“Let’s do this together: an interview with Letters for Black Lives”
Letters for Black Lives Banner, CC0
This week’s CC thing is an interview with the organizers of “Letters for Black Lives,” a new writing project aimed at opening up intercultural and inter-generational dialogue about the Black Lives Matter movement.
Be sure to follow us on Medium for this interview and more!

Gracious Calamity
Our latest CCThing is Gracious Calamity, gorgeous CC licensed folk music from Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts. They’re hometown favorites there, where our Communications Manager met them this month.
When asked why the band licenses under Creative Commons, they told her, “It just seemed like the right thing to do!”
Listen at Bandcamp.
This week’s thing is a photo from Mikel on Flickr of Valle de la Luna in La Paz, Bolivia to celebrate CC Bolivia. Our affiliates network is an important part of the Creative Commons community. Learn more here.
Our friends over at Wikimedia Commons are picking their picture of the year for 2015 - go vote!
Open source, 3d printable violins, powered by The Hovas
Hovalin by The Hovas // CC BY-NC-SA 4.0
Got a 3D printer? Ever wanted to learn the violin but don’t have a violin? Well here’s your chance!
Chemical structure of Ribose and Deoxyribose by Genetics Education // CC BY 2.0
A tweet brought this Flickr account to our attention. What a great resource if you find yourself teaching or presenting on genetics!
wocintech stock - 149 by WOCinTech Chat // CC BY 2.0
One of the best CC Things of the Week from the last year was easily the stock photos from Women of Color in Tech Chat. We wished there were more and our wish was granted: they added so many more photos! Go check them out already!
Woman Applying Makeup on Subway by WNYC New York Public Radio // CC BY-NC 2.0
These stock images are nearly too real for anyone who commutes on the subway in any big city. Surely the folks over at WNYC had a lot of fun with this photoshoot, check out their whole album!
Copyright and CC Licenses by Curiosity Films // CC BY 3.0
We love how informed and enthusiastic these kids (and their teacher) are about copyright and CC licenses. Thanks for spreading the word!
colouring book by vegenaut // CC BY 4.0
Adult coloring books are on the tables & shelves of nearly every book store these days. Here’s a great free & open source version for you to enjoy, share, and remix -- and not just for adults!
Digital Sundial by Mojoptix // CC BY 3.0
This week’s thing was first noticed by our CEO, Ryan Merkley, and we can’t argue with him: this digital sundial is one of the coolest 3D printed things around.
A Kiss, Deferred by Moth Collective // CC BY-NC-ND 3.0
This contribution to the New York Times’ Modern Love column, based on a true story written by Nikolina Kulidžan, is simply lovely. I hope we hear happy endings to stories like this more often.
Coffee Art by Matej Novak // CC BY-NC-ND 2.0
Reflective photography and one of the best beverages on earth, together at last.
David Bowie Blackstar artwork by Barnbrook // CC BY-NC-SA 4.0
We would be hard pressed to find a cooler thing to be CC licensed this week. Go and get all the artwork from Bowie’s final album to reuse and remind you of our dearly departed David.
Photo by kasuend (on Unsplash) // CC0
We absolutely love this site that searches CC0 images: http://finda.photo/ by David Barker. I found this beautiful image simply by choosing to search by the color green. It’s a reminder that even you don’t see much sky when you look up, sometimes that’s not such a bad thing.
End for Sure by Populous & Eric Steuer // CC BY-NC-SA 3.0
We might be a bit biased on this one; CC’s very own Eric Steuer is featured on vocals on this track. It’s our jam this week maybe it can be yours too.
