You ever think I've abandoned this blog? Never... Tho I'm thinking of making some pins primarily because I've lost my main Blobby pin And now that it's summer, I have really got to wear that more often
I understand how long I have taken finding clips for this. The best way I have found to get clips is to download the episode directly.
one problem I can only have so many episodes downloaded at one time on the phone. THO! I have an extra USB I may dedicate to episodes which should cover that problem. I have been slowly collecting funny moments and once I collect more than 3 minutes I will put that together and post it for all to see :) 👁️👁️
As my mental health spirals. I have been handling it by binge watching Noel's house party. So here is my full ramble on it I Hope you enjoy!

Noel's house party
Noel's house party is a live variety show that was aired live BBC one from 1991 to 1999 hosted by Noel Edmonds at the time around 43 years old.
The show had multiple segments which encouraged audience participation through phone calls.
The show mainly focused on British celebrities mainly associated with the BBC at the time basically if you were in the UK and you were famous, you were not safe at this time lol.
In each episode there are regular segments that do change depending on the season but here are some of my favorites not all will be covered if you want that thear is the Wikipedia
THE GUNGE TANK
Now for those unaware gunge is a UK term for basically GOOP / SLIME horrible viscous nightmare.
The victims of this segment varied from celebrities to unliked members of the public , they would have 2 people to be the potential victim and the audience would vote over phone who would get gunged at the end of the episode. Makes me wonder how terrifying it would be to sit there for all 50 minutes. Just hoping that you were the one that didn't get chosen.
What the fuck Even is this stuff

Taking shots of gunge to feel something -me
This concoction is also used in multiple other segments as well. I hate when they don't color it though PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD COLOR THE GUNGE OR IT'S WRONG AND LOOKS DUBIOUS AT BEST.
you guys know that Nickelodeon theory about the slime being green so they can Green screen it white , well Noel's house party just straight up Said ""heres some viscous clear-ish liquid ALL OVER THE AUDIENCE"" truly, horrifying
It stayed like this for the first few seasons but then later got adapted into the trip around the great house segment the person would be put on a miniature railway that takes them around the the manor eventually sealing their fate
Sometimes near the end of seasons if fans were lucky we got to see Noel get gunged

They also changed it up a little more by season 6 and 7. But I'm not talking about season 6 and 7 because I don't feel like it!! Basically they stopped using it as much which makes sense but come on!!!
NTV
In this segment your family would contact the BBC to hopefully or unfortunately have noel bring the party to you!! Often with varying reactions
This was done by the BBC setting up camera in the liveingroom as noel communicates through the television. Family and friends of the person who was set up were encouraged to send in general information about person who would be on NTV or even send their personal possessions to noel for him to randomly show.
This was done live which was quite sophisticated for the time but also was a very big risk because the people on NTV were truly random and there was always a very big worry on the sort of things they could say on air. I Full-Heartedly believe that if a segment such as this existed in modern day someone would call noel slurs.
Producer Michael Leggo Sade in a 1991 BBC interview
“It was revolutionary, but such a nerve-wracking moment for me as the producer and also director. I couldn’t really relax until we’d done the reveal of the victim on NTV as you just didn’t know what this person would be like. They might say rude words or not be as fun as we’d been led to be believe. I was always nervous, but if it went well I could enjoy the show from there on!”
Number Cruncher
The number cruncher is pretty self-explanatory. somewhere There is a phone box to get into it. You need a code that they will show live on TV. You're then meant to run to said phone box in time to be the contestant.
You're shown a Multi-Digit code which They would then scramble , you wold have 45 seconds to not only find the new code as well getting paid more the more guesses you make. If he managed to fail this you would then be covered in gunge which yeah it's Noel's house party. What else did you expect. There's also a way that you can double your money but not many people get this far.
My upset with this game is most didn't know what they were doing and would go way too slow or not understand how You're just needing to rearrange the numbers. There's a clip that angers me of these two unfortunate individuals typing in the number nine continuously which does nothing to help them. Even Noel comments on the fact that that is only the first number
Wait Till I Get You Home
Noel wold in a pre recorded segment will ask a kid an array of different questions , then invite the parents to guess through a multiple choice game what they think their child answered with. If they answered correctly they would get a prize.
Later the kid would be invited onto stage after the parents have reacted to answers that they probably didn't prefer to be on TV , Noel then gives the kid a prize they want. Later changing the format a little bit by also having them choose an envelope which could be outcomes like "" Wash the dishes for a week"" "" be kind to your sister"" "" get ice cream with your dad"" the kid chooses the envelope by random but they always got a prize at the end which I think is nice
Gotcha!!!
Yes yes I will get to Blobby be patient there's more to this than just that
Gotcha which was originally called the Gotcha Oscars which was renamed due to legal action is a pretty broad segment because there is usually a different prank, but it's based around messing with British celebrities by setting up some sort of silly situation and then it ending with a GOTCHA!!! They would then be given a little reward for participating
There is one account of a celebrity noticing the cameras and figuring out what was going on making the whole thing backfire but I will leave that to a surprise on when and how and what the consequences are because I do recommend people watch this show
Personally, I love this segment because how creative they got. I couldn't even begin to explain how many wacky situations were set up and the hoops they probably had to go through in order to set these things up very entertaining
THE BLOB aka MR BLOBBY
Oh God... The time you've all been waiting for.
Mr Blobby was introduced in season 2 during the gotcha segment played by Barry Killerby.
The whole bit is that blobby is meant to be a kids entertainment icon and the unsuspecting celebrity believes this and in return has to deal with this horrific creature. Blobby became a fan, favorite and reoccurring character tho stopped being used for gotchas because he became too popular for the prank to work
Blobby is characteristically a chaotic goofball who will run into most things around him which like same! Blobby is also semi verbal? Primarily speaking through its own name with some words mixed in ""BLOBBY BLOBBY YHA!!"
People at first really liked Blobby in fact, you would be surprised and or expecting that children also liked Mr. Blobby AND OH HOW THE CAPITALISM RAINED there is so much Blobby merch all of it looking uncanny and horrible which I believe adds to it.
Multiple songs were made which reached top charts in the UK now regarded as horrible
Though sadly people then grew up and realized how uncomfortable it is to even look at this thing. Yes, I'm using thing as a pronoun for it
If you can't tell, I have a mixed bag of feelings involving the blob , as a young child we were exposed to Noel's house party threw top 10 videos leading us and our brother to watching old recordings which is why I care so much.
I remember liking Blobby as a kid almost finding it comforting. I'm mentally ill also take that with a grain of salt My overall opinion and current day is that it is both the worst thing I've ever seen and also something I look on fondly

