and well worth a watch. Please take care!
Artists from around the globe draw what they’re seeing and feeling in isolation.

I hope you are all well and staying safe during all of this social distortion… As you all continue to work on your Capstone exhibition in the studio and begin the laborious process of thinking through your artist statement I thought I would share a great resource with you! For the past many years UMass Amherst has collected all of the dissertations and various theses from all departments including Studio Arts. I encourage you all to browse through the examples found in the link below. Reading the Theses submitted by the MFA candidates in the Studio Arts department at UMass Amherst may provide some insights and prove to be a useful resource as you begin to collect your own thoughts and write about your own work. Take care, be safe and keep up the great work!
Digital study, working on transferring this to canvas now.
