Senior Sunrise (p1)
August 25, 2025
Today has had a shaggy beginning. Today was Senior Sunrise, where everyone in the class of 2026 had to get up at around 5:30 and get to school by 6:15 so they could go out to a cold and wet football field to watch the sun rise. The night before, Mama pressured me and said to participate for the “experience” and that it’s a good way to start the end of high school, so I decided “Why not?” and went early the next morning. I woke up at 5:30 am and lowkey forgot why I was up so early. By the time it was 6:15, I was at the football field, and I had found my friend Ella Li, who was already waiting for me. We went to get some snacks from this homemade kiosk some teachers had made (God bless them for waking up so early and doing this for all of us out of pocket). I talked with Ella for a bit, and we caught up. Ella and I have been friends since the 8th grade, so I guess we’ve been for a while. Kind of. We don’t see each other as often anymore since we kind of parted ways during the last 3 ½ years, but we still keep in touch. Everything was going ok at that point. After 15-ish minutes, Ella’s other friend Isa and his girlfriend came over to Ella and me to sit near us. I recognize them but I don’t know them very well so there’s something in me that immediately makes me shy away and not want to talk. Ella and Isa were already talking away, so it wasn’t like me shutting up would bother them very much. I got up to get another juice box from the kiosk. I also got up to see if there was anyone else I was friends with. I saw some people from band class, some people from photography, and even some people from my neighborhood. I would awkwardly wave at some and awkwardly smile at others. Made cringeworthy small talk with the rest. Good grief. So much for being a socialite. I walked up to these two girls I knew back in freshman year and mustered up the courage to try and catch up. The moment I approached them and said a friendly “Hi, guys”, one of the girls turned her back towards me and started giggling with her hand cupped over her mouth like I couldn’t see her. The other girl stretched an uncomfortable looking smile across her face and weakly waved her manicured hand. I went up to talk more but the first girl cut me off and blurted out: “We were just leaving.” They quickly scooped up the beach towel they were sitting on and walked away from me. After that trainwreck of a conversation, I quickly got my donut and sat back down where Ella and Isa were. Ella and I took some pictures, and as usual, I looked like a bag of shit that woke up at five and forgot to do his hair before leaving the house. Before leaving the football field, I took a group photo with my old friend group from freshman year. I looked around and saw how grown and somewhat mature my friends looked. Things just went by so fast. I remember when we were all just dumb little freshmen trying not to trip over our own shoes. Now we’re seniors in high school. One more step closer to adulthood.
First day of school
August 22, 2025
-It’s been one day of senior year back in my high school, and already, I’m reminded how much I desperately want to graduate. It’s only been 8 ½ hours and I already hate this fucking place. I have no friends in ANY of my classes, and I don’t have lunch with any of my friends either. What the HELL?! I wasn’t expecting to see my friends ALL THE TIME during the school year, but Jesus Christ! In US Gov, I know 1 person I’m cool with: this girl named Kendall, and she’s cool but we aren’t that tight, you know? I have lunch at like 11:00 in the morning which means for 4 ½ hours straight I can’t eat anything after lunch. FUCK that, bro.
I had algebra after history, which pretty much speaks for itself. We did a diagnostic test and to be honest, I just stared at the math questions for 30 minutes and circled in random answers. I just couldn't be bothered. Next was Spanish 3. Not only did I not know anyone in that class, it was filled to the brim with underclassmen, especially freshmen. Lord have mercy. This is also a class where we can’t speak English and only Spanish. That’s fine. With some practice, I can do that with no problem.
Our teacher, Sr. Traynham was this short, old fashioned cat who wore a flat cap and was practically covered in pink attire. He tried talking to everyone in Spanish for like 30 minutes and eventually gave up after the clueless freshmen just didn’t seem to get it. Guess I was the only one practicing my Spanish this year. By the time Sr. Traynham finished introducing himself, he started SINGING this song called “Take Your Time” by this old 80’s group in front of EVERYONE. I looked around at my classmates and everyone (including me) was either snickering or hiding in their shirt in embarrassment.
Finally, I had my last class of the day: AP English Literature. This class is new for me since I’ve never taken an AP class before. Our teacher, Ms Bridges, seemed nice enough but due to the alarming amount of Taylor Swift posters in her class room, it was easy to say that she had a favorite artist. I tried talking to some of my classmates in this class but it’s so awkward. It’s like trying to talk to a teenaged scarecrow with a permanently disgusted look on its face. It felt like they could smell if someone near them had less than a 4.0 GPA. Most of these kids have already been in AP Lang with Ms Bridges so I was kind of left out of the many inside jokes that were said.
Right now, I’m in bed, forever thankful that today was a Friday and that I had a whole weekend before I have to go back to this good ol’ Briar Woods High School. This is gonna be a “great year”. Good grief.

CLIMATE CHANGE
in a simple definition, climate change, refers to long-term shifts and temperature and weather patterns, and those long-term shifts are too hard for our solar system to handle which can harm our atmosphere.
Ways climate change hurts our biodiversity are by altering natural habitats disrupting natural cycles due to extreme heat or extreme cold and increasing the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events like hurricanes or tornadoes. To fix this we should try adopting renewable energy sources and trying to stay away from fossil fuels and find a better healthier substitute. This could not only help our biodiversity. It would also help our atmosphere makes summers, more bearable and less hot and winters less frigid with more snow.
HABITAT LOSS
Habitat loss is the reduction or elimination of the natural living space for any species primarily caused by human activities like deforestation, urbanization and agriculture
I’m more detailed explanation of habitat loss is when natural wildlife areas are converted into human dominated landscapes making them unsuitable for the native species that first live there. This can happen in a handful of ways:
1. Habitat destruction, which is the outright conversion of a natural habitat and if something else like farmland or industrial areas
2. Habit attack fragmentation, which involves breaking up a large habitat into something smaller with isolated patches often by roads or powerlines.
3. Finally, habitat degration this refers to the deterioration of habitat quality, making it more and more unsuitable for supporting life. This can be caused by soil, erosion pollution, or even the introduction of invasive species.
Some ideal ways that way humans can help fix habitat loss is by reducing waste planning native species to its land, supporting local conversion efforts and advocating for sustainable practices. You could also try using nontoxic nature base products for garden care, and lawn care.
POLLUTION: what it is and how it affects our biodiversity.
A few ways that air pollution negatively impacts by diversity is all the different pollutants like nitrogen oxide, ammonia, sulfur dioxide, and ozone that pollute the air disrupting the balance of healthy air, ruining the air quality. Here are some ways that we can do as humans to stop or least heal some the damage that air pollution has done to our ecosystem and our planet:
1. decreasing your use of emissions from vehicles, such as your car and opt for biking carpooling or walking for shorter trips.
2. promote energy conservation. Try to turn off your lights and electronics when they’re not used.
3. Try to recycle and reuse more. Reduce waste and conserve resources by recycling and reusing materials as much as possible. You could also try replanting trees so that they can help restore the air quality.