The horrific amounts of merchandise with absolutely no quality assurance is the exact reason why I want to collect it
Here is a poorly put together collage of some of the merch as you can see... Often the plushies look like they're either repenting for their sins and begging for nothing more than to leave this world or they look stoned out of their marbles

I'm a big fan of the teapot it's giving "" honey the guests are coming over. Bring out the fine China" I like to wonder how many blobbys are rotting in British landfills
Also, I would like to enlighten you with the fact that there was a Noel's house party themed board game and if it wasn't for shipping prices I would buy a copy and then force all of my loved ones and unloved ones to play it
BLOBBY LAND / Crinkley Bottom
I didn't touch on this in the above text primarily because I want to do more research to accurately portray the town of crunkly bottom because there is so many different things that end up happening throughout the series. But it also is the name of the attractions which is Defunct
I'm using the term attractions. A lot of people say theme park and I may use that term too, but it's more better described as Blobby themed tumors in pre-existing theme parks
And there are people out there who can do way more comprehensive research than I've done here. So I recommend doing a personal deep dive because there is a lot to cover
Built throughout the 1990s. (1994 - 1997) a reimagining of what the village of crinkly bottom would be like... But theme Park?? Kind of?
There was multiple of these in
Cricket St Thomas in Somerset , Morecambe, Lancashire , and a Attraction at Lowestoft, Suffolk
After a large parade also known as the Morecambe illuminations took place , with Noel and Blobby present It was decided by the Lancashire city council that building a blobby-themed attraction could bring people to the town
In Cricket St Thomas wildlife Park the Blobby themed area was mainly focusing on a house called Dunblobbin which was ment to be Bobby's house.
Noel lived relatively close to the attraction and would often visit in person to interact with people, which wasn't appreciated by the council thinking that it was taking away the spotlight of what they had created,
Then another attraction named Noel Edmonds world of crinkly bottom opened with support of multiple sponsors. There was plans for it to be quite Grand but they didn't receive quite enough funding to make that true. But here is an early concept design for what they imagined it could have looked like
There was some pretty crazy ideas being thrown around , my favorite was the idea of a river of gunge!!! Sadly this never panned out
The park in Morecambe closed only 13 weeks Into operation which was a clear sign that this was not a viable business strategy. This was done through a vote by the city council with an overwhelming agreeance on this not bringing in the amount of people they wanted as well as the plans themselves. Not going as they wish they went. They blamed Noel Edmonds group (The unique group) for not advertising it well and then we're complaining that he didn't visit enough (which they in the past complained about the opposite)
This cause a plethora of legal issues which brought the city council and unique group to court. People in the town were also unhappy that a free park a was converted into a Blobby attraction , there were protests and petitions to close it down. Nole won the defamation court case involving them blaming him for the failure and then brought them to court. It's a MESS to research It all boils down to PEOPLE DIDN'T WANT BLOBBY LAND
Noel did win both court cases but also received significant amounts of backlash and public scrutiny. Now taking a look at all of this. The city council was clearly in the wrong not only choosing poor locations for the attractions but also changing the plans multiple times creating immense amounts of stress on unique who truly were just trying to put something together
Later when noel stopped funding the park everything still remained only later would they remove mentions of blobby and once the whole place was left abandoned Urban exploring became popular in that location , to put a stop on Urban exploring they demolished the space
I find it depressing that none of this worked out because you can clearly tell that. Noel looked happy and I care about the happiness of that man, of course, once the show was canceled by the BBC we never got to see what he truly imagined crunkly bottom would look like and I don't think we ever will, but it's fun to look back on.
Closing thoughts
Noels house party was a groundbreaking broadcast in the UK and I attribute it to a lot of my introduction to British media. It brought many creative ideas to fruition and as much as some look down on its existence due to the blob it was all fun and truly shows that maybe sometimes all we can find connection through oddways even if that odd way is Noel Edmonds sending someone to the gunge.
One of the more interesting things about Noel's house party was how popular it was in the UK, but how unknown it is around the world. I'm Canadian and I've only met a handful of other Canadians in real life. Who knew what I was talking about compared to other BBC media that's more known over here such as Doctor who.
Noel clearly enjoyed what he was doing and brought joy into the lives of many
For us this is a beloved piece of media and I want people to also experience the same amount of Joy. I've experienced watching it
when the show was airing I wasn't even alive and I'm thankful for those who archive the old episodes
We plan on making way more posts. Perhaps I will go in depth about the set and how often it broke
(if anyone has a reliable way of watching episodes in order please reach out to me. I would love to create more posts where I can go in detail about the residents of crinkly bottom and continue making my gifs)
