So our worries about bleeding were just worries, the flags dried fine.

Painting and quickly drafting which flag colour pairings we want to have- we started painting a flag straight, but found it was taking a while and seemingly having a lower coverage rate than expected. Decided to dip dye the flags instead, making things quicker, but also giving them a tie dye effect.

Painting the flags-

The paint ended up being thicker than we expected and was making things

A) taking longer to paint, and B) using up more paint.

In the end, we decided to water the paint down more, and then dip dye the remaining flags (which gave them some extra texture which was interesting)- which made things super quick. There was some concern that the flags would bleed if there was rain at the festival, but the forecast looked good and the more industrial type paint was holding up better than our previous acrylic tests.

As a backup I do have these bamboos that my neighbour has- they’re around 4m tall but they’re really skinny, like thinner than the ones in class.

We’ll use Ant’s ones, but we do have this as a backup.

Working out how much paint we’ll need.

Net area- used 0.66 to account for holes and the flag not extending out to the full two meter width all the way down. 

Couldn’t find a proper coverage rate number for the paint, and after asking around, other groups also didn’t seem to know. 

Also- checklist of stuff to do before next class.

Taking the flags out wider based on a chat in class with Ant- they’re just a squidge too skinny with the current dimensions.

Cutting based off the templates- painting the CubaDupa colours, taping together, and taking it up to full height.
